Dodonpachi Saidaioujou
Re: Dodonpachi Saidaioujou
just thinking lately about how many video game companies are losing money and/or going under, makes me very happy to see a new game from Cave.
Re: Dodonpachi Saidaioujou
Their aren't really too many arcade shmups these days anyway (are their other genres which use tate?). Modern fighting games etc are mostly hd for example.alastair jack wrote:Do they have any cabinets with high resolution vertical screens in arcades? Finally, a clear view of Expert Mode (thanks to that amazing player tackling everything like a bawss), and it looks fucking delicious. I'd take this over Futari any day.

Music sounds totally arse, but the actual gameplay is growing on me.
Actually looks like CAVE cut all the bullshit out and actually made a game where the bullet dodge is all.
Also did anyone else see on one of those videos, there was a 3 button control system with no seperate hyper button!

Re: Dodonpachi Saidaioujou
I played it this afternoon after a thrilling hour-and-a-half-long wait. After watching people play it for that long I was kind of sick of looking at it, but whatever.
It's hard. Auto-bomb be damned, I got chewed up. I chose the A-L but couldn't manage the slightly bigger hit box and less-than-helpful hyper. It does afford you momentary invincibility when you trigger it, but then you're just living on borrowed time. I made it to the 3rd stage mid-boss, but that's about what I would expect of the location test version, they're always harder. I hope they keep the difficulty as it is.
I don't know what else I can add that you can't judge for yourself from watching the videos. This looks like it will be another frustrating one that will be hard right off the bat to get good chains in, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. I like it a bit more after playing it, but we'll see what they change by the time it gets released (and after someone finds a bug or counterstop and version 1.5 comes out a month after that).

I was about to quote some of the more retarded posts over the last few pages to roll my eyes at but I think I'd reach the quote limit. It's about time this forum had a mandatory IQ test and age restriction or something. I remember the good old days when people knew what they were talking about, now every chump with an iPhone thinks they're an authority. I sincerely hope nobody from Cave ever stumbles across this forum.

While I'm a bit bothered by the fanservice, it's nothing for me to flip my shit over.
I also don't really subscribe to the "grittier and darker = better" mentality. I used to be like that back when I was bitching about a series that shall not be named, how more games need ships, but these days I've come to terms with that sort of thing.
There are visuals on both sides of the spectrum that look great--Garegga and R-Type on one end, Crimzon Clover and Futari (especially the final stage) on the other.
What matters ultimately is how the gameplay is, something I can't judge for myself until I start seeing superplays and playing for myself.

It does seem like Cave going back to basics, but maybe that's what they need at this point. If this comes out for 360 I'll definitely pick it up.

Re: Dodonpachi Saidaioujou
Yea, but a man can dream. I remember the Akai Katana loke test being pretty mean (those red lasers didn't chip away at your health bar, they were instant death) and I couldn't clear the three stages, but when the final version came out I beat it right off the bat. It seems like with SDOJ that they're going for short and sweet, so a harder difficulty throughout would suit it.
I should also mention how the chaining felt more about maximizing your chain and not about maintaining it, even more so than DFK. I didn't watch the meter and I didn't try to connect anything because I was going for pure survival and still it never broke! Even bombing didn't break it.
The highest rank I saw anyone get to was 8. If Icarus is right and it could potentially get to 99, then a high scoring run with the expert ship at that high of a rank could be good watching.

You appear to be confusing people who have a different opinion to your own with trolls, and being damn insulting at the same time. That's all that's on offer here, differing opinions and viewpoints based on what people have seen or played and what they would prefer to see / play.

Re: Dodonpachi Saidaioujou
That would be a shame. NTSC-J's post is encouraging, and the Egret II video actually looks good n' fucking tough, which is all I wanted the game to be.GaijinPunch wrote:They won't -- I said the exact same thing at the DFK loke test and look at that disaster.I hope they keep the difficulty as it is.
Not being able to discern any fiddly scoring mechs at the moment is also quite nice. Like Illyrian said, it looks pretty straightforward. It'll be good to get a Pachi which goes back to simple chaining etc.
One thing I haven't seen are any bee icons being collected/uncovered

Yea I love how huge they are. I zapped my laser all over the place looking to uncover some, but I could only find a half dozen or so per stage. They seem like they'd be hard to miss...

I'm picturing a desk hologram thing, like the Ketsui ball but with a hologram trophy instead, that works like Sega Time Traveler. If it happens I want cookies (Pecan Sandies et al.).

Apologies for the rant, however. I think I got out of bed the wrong side this morning and was a bit sick of trawling for the good stuff. I can't be the only one sick of the negativity and unfounded speculation in every Cave thread though. Can't we trust that Cave know what they are doing and just wait to play the damn thing. It's only a loke test.

Has anyone posted some HD video footage of the DDP-SDOJ loke test PCB's start up screen / attract screen / demo stage runs yet?
It'd be a first for the Pachi series if Cave were to utilize a cool attract screen for their production DDP-SDOJ version 1.0 PCB.

If you have played the game and have some thoughts, great. If you have not, no need to keep shitting on CAVE because they're not doing exactly what YOU want. Just chill out. Play the game if you can. If you do not like it, do not continue playing it. If you do like, then by all means continue playing.

Can't we all just get along? Group eHug, people.
Re: Dodonpachi Saidaioujou
They have done a PC-based game, and it tanked horribly (DeathSmiles 2). They switched back to SH-3 for Akai Katana, and it looks like they're sticking with it again for SDOJ. If you need convincing of why PC-based hardware is awful, I refer you to my post here: http://daifukkat.su/2012/01/pc-arcade-analysis/Demetori wrote:Looks interesting, will check it out. Just wondering why they still develop for these systems? Do they not have enough money to license a PC-based board to produce their stuff in HD and possibly to a larger audience.
Yes, almost all new games which use PC-based hardware run on wide-screen resolutions. Cave still uses 240x320 because it's the resolution that their hardware is designed for, and, well, it works. It would take a decent amount of effort to make their hardware go to a higher resolution, and unless they get a better FPGA code developer (or, if the interview that admits that it's programmed in is truthful and it's programmed into the FPGA code, stop putting in as much intentional slowdown), it would dramatically increase the amount of slowdown. There's just not really any good reason for them to step up the resolution when this one works, and works well.alastair jack wrote:Do they have any cabinets with high resolution vertical screens in arcades?
