What's the best arcade cab out there?

I've been looking into these things lately and see that it's not as expensive as I once thought to pick one of these up. Now, here comes the kicker, what's the best type of cab with a decent price. I know about candy cabs and Capcom Impress cabs and the list goes on and on. What's the best cab that you can buy for JAMMA PCB that has a six button layout that's well priced.

P.S. I'm thinking about going to an arcade distributor here in town to see what they've got. What's a decent price for cabs (so I don't get ripped off)?

I have a couple of Astro cities for sale if your interested.

I like the Astro myself, just because its quiet and the monitor is excellent. The Control panels, buttons and joysticks are interchangable from cab to cab so thats something you can modify later.

My impress is much louder and alot of people have problems with the monitors. Mine has a CPS2 kick harness built in and 6 button each way CP.

I've never seen the other cabs that are going around.

If I needed one, I'd get one of those- they look great.

As far as local cabs go, I thing if you can get a cab in any shape that has a good 25" or bigger monitor for 300$, you should get it. Anything less than that would be a steal. Don't pay more that 500$.
If you can get a good 19" monitor cab for less than 150$, also a steal. Don't pay more than 200$.

Does anyone have the website/address of that place in california that used to sell tons of japanese cabs? I think it was called Arcadeinfinity, but I can't remember. That website (arcadeinfinity.com) doesn't work.

Astro City cabs are sweet. I also like the looks of certain Sega "MegaLo" cabs, but I've never played on one of those.

I'd like to get an Sega Astro City or Taito Egret 2 cab. I'll make do with the couple of Aero City's that I have in the meantime though.

It used to be http://www.arcade-infinity.com but looks like they forgot to renew the address, or they just shut it down as it was nothing but people complaining about how bad those cabs were (pretty funny if you ask me). Pixelcorps had a bad dealing with them if you want a reference

. Anyway, its not worth it, unless you live in LA and can personally inspect the machine before buying it (and then take it there on the spot with cash).

Thanks for the help. I called around town to see what I could find, and most places are dried up or had no idea what I was talking about. We actually have quite a few arcade distributors around town, but finding a JAMMA/PCB cab seemed hard. I need to just go out there and check the stores out to see what they have. It's always the things you need that are difficult.

How difficult is it to rotate the monitor in a New Astro City cab?

Is it worth paying more for an Taito Egret 2 for the extra ease of rotation?

you + a friend, 5 minutes, monitor rotated.

you by yourself?.. i don't suggest even trying... but it could be done.

unplug monitor wire, tip the cab on its back, take off the bolts, two people to lift up and rotate, bolts on, cab up. monitor wire back on. done.

I'd rather buy two Astro Citys for the current price of one Egret2. Set one up for vertical and one up for horizontal. Problem solved.

Honestly it only takes me about 15 minutes to rotate the monitor on an Astro, but I've got it down to a science now that I've done it so many times. If this is the only cab you will ever buy, the Egret 2 is probably worth it, not dropping the monitor or ripping some wires out in a bad rotate attempt.

If I had the space, I would definately get two Astros. I really like they way the Astros look. But I live in a two-bedroom Manhattan apartment, and my wife is being very understanding of my new hobby as is allowing even one arcade cabinet into the living room. The "one cab" rule is fairly sacrosanct.

My real concerns are ease of use (both the monitor rotation as well any other cab maitainance issues). Are there any other easy to use monitors? Are there any downsides to the Egret 2 that I might not be aware of? Are there any other cabs that I should be on the lookout for (surely some other cabs have an easy rotation feature)?

I am also half tempted to get the cheaper Astro and keep it in only one rotation, to "get my feet wet" in PCBs and cabinets and keep any mistakes I make on the cheaper side. If it turns out that I do not like PCB gaming, I am sure I can sell it for a only modest loss.

Any other thoughts or experiences would be greatly appreciated.

on a side note, you should have made the nj/nyc shmupmeet at my place, where you would have seen 2 astros side by side =]

i'll be having another shortly at my place, and you should definately come by. my astros may be for sale in the near future provided some new cabs fall into my hands sooner than later.

Oh, if you are in a small apartment, and want ease of use, then the Egret 2 is worth it. You'd need a lot of room to take apart an Astro to rotate the monitor. Both types of cabs are solid investments, and should hold their value. So the only worry you should have is if you get hooked and start wanting more cabs/pcbs.

Yes, the first one takes about ooh.. 5 seconds? Second takes about 2 minutes. How I hate JP cabs

Nasty, nasty, crappy things. Gut them for the screens to fit into REAL CABS. Yess.... Soon..

EDIT: Although it's a shame about the sticks in that first cab - I can't fit STCs to it
