Fewer than the number of people who would pay the same amount for CoD or Halo, for sure. But not "no one".

Ive never really understood why so many ppl are against full priced retail retro games when most quickly drop to the same price as a 1200msp game.

This reminds me.

Did Cave ever say when we were getting the Android ports of DDP and ESPGaluda 2?

Not happening. Fuck, Cave have struggled on the 360 which - like it or not - has been the everyman success story of this gen. On an overpriced PS2, competing with phone gaming, to an audience that largely doesn't give a fuck... The console itself is going to struggle, i'll eat shit if it turns out to be the last bastion for Shmups.

I like Joystiq's interpretation of this news.

In other news, Yagawa makes plans to develop a social networking game featuring universal rank.

Actually I was thinking of a dyamic-rank-driven nightclub simulator in the vein of SimCity, featuring a minigame where you're a can of booze and you have to navigate your canister hitbox between the partygoers to their intended destinations.

So is there actually no way to play DDP Rez or Esp II on my Samsung Galaxy SII?

I note that it was available on sale before christmas briefly but not anymore. If so, that's totally bonkers :cry:

Those are the asian versions only, they can't be installed in the UK. It's not a problem, I got a new iPod touch arriving tomorrow so I can get them on that.

International versions of the Android port of Galuda 2 are still forthcoming, but it's been a few months since we last heard an update on that - and Bug Princess was announced and released on iOS in the intervening time, so you can kind of tell how much of a priority it is.

They can.
To buy them, you don't need to spoof another phone. There are two things to do :
- Install the last Market Enabler (Android Market) and choose the "Docomo" operator.
- Create a japanese GMAIL account. YOU MUST CHOOSE JAPAN AS COUNTRY.

Add your new japanese gmail account in the list of your android Google Account (no need to synchronize).
Then, delete all the data from the android market ("Market" application in Settings/Applications/Manage applications/All).
Go the the Android market. Use the MENU Button then click on "Account" and choose the new japanese account.

Now you can buy the two games (500 Yens each).

Now, you can't download them with the GMO fucking app. You can spoof another hardware. So make a backup of your original system/BUILD.PROP file and modify the following lines :

ro.product.model=SO-01C (and not B)
ro.product.brand=docomo
ro.build.fingerprint=docomo/X10_1233-7397/SonyEricssonSO-01C/es209ra:1.6/R1EA018/1266719038:user/rel-keys

Don't touch the others lines !

Now reboot your phone.

Activate your Wifi connection and launch a game. It will download all the game data :D

Probably a shit load easier to get the iOS versions though.

Yeah, I said it. "I discovered Cave via iOS". If this genre is going to surrvive, it will be because new people will discover these games and this genre. Sorry if I offended your pretentiuos sensibilities.

I think we're all happy that the iOS games are introducing new people to these games.

We just don't like the idea that the games aren't worth full retail.

I would gladly pay $100 for a retail DoDonPachi than buy the n-th rendition of SSF4 or MvC3 or whatever FPS is out there these days.

I'm in the same boat, it's a lot easier for me to justify 80$ for a shmup (which I know I'll like and will get a lot of replay value out of) then it is for me to justify buying a Call of Duty game at 60 or even 40$

I do like FPS games but I usually wait until they fall to the 20$ or under mark before I buy them. I don't play for multiplayer and the value I get out of them is not worth retail at all.

That being said, I will probably buy Medal of Honor 2 at retail because I absolutely love the first one.

Fighters on the other hand are a bit different because I do buy them for multiplayer and if you don't get them when they come out you can very easily be stuck with little or no competition to play against.

I will say that while I've known about Cave games for years, I don't use MAME and I have never imported any games at all. If you can imagine what kind of shmup selection that leaves me with... it's been a weird few years. Stumbling across DFK in the app store back just when it came out was a glorious moment.

I mean, I'm sure I'm not alone in this. On this forum, maybe...

I would gather that "most" are for the simple fact that nobody is going to bother with anything other than a flat screen due to the size constraint of homes. You would be hard-pressed to find something flat and not at least 720p capable made in the last few years.

No you're not alone. I had similar situation for not owning xbox, I always saw all the topics here and felt like fish out of water.
After getting used xbox for christmas and being finally able to buy deathsmiles and dodonpachi resurrection (from local shop!!!) was an epic moment for me. I then proceeded to buy mushihimesama futari from ebay as well.

Been wondering about them earlier this week. Specifically, since Qute has shown that Cave's region lock claims were BS, as to whether they'll show the fans some love and be making SDJ region free. Still holding out hope for an Ibara Collection as well but I doubt that's happening at this point. Since I'm tired of the fact that MS no longer understands that people want exclusives on their consoles rather than multiplatform titles I'm basically done with the Xbox now that there literally is nothing worth buying this year or next aside from SDJ. Still it was an amazing generation for shmups given how badly the genre fell to the wayside during the PS2/GC/Xbox era. Hopefully Cave will bounce back from this end of generation slump they seem to be in right now.

LMAO, or better yet hogtie them and brandish 24 inch dildos until they agree to make Mushi&Galuda 3 :twisted:

An earlier statement concerning a hoped-for "simultaneous release" in more than one region sounds like they're hoping to localize it.
