Any fans of the RAYHAWK games?

Post by Iron Peach »

I was on DLsite getting ring^-27 version 1.0 today and jumped to their other shooters where RAYHAWK has 43 listings, mostly games, all without demos. The screens look very colorful and interesting too. :?
Has anyone here played these, and can you give some impressions of them?

Wow! Thanks for pointing these out- you've struck gold here!
Rayhawk has got a quite prolific output over the past six years:

There's free downloads of four of their games (with pdf manuals) on that page as well as a trial version of their latest game here

Looks quite kooky that all the games use exactly the same ship or something...but we'll soon find out :D

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but those free games they posted are pretty low quality. They're not .. awful or anything, but they feel like they were slapped together in a weekend. The music is ear grating and the visuals are hard to make out. It seems the enemy formations are just popcorns randomly coming from the top of the screen.

I'm not sure these guys even had anything to do with Ring^-27. I don't see any mention of them on the site .. http://temperancelance.under.jp/ring/index.html

Yeah- these do all have the feel of proper early90s retro doujins in a (surprise surprise) Layer Section style though some are a bit more sophisticated than others.
What's that LayerRayRhythm SF all about though- is it a library to build more of these or what? I don't understand.
These are rather fun if you like retro and there's certainly enough to get your teeth into :D

The only connection is that DLsite sells both of their games.

Thanks for the extra effort mj, and I agree with you Udder. These are not the best, I'm almost sorry to have brought it up..

..but ring^-27 ver 1.0 is superb!
