What's the best way to keep my XRGB-3 from overheating?
What's the best way to keep my XRGB-3 from overheating?
I stationed it underneath the cable box because I ran out of room. I notice it gets really hot during intense gameplay sessions. I wonder if I should put cardboard under it. Would that be recommended? Is there another option?

yeah, don't put anything on top of it ?
Re: What's the best way to keep my XRGB-3 from overheating?
I think the better question is what should I put under it so the VCR won't cook it? I really did run out of space it would be a pain to move the XRGB else where. I have nothing on top of the XRGB-3 Fudoh...
I wonder if I worry too much about this, usually electronics like VCR's and DVD players are fine when stacked on top of each other. The XRGB is way more valuable than those though. Not sure I can just leave it like that.

Unless you use the VCR (or whatever's under the XRGB) at the same time as the XRGB, I wouldn't mind. Or does the VCR produce so much heat even when just in standby mode ?

I've never seen one before but if there's room inside the case you could do a little mod and stick a fan in there.

cardboard might help. after all, vcrs and so on also have these little feet so that there`s always a tiny space of air between them.

VCR - WTF?! Lol
Seriously though.... I wouldn't worry about any heat that wasn't actually causing a physical problem IMO. I can't see cardboard doing jack tbh. Best to ensure adequate spacing below and above.

The thing is there were a few times my XRGB-3 got really hot. I thought there might be risk of some physical damage but it appears to work fine outside the normal problems I always experience do to my switchers (sometimes I get a purple picture because of those things, reset and it's fine) but yeah, I have a cable box under it (FiOS... before there was a Comcast box) not sure if stand-by mode contributed heat to the XRGB. I do tend to leave the cable on while playing video games as I like to flip back and fourth. I can be so fickle when it comes to that. I suppose I can tone down on the whole watching TV while playing video games bit... especially when the machine has been running for a while. I really should quit flip-flopping between TMNT3: the Manhattan Project and FUNimation channel.
I actually thought cardboard was a good idea. The XRGB-3 stands on four rubber platforms thus creating a tiny bit of space. A really flat piece of cardboard should seal the deal. But I will try my initial idea first then see if I still get overheating problems. Sometimes my peers turn on the heat too and my room gets really hot so that could be another problem. I gotta stop letting her have her way with the thermostat.
When summer time hits I'm going to have to try that cardboard idea or the fan ideas in order to cooldown the 3. Otherwise risk using too much central air.
