Have we mentioned that Ibara Kuro's selection screen has some definite dubstep beats?

Ah crap, I meant to say gabba.

Why haven't we mentioned gabba yet? (Probably because most of it is literally unlistenable, I know.)

Gabba is up there with Happy Hardcore in the "Unlistenable crap made for ravers on drugs" category.

The Ridge Racers have some great tracks that could qualify as gabba, though. Shame that the new one will have dubstep all over the place.

I actually had some guys in physics who just spent the period making an acapella dubstep track.

One of them got down the unts unts unts and the other brought the wub wub wub. It was great.

yep - well for Gabba and early Happy Hardcore (SMD 12"s etc.) deffo...

all that chicken dance 'bouncy' Happy Hardcore can get fvked though :p

this use of the term dubstep as a dancing descriptor is kinda ridic and annoying though, Im pretty sure the ketamined-to-their-gills original fans of dubstep had no formalised dance form, other than maybe head bobbing and/or collapsing flat on their face...

You know, I would have just decided "yeah I won't listen to dubstep, that shit sucks" just a few weeks ago. But I decided to be adventurous and actually found some stuff that's good, atmospheric downtempo without ear-piercing WUB WUB noises.

Burial is a really good atmospheric artist. Actually I've been listening to a lot of Burial.
And I can't take this one seriously but it's also pretty good.

Not bad, but it doesn't even sound like dubstep tbh.

Which is a good thing.

All i'm gonna say is, it is a diverse genre, unfortunately the most prominent aspect of it these days is brostep and its becoming more and more casual based. Losing its soul. At least this seperates the two types of listeners rather than merge.

I love dubstep, most of the new stuff in the past few years can't even be called dubstep, dub has no place for midrange.

Its all about the bass weight, and vibe.

What's with the popular obsession over Skrillex? He's the musical equivalent of a seizure. I guess that's what people want to hear: music they can flail their limbs to for a hilarious youtube video.

And I mean, god damn, violin covers? All they do is show that his "compositions" are barely a step above Touhou music.

Happy Hardcore is crap, but I wouldn't mix up Gabba with it.
Sure you have to sift through the Gabba tracks to find good ones, but still...

I'm definitely not a fan of most Skrillex stuff or even dubstep in general, but I do luv me sum sick electronic noise and this definitely hits the right notes:

This shit is damn popular in my city, too. to make matters worse, all who appreciate this crap tend to describe it and refer to it in the same cases as the normal people are referring to heavy metal or the like :S (ex. 'what is this, some pop shit? Turn on some hard dubstep, oh yeah!')
I've tried listening to some tracks, and even the sound of puking is waaay more pleasant than this. OK, there's music that some like and some hate, but even the shittiest pornogrindcore has some musical/lyrical value, outside of these wannabe-chiptunes. :\

I hate things that come right of nowhere and SUDDENLY their fans start popping up everywhere. Such were Death Note, Twilight, and now this abomination.

Oh yeah, modern dubstep is definitely a casualty of the American tendency to make everything as hardcore and EXTREEEEEEEME as possible.

Here's the funny thing - my two-year-old nephew listens to Skrillex because my sister has shit taste in music. By all accounts, he really likes it. There goes the "this is hardcore music for manly men" theory.

I've stayed out of this thread besides for some sideswipes, but Chrissy Murderbot's Dubstep mix from his Year of Mixtapes blog is pretty good.

http://yearofmixtapes.blogspot.com/2010 ... bstep.html

He declares dubstep over here, and the mix is over two years old. This kind of dubstep is certainly over; stuff that has a place on the dance floor and basslines that pick up the song but not into seizure territory. In addition there isn't that trite progressive house to ridiculous drop and back formula that Skrillex uses. That's what's so depressing about the stuff you hear now, it's too formulaic and not dance oriented at all! Maybe all the skilled producers predicted this and jumped ship. I'd rather listen to jungle any day.
