Lol, I never got this much of a reception when I 2-ALL'ed Progear. Good job, Naut.

Re: Dodonpachi Dai-Ou-Jou ~ Black Label
Naut will be posting a video of this to Youtube when he figures out how.

Um I could record his replay and upload it to my youtube profile and say title it "Dodonpachi Dai Ou Jou Black Label 2-ALL by Naut" if he still can't figure it out. I just would need his permissionNereid wrote:Naut will be posting a video of this to Youtube when he figures out how.Acid_Rain wrote:Is there a youtube video on this?

Thanks, everybody.
"Figures out how" is just secret Canadian lingo for "youtube rejected my video after a day an a half of uploading (even though it's the exact same format as 60 of my other videos), so I'm re-uploading a different encode." Sorry it's taking so long, I'm hoping to have it up by tonight though.Nereid wrote:Naut will be posting a video of this to Youtube when he figures out how.
I had 50 hours logged into it over the course of a year where I just casually played, and in the last month and a half I put another 75 hours in.Eaglet wrote:How much time did you have to put in to achieve this?
It's not next on the agenda, but I might give it a go sometime in the future. I'm a bit tired of Daioujou right now but that could change any day. Particularly if Prometheus or Erppo beat my score sometime soon...Subterranean Sun wrote:Are you going to try and conquer White Label next?

Ok, you already have more playtime than me so nice to know I don't suck in the game.Naut wrote:I had 50 hours logged into it over the course of a year where I just casually played, and in the last month and a half I put another 75 hours in.

Re: Dodonpachi Dai-Ou-Jou ~ Black Label
Spent over 50 hours going from "got to hibachi" to "got through hibachi."

Re: Dodonpachi Dai-Ou-Jou ~ Black Label
That's not bad at all, man. I spent a lot more on Futari Ultra and never made it past Larsa.

Only 125 hours for such an achievement is a very reasonable time. Do you save state practice ? What are your previous achievements ? Where are you from ? Sorry I don't hang out around here much anymore so I've never heard about you before !
About the replay :
Well first of all what I really liked seeing here is something that I rarely see and is what makes a replay really interesting and a score very respectable : there is a combination of serious knowledge of the game (carefully planned routes through most of the parts you score in) and serious skills applied on top of them. Some games are easy and I find it boring to watch replays, even a superplay, because I cannot see skill in it, only memory. Of course DOJ is not like that, it is in fact one of the hardest shmups to perform well in, because very good knowledge of it still doesn't let you play through unharmed unless you have great skills. And you have that. MisterMonkeyMan is the guy that I've always respected for his high level danmaku skills coupled with serious study and knowledge of the game (thinking Espgaluda, and more importantly his Ketsui game. I think he is underrated by the way, he was clearly one of the very top players here). Watching you play reminds me of that feeling of seeing another great danmaku occidental player perform quite beautifully. So you have my congratulations and respect.
It's also interesting to see the way you move and play because it is very different from mine. I'm not sure where that difference stems from but it seems I move with a lot of tiny adjustments all of the time, whereas you rather make very ample moves and make longer pauses. It's like you are trying to move in the most simple and natural way, which to me looked surprisingly effective. My style is more nervous, constantly looking to adapt my position many times per second. I think I play that way because I'm a Starcraft gamer, which is a game that demands very high rates of actions per minute.

I'm pretty sure I will be trying to beat your score soon. I have gotten better since my last score, but I'll still need some work to get back in the game and learn some more so I don't waste time on a lot of full runs like I always avoid to. Not sure I'll get 2-ALL yet, will see how much time and motivation I will be able to gather.
If you are willing to fight, we may take this game to whole new levels in a nice duel.

Re: Dodonpachi Dai-Ou-Jou ~ Black Label
I have less than ten hours of savestate practice, I'll admit I was hoping to have a good run long before this (but my score wouldn't've been so high, the chains just sorta came together as I put in new credits). My previous achievements are mostly in Touhou... 1cc's, a few mediocre scores, and playing the game at 1.5x speed. I'm from Canada.PROMETHEUS wrote:Only 125 hours for such an achievement is a very reasonable time. Do you save state practice ? What are your previous achievements ? Where are you from ? Very interesting. I had recognized the skill training potential in Touhou games a few years ago, but never got into it because there seemed to be no way to bind your own keys and had to play with my hands crossed since I use left hand for movement. So I chose to keep spending time with Cave games instead. But the very well designed "spell" pattern types of Touhou have great potential ; I think there is a little something missing from Cave games to provide the same skill practice efficiency (mainly the number of very hard different patterns, only 1 TLB per game having all the top difficulty content, much higher from the rest.)
I suspect difficulty is more even in Touhou Lunatic modes, with a lot more top difficulty content, plus the possibility of playing at 1.5x speed must make Touhou lunatic an excellent practice method.
Also now I understand where this style of yours comes from. Against high speed patterns, simple well timed ample moves are the best. So you seem to have translated it into a general style.
