Reviving the shit out of this thread;

finally, slowly getting into cooking my own way. Don't plan on being awesome like Apple Arcade, but after mastering the slow cooker (and getting bored of it), started getting pulled more and more into Indian food (finding a cheap local spice shop helped.) Plan on learning the basics for Thai and Mexican as well (I know, no relation, I just love curries and burritos, though not together.) I was always really intimidated by cooking, but this thread encourage me to embrace the long cooking times and learn lots of new techniques. My god, I wish I'd taken a home ec class as a kid (they don't even offer classes like that anymore.)

Maybe he will come back if we revive his thread. He still lurks, but he still hasn't posted ever since he said we were all mean for getting onto him about creating excess threads.

He's Casper<3.

After all that "don't worry, I'm not coming back" nonsense, he never actually went away.

@ the OP:

The dishes look delicious, but I think they would be even more appetizing if you used some ambient lighting (even a lamp will do) instead of the flash. Tricky to do but I've done my share of food photographs the last year or so.

The guy from the land down under where barbeques are holy grails of cooking approves very much!

Also, excess threads? The only excess thread I can think of that got shit was the stupid Ketsui review. As one who prefers to keep serious business in Development and a jolly troll attitude everywhere else, I hope Casper<3/Apple Arcade may feel inclined to do the same for this thread and not have to worry about trolling/forum bullshit. Oh well.

Not true. I went away for about 2 months. Originally I was only coming back to use the trading section of this site but I like shmups too much and just reading the threads I always wanted to add my two cents, and just said eff it.

I don't think I ever said "don't worry, I'm not coming back" I believe my exact words were "I'm done". Mostly because I posted a review which was what I thought a clear joke but half of the people reading it took it serious.

Either way, I have a new camera now which can take much clearer pictures than all the cell phone pics in this thread and since it's back, I'll start adding too it again. Heres a few more cell phone pics though.

Awesome! Please keep posting pictures of great food. I'm cooking pork vindaloo and red lentils tarka tonight, but there's no point in me taking pictures because it will just look like mush.

Edit: Eating my vindaloo + lentil tarka + rice combo now. Absolutely delicious. Why did I wait until nearly 40 to start messing around with cooking?

Some food that I cooked recently. It actually doesn't taste all that bland.

Image
Brussel sprouts with onions and mushrooms. I kind of fucked up the sprouts by not cutting of the ends properly.

Image
A quick and easy (vegan) lunch sandwich!
Toasted wheat french bread topped with pesto, covered in squash, zucchini, onion, & vegan mozzarella cheese.

Sandwich looks good. Pesto isn't vegan though.

...and don't worry, brussel sprouts are tricky to work with. Love mushrooms though. I put them in everything!

I should have mentioned that it can possibly be made vegan, if I made some of my own pesto, but I didn't have the supplies. Going to make some spanish rice tonight. We'll see how it turns out.

Having a lot more fun cooking lately, except I haven't been drunk cooking.
I miss having the freedom to blast records really loud at night and cook random shit, but having cookware is a plus. :|

The stuff looks very good indeed! Do you work at a restaurant at all?
Nope. I'd like to though.
Careful now.. I cook for a living, it's not what people expect at all.
This is super true. One of my ex's use to work for Charlie Trotter (and is all over the Charlie Trotter Desserts cookbook) and at Spago here in Chicago. She was one of the most lauded pastry chefs in the city and probably did better than most with her salary. She worked - on average - 16 hour days, buying food in the mornings, and prepping, then cooking till late hours.

She burned out after five years - and this is a former track runner, not some low energy sloth. It's brutal work. She ended up going back to school and now works at Kraft as a food chemist making something like 6 times the money and working less than half as much.

prosciutto wrapped asparagus covered in melted mozzarella & feta cheese, along with butter shrimp & some sliced Bulgogi (korean BBQ'd Beef)

A little Korean cooking... Kongchi kimchi jjigae.

Tastes way better than it looks...

And a crappy picture of homemade Myulchi bokkeum (stir fried anchovies with oil, brown sugar, red pepper paste, and other ingredients. Nice with rice.). Again, craptastic picture.

Well, my contributions for this thread are way more simple and humble than what has been posted before, but here I go:

This is simple stir-fried veggies (water chestnuts, carrots, peppers, celery, sugar snap peas and yellow squash) with steam-cooked noodles and chicken, seasoned with curry powder and salt. It looks dry in the pic, but it's easily fixed with some chicken broth.

Image

Simple salad made with diced tomatoes and shaved carrots on top of green leaf lettuce. It's waiting for a mixture of sesame and ginger dressing. Low in calories, too.

Image

And since I found an ice-cream maker at Goodwill, I put it to good use to make lemon-lime sherbet, using a mixture of instant lemonade and real lime juice and pulp.

Don't hold grudges. GET EVEN.
