Why not? It still has all of the characteristics of a shmup. Is there a rule somewhere that says touchscreen controls make a game not a shmup?
I guess you're right. I'll quit hate'n.

It's a pretty minor quibble, but this game really needs a hiscore screen to pop up after gameover complete with the appropriate BGM. S'all I want. :|

Maybe faster loading times too. :| :| :|

You either have no soul, or are completely missing the point.

I think the people playing this are playing it to have fun. We're allowed to do that, right? Nobody with any sense would expect an arcade exact experience on a phone.

At least the loading times are frontloaded and aren't really noticeable once you're actually in game. The other ports have noticeable loads in between stages but less front-loaded load time.

I'm sure with a little more effort we can have it both ways though...

I just got this and haven't had any problems so far. I'm loving it. I also picked up DDPR and Mushihimesama Bug Panic since both were on sale. I can't believe Bug Panic was 99 cents.

I've only just got this after finally getting an iPad, and fun is the word. Sure, it ain't like the arcade game really, but (especially on 'Hell' difficulty on the large screen) it delivers a lot of the excitement, tension and drama of playing the PCB version. I consider it something like a load of Arrange modes of the original Mushi, and in that context I really like it. The post-game loading times are a pain in the arse, sure, but the controls are pretty precise (even if they make it a little easy), and the variety of bullet pattens and modes is great. Hell difficulty setting (which gives each game mode its original bullet patterns) is pretty damn accurate I reckon, although perhaps it's more comparable to the speed of the PS2 port.

Sure it ain't like the PCB version, but the iOS version makes it a damn sight easier to sneak in a crafty credit while the kettle boils, and its far easier to play on my iPad in bed than my PCB set-up. Accessibility ain't always a bad thing, and you never know; this might get a few more people into the genre, which we all need.

And on the subject of the touch controls making things easier; If that's the case, if I was piloting an insect in a war for real (controlling a strange creature that gave me a top-down perspective of the battle) I'd bloody well go for touch screen over a vertex-mounted stick.

There's worse things than a control scheme so instinctive it makes the game more welcoming for more people, even if they get a slightly diluted experience.

'Sensible' might not be the word, but I'll take the compliment!

I just figure there's no harm in being open minded to these iOS shmups, because there's always potential. And in the case of Mushi iOS, as a different Mushi experience, Cave delivered on that potential for me.

For those that might still be having loads of random crashes on ios 4.3 jailbroken devices, theres a new redsn0w out.

I updated my iPad1 to 5.0.1 a few days ago and performance on mushi is much better now. I haven't had a crash since.

Zero crashes so far on my iPod Touch 3, iOS v5.01

Doesn't run as smooth as DDPDFK though.

My mother got what must be the latest generation iPod Touch for Christmas. They're just like little iPads, practically no difference. Bug Princess runs much more smoothly on that. I only downloaded the Lite version to test it there, though.

I was amazed at how small Apple got the pixels on that screen.

Heads up: there's a new update that just came out (1.0.1), but I wouldn't recommend getting it too quickly. Now it crashes every time on startup, even after I reboot (iPhone 4, iOS 5).

The last thing I see is "Loading Gamefeed," every time. Maybe this will get them to reconsider making it mandatory...

Same for me : no way to play the game anymore, even synchronising the machine doesn't change anything.

DON'T DOWNLOAD THIS UPDATE !!!!

EDIT : posted that
Image

there : http://www.facebook.com/CAVECoLtd

and it disappeared a few seconds after posting. (Of course it was bound to be erased, but THAT fast  Man, if they could release updates so quickly....)

EDIT once more : no, it didn't disappear at all, I'm just a moron...

Best thing to do in these situations is to contact Cave World support. They've been great about replying to bug reports.

A while ago I reported several bugs in Deathsmiles to the support email address. They were very responsive and obviously cared about the issues. In fact, the new Deathsmiles update that just came out (1.0.7) has fixed everything I reported.

The update text says not to download the update or you'll get crashes, so at least they're warning people about it until they can get a proper fix.

Question, how long does it take Cave to correct a patch that causes crashes that should correct crashes.

answer = Longer than 3 days by the looks of things. What the hell is the hold up ??

I would assume the code was fixed in an afternoon, but testing and Apple's approval process can take a while.

It's not difficult to delete it and reinstall. I'm sure they'll have it fixed soon, but in the meantime that's a pretty simple workaround.

Yeah, I have to assume that uninstalling the game then reinstalling works because it deletes your save. Same reason first-time purchasers who have never had the original version aren't experiencing problems. Luckily the warning was already on the App Store description when I got around to switching to my NA account.

Deleting your save means getting rid of your mode unlocks, so that's totally not an acceptable solution for most people unless they never really played the game in the first place.
