Looks a hell of a lot more promising than Operation Racoon City. Hopefully no woeful partner system or Chris Redfield punching boulders!

Iunno, Operation Raccoon looks pretty cool. I'm a big fan of The Mercenaries mode though, and it looks like the closest we'll get to a fully realized one on consoles. The one I'm kinda down on is the 3DS title, with it's super model soldiers and ridiculously named floating city.

Is the release date out yet? Looks good.

And +1 for no partner system. I gave up playing RE5 because of it (that and no briefcase).

This reminds me that I have to go and actually finish RE2, which has been sitting in my backlog since I was a scared-shitless 10 year-old.

It doesn't look very atmospheric, which makes me think they're going further down the path of RE5. Still, I'm interested.

More stupid action. So disappointed. I miss the glory of REmake.

I haven't liked a single Resident Evil since 2 pretty much because the camera is way too close, the aiming sensitivity is way too low, and to attack an enemy on a 90 degree angle (assuming you've memorized that it'll be there because you won't know any other way because the camera is way too close) you have to rotate 180 degrees before holding R1 before aiming with low sensitivity. I fucking hate it so much.

4, I gave the fuck up after one section has you fend off catholics while depending entirely on the ally AI to cooperatively turn a lever.

5, I gave up early because the ally AI stands in front of you like a meat shield and divebombs any health/ammo that enemies drop before you have an opportunity to grab them yourself (which you can't because you're a tank and you have tank controls).

I remember complaining about this in the RE5 thread. See you in the future RE7 thread.

Hmm, I have to admit to not being too enthusiastic about the trailer. Looks more like Gears of War with zombies in it, and I don't appreciate Leon losing his cool to all this hyper-realism bizness.

Looks a long way from the majesty of RE4 anyway, but I'm still holding out a little hope.

Don't worry about it. You can travel from the Milky Way to Andromeda and back 1500 times before the sun explodes.

Looks pretty good, except for the melee cutscenes. More movement options + enemies grabbing you out of cover are awesome though. I'm in the camp that thinks that new RE is much better than OG-tank style RE. RE5 in PC with keyboard and mouse is the highest point in the series IMO, a refined RE4 (most filler / backtracking, etc. removed), and I hope this is more of the same but better (for example the clunky cover system need to be improved).

I don't get most of the complaints about the AI in RE5; while it is true that Sheva wastes recovery items (solved by having them yourself), she behaves quite well otherwise.

What filler?

It's fair enough if people prefer the older style, but preferring the newer games and rating RE5 better than RE4? That's madness. RE5 is down there with RE0 as the low point of the main series for me.

Happy about the old zombies making a return, but not clear as to the co-op nature yet. I really hope you play this alone, but from a couple of clips it's looks like you're partnered up.

While you are killing zombies with a single bullet, your AI partner wastes a whole clip to kill 2 of them. This pissed me off to no end.

I feel like the Resident Evil games fall under such heavy criticism that it's simply the popular thing to do, to be negative about a series that for the most part has never done anything but deliver stellar titles. In my eyes, the people who complain about the controls are just repeating what they've heard and if not, then they are just being a giant pussy. I've never had a problem with them and honestly anyone who does must not be a very skilled gamer. It's never been difficult for me to adapt to a foreign control scheme when leaping genres or platforms, and RE's control scheme has been relatively simplistic ever since part 4. They've refined them again for this iteration, so all the Gears of War bros can feel right at home getting stuck on everything they pass by. Hey, you asked for it.

The biggest complaint I can level at the series is how disjointed the story feels between the originals (0-3) and the newer titles starting with Code: Veronica. It seems like two different realities. The originals came off as slightly depressing (in a good way) and much more realistic. Though anyone who claims the newer entries aren't atmospheric has obviously forgotten about the oil field in part 5 and the 4th game in it's entirety.

I will admit that part 5 pales in comparison to the near perfection that is 4, and that the game is only scary when a Chainsaw Majini is chasing you. Sheva's AI could have been improved but the little annoyance she caused was in no way game breaking as a lot of spoiled little keyboard cowboy's would have you believe. It's pretty short sited to write off the series because one entry wasn't to the majority's liking.

Part 5 was completely worth it for the amazing Mercenaries mode alone and I cannot wait for this game.

I dunno, I think the Resident Evil franchise falls under such heavy criticism because it went through such a drastic overhaul and no longer even resembles the original titles that brought it to such fame. I love 4, and 5 was kinda mediocre, but I'd kill for an older fixed cam survival horror RE title. The market is too clouded with action games.

I'd kill for an HD re-release of parts 0-3 in one box, with 2 & 3 getting the REmake treatment. Who do I have to do?

RE4 was great when it first came out. RE5 just felt like a terrible re-skin of it with better graphics and a tacked on co-op feature. My main complaint was that it was mandatory to always play with a partner, be it AI or online with another person.

RE6 seems to actually push a little bit more forward into the whole RE4 concept. The gameplay actually looks improved unlike RE5's re-skin feel which made people go "I've played this game already 4 years ago." However, the action in the trailer seems quite overwhelming and the cinematics feel as if you're playing a third-person Modern Warfare. The series has lost the old horror feel and I don't think they'll be coming back any time soon.

At least they threw in zombies again. With all the action that RE4 and RE5 brought us, Capcom finally realised that they had to do something right.

Usual rain cloud as expected... I'm stoked for it. Don't let me stop the doom and gloom though. RE5 was tons of fun... the partner was fine. I think half the folks who cried about it didn't bother to ever play with a human. Then when using the AI, they NEVER bothered to give it orders.

The partner AI never hindered my progress....

Damn Tim, you know there are quite a few Americans out there who still lives in tents due to this shitty economy, and you're dropping loads on a single game which only last 20 min. Do you think it's fair? How much did you spend this time?

Looking forward to seeing how this turns out. I'll probably buy it even if it's mediocre but plays pretty well; Resident Evil 5's main game was pretty terrible but the mercenaries mode (mainly coop in it) is great and ended up taking most of my playtime of the game.

Terrible is just a tad overboard don't you think. Terrible is borderline unplayable.

Spamming about QTEs on here is way more painful than any actual QTE I've ever encountered. I need to stop reading any threads on any current gen game on here. It's painfully circular (redundant) and depressing.

I could argue it's not and Dead Aim/Gun Survivor was a terrible RE game.

I enjoyed RE5 for what it was, but I feel the opposite; its mercenaries mode wasn't half as fun as RE4's. Then again, I didn't put nearly as much time into it.

Taken as an action game, RE5 is plenty enjoyable. It's just not survival horror.

I agree, I really enjoyed 5 and the partner system was fine (reminded me of the old RE box storage system in a way with you rationing out items.)

I only felt it ran out of steam right near the end. Wesker was ruined and the climax was so long and overblown it killed the pacing. The majority of the game was really great fun tho with some superb set-pieces and a real 'travel' feel.

Maybe I was being too harsh now that you point that out. What I meant to say was "lazy re-skin."

If you play through 4 and 5 back to back, and I have for the sake of comparison, 5 does come off as lazy. I wouldn't call it a re-skin though, mostly because well... it's a sequel? It's supposed to be that way?
