Why even pay money for games when you can get gems of videogame culture like Smurf Village completely for free*!drunkhobo wrote: I have never seen one. freemium games illicit around 14 bucks from each user as compared to most 1-3 bucks from pay to download games. 7 of the top 10 are freemium for example.

It's sad, but Cave could prob. make more if they gave away the game for free and made you pay for modes/levels/ships and w/e
Fucking dumb iPhone users, won't pay $6 for an amazing game up-front but will pay $14 over time for a shit one.
Hooray for changing games from a way to implement challenging and interesting rulesets to a fucking marketdroid's wet dream.

I always try to make the case that dropping the price would increase their net revenues on the app store for the level of quality they produce. I don't know the relative elasticity for the purchase of a hardcore shmup though on the app store, but if some of the terrible 3d games that hit top 10 that are also shooters is any indication, I think cave could lower it to 3 bucks and make more money. Doesn't really matter in the end because I always buy these first day.
Re: DDP:Blissful Death (iOS) and DDP:Maximum (Windows Phone 7)
They already experimented with that using the iOS port of Deathsmiles, which has in-app purchases.Udderdude wrote:It's sad, but Cave could prob. make more if they gave away the game for free and made you pay for modes/levels/ships and w/e

I'm just wondering what filesize it'll weigh in at, DDP:R is pretty bloated in comparison to the other two verts.

DDP Maximum probably isn't going to be that great anyway, I don't think they'll invest that much money in a windows phone game.

My gf was absolutely addicted to that Smurfs game. Every time we're supposed to be going to sleep, eating dinner etc, she was like "I just need to water my crops!", "Give me a second to collect my carrot harvest or they'll go bad."Frederik wrote: Why even pay money for games when you can get gems of videogame culture like Smurf Village completely for free*!

Then after several months it froze and she couldn't access the app any more and it all went down the pan. I felt a little sad for her: she had lost her Smurf empire.
The end.

I think it's a milder form of MMO addiction, to be honest. Persistant online character versus persistant online village/town/farm/whatever, both of which the only way to improve is time/money invested .. (and no skill required, obviously).Skykid wrote:My gf was absolutely addicted to that Smurfs game. Making these kinds of anti-games in order to deliberately mentally ensnare people for profit should be illegal. :p
Re: DDP:Blissful Death (iOS) and DDP:Maximum (Windows Phone 7)
I agree. She never shelled out a penny on additional DLC junk afaik, but addicted she most definitely was. The app crash was like a deliverance and life has now returned to normal, the home no longer filled with the sound of Smurfy noises and annoying title screen theme tunes.Udderdude wrote: I think it's a milder form of MMO addiction, to be honest. DDP DOJ is my least favourite DDP game and one of my least fav Cave Shmups. I dont like the dark visual style, i dont like the boring music - and my fav ship is not in it.
I wish they did a port of Ketsui instead. Now i have to wait until christmas for another iOS Cave game.

ESPgaluda II is still the best iOS port, IMO. The smart phone mode gimmick is what makes it. Playing some of the other ones with no real gimmick that suits the touch screen is meh...
I think Guwange would work well on a touch screen.

I just bought the ipad version of galuda II. Definitely works better with a big screen. but i dont know how many people are willing to fork over $13 bucks for it...ZenErik wrote:ESPgaluda II is still the best iOS port, IMO. I prefer the more serious style of DOJ rather than "under-age manga girl" like Deathsmiles or Muchi Muchi Pork. Don't get me wrong I enjoy these games a lot, it's just the main characters.Nitrous wrote:DDP DOJ is my least favourite DDP game and one of my least fav Cave Shmups. Re: DDP:Blissful Death (iOS) and DDP:Maximum (Windows Phone 7)
There's a huge difference between iOS and WP7, in that the only way to get WP7 games is to actually commit to getting phone service for a WP7 device (eww). An iPhone is only one of the devices that can play the Cave ports - you can also use an iPod touch or iPad, with no requirement that you sign up for a monthly plan for a year plus.Elixir wrote:Is this the part where iOS hipsters cry over a game being exclusive to a mediocre platform instead of being exclusive to their own mediocre platform?moh wrote:dodonpachi maximum is windows 7 phone exclusive???

Trailer for DDP DOJ iOS is up! It will be released next month.

The Legends is Back
Annihiliative Weaponry
Destruction Ordered
Maybe it's just me, but the graphics (scaling) looks a bit sharper than their previous efforts in the trailer.

They dropped iPad 1 and iPhone 3GS support, so this could be optimized for the higher resolution displays.
The trailer itself is pretty sweet, complete with awesome uses of the English language.

Re: DDP:Blissful Death (iOS) and DDP:Maximum (Windows Phone 7)
Yeah, but did they even make HD graphics for this version? It doesn't seem like it, from the trailer. Seems like the same ol' upscaled arcade sprites.
Also surprised there's no wacky bullet cancelling iPhone mode.

Re: DDP:Blissful Death (iOS) and DDP:Maximum (Windows Phone 7)
Doesn't look upscaled, but keep in mind the PGM games had higher resolution assets than the SH3 games... at least, in one direction.
They conspicuously don't mention anything about iPad (2) support this time... was kind of hoping it would be a Universal app like Mushihimesama was.

Re: DDP:Blissful Death (iOS) and DDP:Maximum (Windows Phone 7)
Yes, it had higher vertical resolution at the expense of horizontal resolution. The result is it looks better in one direction, but worse in the other. Obviously this is a far cry from re-rendering all of the 3D models in HD like they did for Mushi Futari, etc.

One of the things CAVE could do to actually sell this to people who don't play shmups would be to actually hire a translator with talent.
Game looks awesome though!

Here I was thinking everyone loved the Engrish in CAVE games. That and they don't even need to hire a translator, just ask on these forums and somebody would translate the few lines there are for free..Illyrian wrote:One of the things CAVE could do to actually sell this to people who don't play shmups would be to actually hire a translator with talent.

I'm disappointed with the lack of iPad support since I only have an iPad 1 and no other iDevice. I'm glad Mushihimesama supports it at least.
