Yamamoto-san was on OBS TV today. There was a feature with ex-Toaplan staff discussing their catalogue of games. Plus a reveal of Shooting Gameside Vol. 4 art proofs. I took a screenshot and recorded it today if anyone wants me to upload it somewhere?

Vol. 4 is released February 3rd. I think the UStream videos are still live to re-run on demand. If not I will splice together the footage I recorded and upload it somewhere.

I got some of the Zuntata vs Sega game music night too, but it went on for around four hours so I couldn't record all of it.

Any progress with the possible PDF English releases of these?

I got this yesterday and it's one of the best of these nostalgia gaming books I've seen (because it's Toaplan!)

Witness:

- 46 pages of Toaplan crap
- a detailed history of the company
- profiles for each STG with handsome full-color screenshots and original poster art
- articles on various Toaplan-related musings, like the different bombs, items, humor, and that ugly mascot that looks like a spleen
- interviews with some old guys

If you can read Japanese check it out, but even if you can't it's pretty neat.

yeah - seems like with each issue they're becoming less and less popular. I think I sold about 25 of the first issue, and maybe 3 of the last (#0). I can kinda understand why, but this issue really is good - lots of nice color pictures! I may try to do a translation of the Astro Port interview from this new issue.

I'd love to buy them, but the language barrier is too much for me. :(

Please do, I'd love to read something about my favourite doujin guys.

The language barrier is what has kept me from purchasing any of these. Really hard to justify the cost when all I would do is go through 'em once looking at the pictures, then shelf them forever.
No matter how good a game is, somebody will always hate it. No matter how bad a game is, somebody will always love it.

Ditto. I'd pay money for them in English.

Picked up the latest issue, pretty nice.

Haven't got around to the Toaplan interview yet, but the "Learning English through shmups" article nearly knocked me off my chair lol. Plus almost all their translations of famous shooter phrases are totally off. :o

How are the interviews? Uemura seems to be an easy guy to get ahold of. To date, this is the best ex-Toaplan interview I've read. I thought it was awesome. Anything of that calibur? I might pick this up for shits & giggles.

where did you guys pick this up? I've gotten past issues from Friends in Akiba but I'm just wondering if they sell this some place closer for me like say in Shinjuku.

I would imagine Kinokuniya in Shinjuku would have it.. isn't that place like 12 stories tall?
