What he said. Saturn pads with adapters for everything... I do flirt with arcade sticks from time to time (mainly modded HRAP and Namco PS sticks) but I always end up coming back to the Saturn pads in the end.Ghegs wrote:I have several PS2 Saturn-style controllers and adapters for NES, PCE, Gamecube/Wii, DC, XBox 360...pretty much everything, really.

Custom handmade arcade CP with Suzo 500 stick and concave pushbuttons. It works with PS2, Dreamcast, PC and XBOX360.

i modded 2 original Saturn Pads with USB-PCBs from cheap chinese bootleg "saturn pads": 100% the feel & functionality i ever wanted
Re: What controller do you use?
PS2 Saturn pad (one black, one white) via adapters for either PC, 360 or PS3.
Custom Dreamcast stick for when I'm in the mood for that kind of thing.
Regular 360 or PS3 controllers for everything else.

360 SFIV TE stick (pal and jpn shmups)
PS3 / PC SFIV TE stick

Re: What controller do you use?
I only game on 360 and use the new monochromatic controller. Seems to work just fine for games like Raiden Fighters Aces and Mushi Futari, not so great for the likes of Pac Man etc.
Re: What controller do you use?
The SF4 TE stick for 360 and MAME, and the Namco stick for PS1/2.
The Namco stick is also easier to transport, so it gets quite a lot of use.

Re: What controller do you use?
Over the years, picked up some necessary tools of the trade for playing shmups & other various genres (racing, fighters, puzzlers, etc) such as:
For 360: Hori RAP EX-SE variant arcade stick (with all Seimitsu parts)
For PS3: Hori RAP Pro 3 SA variant arcade stick (with all Sanwa parts)
For DC: modded Agetech arcade stick with all-Seimitsu parts + transcoder box for interfacing with DC & Neo-Geo MVS/AES platforms
For PSX/PSone/PS2: Hori Fighting Stick PS & Hori Tekken 5 arcade stick
For Wii: Hori Fighting Stick Wii & Madcatz TvC Fight Stick
For Gamecube: Hori Fighting Stick GC & Hori GBA Player D-pad controller
For NES: 1st-party NES Advantage arcade stick (Toys-R-Us was selling them dirt cheap brand new back in 1993-1994 for a mere $20 a pop on clearance).
For Atari Jaguar: custom made Atari Jag Deluxe Jamma DLX arcade stick with Happ arcade parts (made by Dan Loosen from the GoatStore.com site) + auto-fire mod added later on by "Tech God" Matt Ross. Auto-fire option is a necessity on some certain Jag games indeed (i.e. -- Zero 5, the Native shmup demo from developer Duranik, Raiden, Trevor McFur in the Cresent Galaxy, etc).
For TurboGrafx-16 & Duo: Hori Fighting Stick PC, NEC Turbo Stick & NEC Avenue Pad 6 variant D-pad
For Sega Genesis: Sega Genesis Arcade Power Stick (the original three button version that Sega released back in 1990 stateside)
For supergun: 3rd-party Kiki D-pads (Sega Saturn gamepad knock-offs) with auto-fire mod, Neo-Geo AES arcade stick (uses a specially made Seimitsu super short-throw joystick not found anywhere else on console or arcade joysticks), modded Hori Fighting Stick PS, modded Agetech DC arcade stick & the modded Atari Jag DLX arcade stick (it's nice to have auto-fire functionality handy at the flick of a switch if it needed be for arcade shmup PCBs -- meaning less wear 'n' tear on the ol' hands/fingers if playing a serious shmup session).
Plus plently of speciality gaming controllers (& 1st party console controllers as well) like the Namco NegCon & JogCon, Beatmania five key controller setup, etc. Gotta have the right gaming controller(s) for the right job at hand. So be it.

A wireless Xbox 360 Controller
I want to try an arcade stick though. Not sure if it would be worth it to switch to one for playing shmups.

Re: What controller do you use?
Oh hey this old thread.
So I've learned to use a wired unmodified Xbox 360 controller. I felt that wireless had a few frames of input delay that I couldn't compensate for so I play on wired only now. As for games that require much more precision for bullet-hell, I use a keyboard (Touhou series, Aeternum, Crimzon Clover, etc). I still don't know how to play stick. I often overshoot my movements.
I still remember a few of the guys up at Waterloo were a bit perplexed at how I was using a regular stock 360 pad to play Ketsui and other bullet-hells.

Re: What controller do you use?
Right now I'm using my notebook's keyboard. I've gotten accustomed to it, but I still miss my TE stick.

Re: What controller do you use?
I use either an LS-32 or LS-56, depending on which cab I'm playing, although I've been considering giving the Suzo a try. My consoles have mostly been collecting dust these days, but my favorite pad by far is the Saturn model 2.
Re: What controller do you use?
Consoles and PC: Sega Saturn pads for pretty much everything except older systems (PCE, SNES, Famicom, etc)
Cab: Seimitsu LS-32 and Sanwa OBSF buttons

Re: What controller do you use?
I use my good and old 6-button Sega Mega Drive pad via lpt1 port adapter on PC... Works great... I have this pad since the mid nineties lol
Re: What controller do you use?
Arcade sticks everywhere !
Re: What controller do you use?
Last year i bought a Dual Shock 2 USB Adapter (from Speedlink) to use for PC.
A huge improvement after using a keyboard to play games for several years, but after an hour or so, the dpad hurts my thumb
Maybe i'll try looking around the internet for a Saturn USB Pad. I had a Sega Saturn, and the dpad was great.

Re: What controller do you use?
From what I've seen, they use Xbox 360 Hori Pads. I guess they aren't a fan of the disc d-pad. I have to say it took me a while to get used to it but it's grown on me so much that I can't imagine playing a STG on a controller without it.heisenbergman wrote:Why? Saturn pad (original or PS2 version) - haven't found anything that comes close for me, so I use this with my supergun, my 360, even my PS3.
