[WIP:shmup] Blast all over !

Hi everyone,
I wanted to show you my shooter : Image

1. Main presentation:
This shooter, is a vertical shmup, and your mission is very simple : shoot all ennemies !
My aim is to perfect this game and being as pleasant as possible.

2. Requirements :
CPU 800 Mhz + Direct X 9.

3. Commands:
● Joystick available to press J
● Escape to exit.
Keyboard:
- directions arrows
- Ctrl : first shot
- shift : second shot
- space : Smart bomb FST

Gamepad:
- pad arrows
- Button 1 : second shot
- Button 2 : first shot
- Button 3 : Smart bomb FST

4. Scoring mechanics
Only big ships scoring. Spheres and the little ships don't increase points. Use Smart bombs does not add points.
score > 2000 and every 39 seconds --> enable 2nd weapon (large laser)
score > 170 000 for 1st Boss
The health bar replenish when you reached 139 000 points.

5. Elements features:
blue/red bar in top right hand screen is health.
bar in bottom left hand screen is laser gauge.

Looks absolutely fuckin' beautiful (and there's something about the graphics gradiusesque eh?)
1) That's ACDC isn't it?
2) Won't recognise my Saitek P220 gamepad but likes my Xbox360 controller
3) Name entry won't work for me either (can't erase "enter name" text and then it doesn't actually enter)
4) How are bomb and laser weapon charged/acquired?
5) How does the scoring work?

Anyway this is soooo pretty I've got to like it :D
Look forward to further developements and please keep up the good work!

And is this game called "Blast All Over" (from the OP) or "Anteverse horiz6n" (from the installer)?

oh, very thanx Mr. mjclark. I am honored that you are the first to test it.
1/ yes, good, AC/DC "Highway to Hell" in 8 bits version (Sorry Bon, RIP)
2/ ok, i have just tested with SideWinder (Microsoft).
3/ It's true for the name entry, i have not make a good interface (No cursor appears...)
You must press on "Enter your name" (with your mouse) / Type a name (with keyboard) / and press "confirm" to activate OK button. And there, you'll return to menu. (If you don't type a name, "ok" button is inactive; yes it's not a good idea... I will improve this interface)

4/ The laser weapon is charged every 39 seconds. And for the bombs, it is a scam because you can't reload them for now. I must add some objects to collect, for obtain other bombs.
5/ For scorring, you must shot on big ships, because spheres and the little ships don't increase points. Smartbombs do not add any points. (it is a pre-realease, a lot of thing must be improved).
Yes i love Gradius, but I do not have their genius.
Anteverse Horizon is the right name of the game, but, It's a secret ! This title is in reference on movie "The Chronicles of Riddick". . You are very observant. My respects, guy.

Thanks- really enjoying this now. What's the blue/red bar in top right hand screen?
Is that health or is it laser weapon or what?
Also game has frozen on me just as laser weapon becomes available (I'm running Windows 7 x64 Ultimate).
Anyway, more please!

I'm also on Win 7 (64 bits). For frozen, I had the problem once or twice. I think it came from my motherboard software energy saver .
2012 / january, 23th : i confirm to you, that my power saver software who freeze the game.

Edit: opps, hit the Submit button halfway through...xD..anyway

I must say this looks pretty good, definatly some gradius vibe in the ship designs-though the vertical view makes me think more of Salamander...

The Health bar replenish when you reached 139 000 points.
Tips : But if it's difficult you can avoid enemy shots, by hiding your ship at the bottom of the screen.
When you are hiding you can't shot on enemies.

Hi Loudblast.

Since you kindly tested and commented on my game i thought it only fair to test your game too. :D

Very colorful.

I think however there was a bug, as there was a large rotating circle that stayed on the middle right of the play area.

Looked like an enemy to me, but i couldn't shoot it or interact with it.

Also i couldn't exit entering my name.
I could type in my name ok but pressing enter did nothing and the ok button didnt work.
Clicking in the text brought up a confirm box, but again, pressing return or clicking the ok button didn't work.

I had to press escape to quit.

My xbox 360 controller also worked fine.

The Graphics FX in this are pretty cool.

Big and colorful.

And was easy and quite forgiving to play.

The weapon powerups were really cool too.

I also felt the enemies could do with some more variety and structure though.

This feels like a good start you could really build on. Adding more enemies, bosses and perhaps some background graphics.

And out of curioisity, what language / development enviroment have you used to create this ?

As a fellow developer i'm always curious as to what tools people use.

It's true, the big sphere in the middle looks like an enemy but isn't. I think i'll have to replaced this "big sphere" by a planet. Whatever the set pieces in the background are not sufficiently well established and numerous.

Yes i'll have create more enemies, bosses and graphics elements for this level and others. I used NetBeans IDE 7.0.1, with C++ language, and scripts but you could use all language with this IDE.
