Your take on ports and remakes!!
Ports, remakes, and rehashes. Sadly, they are a big part of the videogame industry. Just look at the GBA for example, tons of SNES games are on it. Nothing wrong with playing good classics on a new system, but only if the port is done right. GBA SNES ports seem a little watered down in terms of sound but the portiablity makes up for it, in my opinion. What do you think of ports and remakes?
Shmups: It's all about blowing stuff up!
So true. I'm still waiting for a $50 port of Radient Silvergun to come out, just to piss off the people who shelled out $250 for a Saturn copy. I don't how good it is or if it is the second coming of Jesus, I'm not forking over that much money!!!flux wrote:I like when they port odd or rare games, so that way it isn't impossible to find/play it.

I like it when games that used to be Japan only are ported to other systems in the US. I also liked how some Famicom games were ported to GBA becuase GBA games are easier to import than Famicom games. I also like it when features are added to games. IMO, the additions of Luigi that is different from Mario, a Yoshi coin checklist, and a point to collecting the Yoshi coins actually improve the GBA Super Mario World.

I go on a game by game basis. The Bonk, Bonanza Bros, Fantasy Zone, Space Harrier and Resident Evil remakes on modern systems have all been brilliant. As good or better than the originals. That's great. Nothing wrong with DDP DOJ or ESPgaluda ports either.
Remakes and ports that suck, I don't like.

It might get a port for a next-next-next-gen console. After all, we're getting a PS2 port of Gunstar Heroes 12 years after its initial release. Sooner or later whoever owns the rights will want to make some easy money.Zweihander wrote:it'd kick ass if Radiant Silvergun was ported to a next-gen console, but that ain't gonna happen. :/
No matter how good a game is, somebody will always hate it. No matter how bad a game is, somebody will always love it.

I have a Saturn emulator that I've tried running RSG on before. Though I don't have a high-end computer by any means (Athlon 2500+, 256MB RAM, ATI Radeon 7000 video card), it runs at a crawl, and there's no sound.sven666 wrote:a saturn emulator cant be that far off tho??

You must have used a crappy emu then. SSF is nearing 100% and runs most games flawlessly, minus the sound which is still a little off. And in a game like RSG or Street Fighter Zero 3 where the music is generated via Saturn's onboard sound (i.e. not CDDA) that makes it pretty unpleasant to listen to. Video wise though, it's run most of the stuff I've tried close to perfect (you can use legit discs).Tomtom wrote:I have a Saturn emulator that I've tried running RSG on before. It's getting updates once or twice a month though. Hopefully it'll be 100% soon and he'll add in options to raise the resolution, etc.
It's the $1500 portable Saturn for the rest of us!

I'm one of those that are cool with ports and remakes, but if you change the game to the point I can't recognize the older game anymore, then I don't feel it's a proper remake/port just an attempt to pull more money from the pockets of old school gamers without a care for what they might think.
And as for Saturn emulation, I just got into that, Cassini and UMK 3 don't quite seem to get along as the game crawls by, making parts impossible to play/ a hassle to play. And this SSF sounds pretty cool, if only I knew what it stood for I'd hunt it down myself.
Edit: Never mind I found it.
Edit 2: No SSE2, damn.
