I've been on a RayForce kick lately, both because of the impending iOS release and the fact that I recently acquired a new copy for my Saturn. I was wondering, for those of you who play the home version, where it is that you usually get your two extends?
For me, it's generally at the blue ships in stage 2 or when the stage 4 boss kicks the bucket. I guess, in a nutshell, I'm wondering how much I can improve my playing in the first half of the game.

You can try to discuss it more in the Strategy thread as an RQ.
If you are talking about extends, it is more of a Strategy.

In case anyone's not aware, it should be noted that the Saturn version's extend requirement is half of the arcade's (500,000 versus 1mil, iirc).
Been a long time since I played RF seriously, but in the arcade version (PS2) I usually got the first extend from killing the second boss. In Fukuda Rengou's badass 9mil+ replay (available at http://www.super-play.info/ under "Layer Section" despite being the arcade version) he gets it at the start of stage 2, having pulled off all of stage 1's scoring tricks.

My first extra ship is usually obtained at the stage 2 boss or at the beginning of stage 3. The second tends to be somewhere in the middle of stage 4.
Rayforce is a brutally difficult game for me because I have a hard time not playing for score even after I get those extra ships. And like you, I finally decided to get back into the game after they announced that stupid iOS port. It's one of the best games on Taito Legends 2 and it's high time I showed it who was boss.
EDIT: "Extend" is a stupid word.

Of course, that's just an opinion.

1 mil at the second boss is great. I'm usually only to 700-something by that point.MathU wrote:My first extra ship is usually obtained at the stage 2 boss or at the beginning of stage 3. The second tends to be somewhere in the middle of stage 4.
BIL, thanks for the link. I'll have to watch that.

Check my Rayforce run on youtube for scoring strategies: http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL ... ature=plcp
First extend is at the second boss and second one is in the middle of stage 4.

Sweet, these videos helped a lot. I got to 1 mil right before the st3 boss and a half mil at the start of st1.
