So far I have heard nothing regarding new arcade/console shmups in 2012 (not talking doujin here). Maybe I just missed the annoucements?
I sure hope this isn't the beginning of a dry spell...
Anything to Look Forward to in 2012?
Re: Anything to Look Forward to in 2012?
Shoot-em-ups usually don't have a 12-18 month hype cycle prior to release, so a lack of announcements doesn't mean anything.
CAVE said they'll have some announcements soon.
G.Rev is releasing a new version of Under Defeat.

Under Defeat HD.
But yeah there's been hardly anything to report since about October.

RayForce iOS and that Sturmwind game
Humans, think about what you have done

Pretty sure this is everything we know about:
- Sturmwind out in March
- PAL Akai Katana Shin within first half of the year, no word on region code status yet
- Slim chance of a PAL Raiden Fighters Aces, if someone rescues it from Tradewest
- Under Defeat HD (PS3/region-locked 360)
- Kokuga (G.Rev 3DS tank game)
- New Cave shmup for Vita, probably a new 360 port (Mushi? Ibara?), maybe an all-new arcade game
While it seems like 2012 will be a rather dry year for the genre, there's still some stuff to anticipate.

I'd like for there to be absolutely nothing coming out for a good three years or so. In that time I might be able to catch up on my backlog.
So far I have Under Defeat HD, Sturmwind, and Gunlord (semi-related) on my watch list.
And Hyperdimension Neptunia Mk. II.

Why is it called the Vic Viper/Warp Rattler? Because the Options trail behind it in a serpent-like fashion, and the iconic front fins are designed to invoke the image of a snake's fangs.

I'm waiting on Under Defeat HD and Sine Mora (XBLA). Both are expected sometime in February.
Re: Anything to Look Forward to in 2012?
I actually reviewed that. It's a surprisingly good game, in complete contrast to the previous title which was pretty much one of the worst jRPGs I've played this gen.mrsmiley381 wrote:And Hyperdimension Neptunia Mk. II.
Estebang covered most things. These things kind of just happen. Usually Famitsu leaks.

Indeed, the German Retro Gaming Magasine "RETRO" has a Review of GunLord in the current Issue.mrsmiley381 wrote:I'd like for there to be absolutely nothing coming out for a good three years or so. In that time I might be able to catch up on my backlog.
