Anyone checked this out yet?:

I really don't like the cutesy lo-res grafx but it's got a nifty weapons mechanic that definitely makes it worth a look...

"Nifty weapons mechanic"? This is a straight rip-off of Akai Katana Shin!

And that's fucking amazing. I'm really liking this game, and it's surprisingly polished considering its looks. Soundtrack won't go on any "best of" lists, but that's not a problem.

Ah ha- I've never played Akai Katana but if these are it's mechanics and it's hi-res with spaceships then I'd really like to! I'll change the thread title to include the words "Akai Katana clone" and then it'll get ten million views by the end of the day lol

Is it just me, or is gamepad support completely broken? I tried it with the SF4TE and EX-SE, but the character keeps moving up/back. I'd like to try this out, but I can't play with a keyboard. :|

edit: nevermind, it's working with a standard Xbox 360 controller. Would rather use a stick, but whatever.

Here's the dev's reply when I told him about this thread:
"Thankyou for Playing!まさかの海外勢
自分からの宣伝活動はもう完了しているのでプレイしてくれた方が他所で宣伝してくれるのはとてもうれしいです。"

Any idea what this means?

Something about "thanks for promoting my game internationally."

This is lots of fun, but I don't really know what I'm doing. How do you score in Akai Katana? :P

Collect purple orbs with shot - these become katanas. Collect green orbs with laser - these help you stay in ninja mode.

Go into ninja mode (C) when there are lots of enemies/enemies with lots of health, use shot to slow down their bullets, then hit C again to launch the swords at them. Every 5 or so frames that the sword is "stuck" in an enemy you get gold.

Nice Akai Katana clone. The graphics are consistent at the least and the mechanics while clearly inspired by Akai Katana Shin do work well.

I'll have a few more goes of this tomorrow. :)

plays nice, graphics are terrible, they need a total re-draw.

If you can edit controller deadzone, set it to 1000, that should stop that problem.

The graphics aren't terrible, they're just scaled really poorly - a good example is the archer guys, they're obviously upscaled using nearest neighbor and it looks crap.

Aside from that, it's neat, and a good chance for people who don't own Akai Katana Shin to see how it plays.

This game is really damn fun. You get an extra life from almost every midboss so it's not that hard to get to the final boss, but some boss patterns are just ridiculous.

Anyone else make it to 5 mil yet?
