Cho Ren Sha -- made a bunch of early mistakes, then did really well starting with Stage 2's boss, up until the Stage 4 endurance bit. Then I died really pathetically.

X68K version because 1: the Windows version hates 64bit machines, 2: it also hates Windows 7, and 3: my virus scanner is yelling at me for one of its data files that it thinks is a malformed JPG that uses a buffer overflow issue in Windows's default image viewer.

Also, how do I get out of fullscreen in WinX68k High Speed? Alt-enter isn't doing squat. All I can do is press the Windows key and right-click close it...

Been playing Batsugun Special, still can't make it up to Jupiter most of the time. Level 4 feels incredibly long compared to 3.
Sometimes I play with Guwange, but it's still quite too hectic for a newbie like me. Most of the time I lose my first credit to the 2nd stage boss.

Also, hello there. I've been lurking around the forums for some time and thought it would be nice to finally settle in and become a real member.

Lots of Battle Bakraid and Omega Fighter SM.
Getting to Cloud most of the time in Bakraid but not much further.
Getting to stage 6 in OF always, but then I get absolutely destroyed because that stage is fucking broken.

Still working on Mushi Futari Black Label God Mode. I managed to break 1 billion pts and got toward the end of stage 4. I'm still having trouble with the second half of stage 3 (don't really have a good route at the moment) as well as the proximity to the lamps in stage 5 that'll cause them to bullet cancel.

I've been doing the exact same thing lately and those two are some of my biggest problem spots.

I am starting to figure out the lanterns though. There are two possiblities, either destory them sitting right in the middle so that the bullets all spawn around you, or far enough that the bullets get canceled just before they reach you (but still close enough to enable the cancel obviously). The first one is lot more risky since if you fail, you just die, while in the second option you can still back off and/or bomb if something goes wrong. Good way to judge the correct distance seems to be positioning yourself at the spot where the base of the lantern touches the ground when approaching it from below.

That's how I did it. You basically want your hitbox to be right below the lantern and they'll bullet cancel. It's a lot easier once you stop trying to cancel them by going to the exact center.

Still playing GundeadliGne. I used 5 heart setting to unlock all of Demonic's stages for practice purposes. I wonder how long it'll take me to figure them out. The problem isn't so much the patterns the enemies shoot, but the suicide bullets. I've always sucked at those, and the game varies between various behaviors for them depending on what enemy is destroyed. At least Stage 4 and 5 don't require much practice since those are just bosses which can be practiced in Demonic Challenge. Stage 4 practice would be for trying to figure out how to Alterbreak Alterweapon Wendy consistently.

Those first 3 stages though are the main problem for me. And it's all because of those suicide bullets.

Yuuup, still nothing.

Also, still playing Cho Ren Sha, but with a twist -- I found a 0.1 version for the x68k -- and it's harder due to having more enemies come at you, no shields, bosses are more difficult, etc. Slightly different graphics, no game over music [it just fades out the current song], and all [circular] enemy bullets are the same size.
Also, your score is in hex, like FT2 Nibbles [sadly, scores aren't saved]! :D
Pretty fun though.
I wonder how many levels it has, I kind of like it more than the final version because it's harder.

Battle Garegga.

It just arrived (thanks robotype!) - and I now understand why it sits at number one on the shmups list.

I still suck at it - but getting better.

......Pink Sweets.

I've been ignoring rank and maxing it out on the first stage (1 mil). Stage 2 turns into a shit show right after the second laser tower and I couldn't make it past there consistently. I'll call it a night. I have to wake up in 4 hours for work.

Also, discovered that Sonic Wings 2 is awesome.

Ketsui

I had a breakthrough of sorts as far as survival is concerned, and I made it to the stage 4 midboss. Holy crap stage 4 is so epic.

played the dragon blaze pcb until 3AM last night. Feels sooo nice compared to MAME, which must have had some residual input lag or something, not sure. Or I'm just deluding myself--quite possible.

I love this game, even though I still suck at psikyo. I LOVE how it turns stages 1-5, 1-6, and 1-7 into "checkpoint" shmups even when you credit feed. I played them over and over learning their intricacies, rather than having to play through the entire game again. Such a great idea. I didn't really realize how crucial the dragon shot is to survival, and now that I am getting the hang of it, I can see how addicting scoring could be in this game, too. I've been playing as Ian mainly, and its cool being so aggressive with enemies and bosses. Very very different "flow" from Cave...

Welcome Excaliborg! Galuda is a favorite of mine, have you tried the PS2 arrange mode? It's brutal!

I'm stuck on Donpachi stage-5, shouldn't take too much more practice once I figure out how to no-miss stage-4 boss.

Also trying to 1CC Galuda2 Black Label, damn close a handfull of times.

I just got mame set up so I could see what all these games were like for now... After picking up Raiden IV for the 360 last week I found this forum and ordered a Hori VX stick which should get here soon. Once I get that set up more games will be bought :D .

I have been Stepmania on keyboard at a high level (imo) for years now so I am already used to the process of pattern memorization/focus. Of course there is a bit more happening on-screen during gameplay in this genre

eXceed 2nd: Vampire REX.

I made it to stage 6! Yay!

And then I died quickly, because there's a lot of enemies.

Just threw away what should have been my first A-S clear of DDP with a retarded full bomb stock death on stage 6 after getting through 80% of it with no bombs :( One more bomb would have killed the boss, I don't have the slightest idea how to dodge his final attack.

Ah well, it was a good run anyway. Took a few days off from playing and then came back and did this on my first credit. I'll get it.

Figured out that last pattern on Galuda2 Black Label, piece of cake! I think I can No-miss the whole game if I'm careful. Maybe I'll learn how to actually score more than 500 mil :|

I will be using No Chaser Kagura (almost) exclusively, since I'm getting used to her.

Kinda new to the shmups scene so I've just started in with Trouble Witches Neo on xbla. Going to complete the game with all characters then attempt a 1cc on the easiest setting to boost my confidence. :D Anyone know if getting Luca DLC is worth $2?
