Neon, I swear you are the only ones that can hear the sound issues.
As far as graphics, I find every single CPS2 game looks significantly better on the saturn than the psx, but as always, personal preference prevails.
As far as difficulty--obviously if you are playing sfz3 a couple hours every day, you have way more time for videogames than I do. I enjoy the difficulty of the Saturn SSF2T, but it is definitely well easier than the arcade that is merciless and hates you with a far greater degree than any other SF2 game.

I haven't played the PSX port in some time, but the Saturn SSF2T is excellent. I find the difficulty fine but then again I'm not the best player out there. I love to give props to the PSX where due, but Capcom loved the Saturn and the Saturn loved Capcom... the Saturn ports of Capcom fighters are all very well done and are crafted with much care. As close to the mythical "arcade perfect" as I'll ever need and in some cases better than "arcade perfect" (extras, etc).Neon wrote:Then again, the ST ports suck.

llabnip even said he could hear them, you'd be lying not to in a side-by-side comparison as the sound has been downsampled (fact!) the question is whether the differences are 'minor' to youCMoon wrote:Neon, I swear you are the only ones that can hear the sound issues.

And of course Saturn CPS2 ports have better graphics...it's a question of graphics vs. audio, that's where personal preference comes into play. I prefer better audio unless it's an extreme case.
I only have 1-3 hours a day for games, the point is you should always have fighters on max. difficulty if you're looking to improve. Proof - http://www.twingalaxies.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=2358
If you're only looking for casual bumfuckery, not that there's anything wrong with that, I'm sure the ports are fine minus the loads. The CPSII board is without a doubt better either way though.
The psx version of ssf2t looked very faded to me. I can't even imagine there being a sound difference...these were very early games, but whatever.
You're right, that sound issue is personal preference. Not that I don't give a crap about sound, but to me all of those saturn ports sound fine. They may not be up to your standard, but I guess I'll take a very obvious difference in graphics over a difference in sound I can't even tell.
Of course, are we still talking about SFZ3 or the original SF2 games, which I was speaking of. Do we have any evidence there is ANY sound difference?
Again, I've played all those saturn ports and can freely attest that they are the best looking ports I've seen (easily on par with the new anniversary pack), and they all sound fine to me (again, a debatable point.)
Let's also not forget that psx versions of cps2 games are often missing frames from the animation.... I really think there is a very clear saturn >> psx port issue here. Now of course compared to the boards themselves, well I will leave that to you. I don't really have any interest in collecting the boards and only wanted to recommend the saturn ports over snes and pce versions.

You know, I really can't leave this topic without mention SF2 Champion Edition as before. It was really my first fighter, and even though I sucked at it, it led me to love the arcades.
Thank you, Champion Edition. We all love you.

You guys are awesome. I am a big fan of SFIICE also, and it took me forever to get it on PCE, but when I did it was well-worth the wait. I think they did a great job on it. I love SFIICE, and I think I love SFII Turbo CE even more, though; they improved upon SFIICE in many ways and I think it was a balanced game overall. I love just about all Capcom and SNK fighters, and I like some Sammy and Namco fighters, also...

Couldn't find SFII Anniversary Edition (ordered it online), but I picked up SVC Chaos and KOF: Maniax.
Haven't played Maniax much at all yet. I've played about 14 hours of SVC Chaos, and gotten to the point where I can do some sick shit with Chun Li in practice mode...and then I go online and nothing works. By gawd, everyone else seems to be able to do their shit, but me? I'm lucky to pull off a fireball. *whine*
Does my connection suck, or does everyone suffer this unbearable latency? Ikaruga doesn't piss me off... every, EVERY death in Ikaruga is my fault. There's no way I can blame it on anything but me sucking. This.. is different. When I press a button, something should happen IMMEDIATELY. Not 1/3-3/4 a second or so in the future, if it happens at all.
Maybe I should wait twenty years for networking technology to improve? I can play WC3 online without feeling cheated, but no game I've ever played on XBox Live has ever performed well enough to please me. Halo2 comes close, but it's only bearable for me as long as I don't use any long range weapons.
Sorry to whine so much, but as frustrated as I was with the slightly laggy controls of PCB, it was nothing compared to the frustration I felt while playing SVC Chaos. I think I've now got a record of 12-210(00000).
Is it possible to torture an XBox?
I haven't been so pissed since I did tech support for a large ISPs dial up customers. X(

WC3 was developed to be played online, there is latency compared to single player/LAN though.
These 2D fighters WERE NOT and they just throw in online play, it doesn't work, it won't ever work compared to the Arcade version until one is MADE with that concept planned.

Haha, that it is!yeah, stop playing svc chaos.. that game is terrible. it is broken as hell.

It's a shame that the game suffers from such control and balance issues, I like the cast of characters.
My copy of SFII: Anniversary Edition'll be arriving in a couple of days. From what I've read here and elsewhere, I'm confident that it will be much more satisfying.

Yeah, 'cause Capcom hadn't finished milking their favorite franchise for every penny it could make them.Super sf2 turbo all the way. The game will NEVER get old imo, timeless. My most favorite videogame ever and forever.
If anyone wants a game of hyper sf2 on xbox clive my username is: Ex_Mosquit0 (zero at the end, not an o) Super and ST only though plz. I cant stand WW/CE/TURBO players, it was updated for a reason
Sf Champion Edition was the one that i overdosed on when i was younger and its still my favourite fighter though Sf 3rd strike pushes it damn close. I enjoy 3rd strike on Xbox but the older versions(C.E, Turbo) suck because they play totally different to their original counterparts. Instead of making each version independently, the same characteristics run through each title. i.e. on Champion Ed Zangief has the 'fireball grab' which he should'nt have till sf2 turbo. The enemy A.I. is screwed too, all the computer does is throw you. Cheers. Having said that, its still the best version available.
I remember myself as being really good...
Hmmm, i think i played you on live. You kicked my ass if i recall.Ex_Mosquito wrote:Super sf2 turbo all the way. The game will NEVER get old imo, timeless. My most favorite videogame ever and forever.

I always found SF2 turbo to the most balanced fighting game I've ever played with a group of people. No one can complain about just pressing buttons etc, it all comes down to skill. Here is my list of fighters I enjoy the most though.
SF2
Samuria Showdown
Tekken Tag
Tekken 5
Mortal Kombat
Mortal Kombat II
SF Alpha 3
Bushido blade I
Bushido Blade II
Soul Calibur

Good to see another WeaponLord fan! I agree, the game was ahead of its time: It had a sophisticated combo/cancelling system, and it was one of the first games I can think of that used a parrying system.
The only problems I had with the game (bad animation, kinda butt-ugly) were wholly superficial. If ever a game deserved a quality remake, it's WeaponLord.
I've been playing SFIII:3S a good bit since I got it- it's more or less made me forget all about KOF:Maniax and the pain of SVC Chaos. It operates beautifully online.... if only the SFII portion of the collection performed as well!

Totally the opposite with me. At Super Turbo i get a whuppin', but 3rd Strike i got a 1-in-2 win ratio. I literally can't stand to play ST anymore on account of having built up such a mental block with it. I know im beat before even playing the damn thing.GIANT SQUID wrote:what is weird is that i have better luck with st online than with 3rd strike....
