I asked this before...didn't really get any answers I was satisfied with.
Maybe more know now?
Anyway, as you know, PS3 won't force itself into 16:9 on a 16:10 monitor. Any in-betweens that will work? No lag or anything like that. Just something to keep the correct aspect ratio?
Any in-between to play PS3 16:9 on a 16:10 monitor?

Consider the monitor itself, too. I read of some claims that the Planar PX2611W won't work right in 1920x1080 mode (it's a 1920x1200 monitor), but that might be firmware revision dependent. I don't remember what I found when I tried it out. Other 16:9 resolutions might work fine if you select the "Aspect" setting in "Expansion Mode." I'm sure this won't be helpful for the case of your individual monitor but the story is out there - monitors that natively feature these features do exist! Not sure if there is a lag cost, though any game with a funky PC resolution (old DOS resolutions, old PC Windows game resolutions) don't seem to be slower; they just have very slightly blurred edges at some pixel boundaries.

My monitor won't change the aspect ratio, on it's own. I can only change to 4:3.
It's really frustrating too, because I have a lagless 16:10, but I have to play PS3 on my 16:9 "stuck in molasses" LCD. God, the lag on that thing is horrible.

Write to the PSN forums. They might have a look at writing some firmware upgrade for your needs.
This industry has become 2 dimensional as it transcended into a 3D world.
