Does anyone know what Gunbuster (PS2) plays like?

Post by Siren2011 »

I've searched the internet and turned up nothing. Nicovideo might have a trailer, but I can't speak or write Japanese worth a flip.

So, yeah, is this a third person robot game in the vein of Robotech: Battlecry, or what? I love the show, so naturally I'm curious and optimistic about the game.

EDIT: Here is meager footage of the opening. No game mechanics revealed.

If it's anything like the show, which it likely is, it'll start off shit and slowly become cool/good. On second thought, the game is probably shit in the game-play department all the way.

The original intro is better for what it's worth, more faster.

Found a clip, although the action doesn't start until 4:35 in. I'm not slogging through the rest of the videos to see if they're any different. There is some robot-battlin and chaining (haha) from the looks. Maybe it's not shit but it doesn't look too amazing to me.

Well it looks like it's not a visual novel.

I have Blood+ on PS2 and that's one of the other few non-visual novel anime games. It's novel and fun only for that fact. If you can pick it up for cheap, please put up some vids!

Thinking of Diebuster?

Gunbuster was good fun from the start.

It's not shit if you take it what it's for: a self-parody of over-the-top anime from that time frame. I had no clue and thought it was the gayest thing ever after 1 episode... but, it is of course pure awesomeness... w/ some jiggly titties thrown in.

You took the thoughts straight out of my brain - you got a patent on that technology or something? I still think it's good despite having greater preference on the latter 3 than the starting 3 episodes. I don't read into the whole self-parody aspect, I just watched it since it was well received and had robots, but I guess it could make sense given the grandiose treatment given to various aspects (robots need more exercise... what?).

I said shit, not unwatchable. I say this having not watched it thus far.

Well you called it right. I wouldn't bother watching it to find out it's unwatchable either.

Thanks everyone!

Hmm...it doesn't look too appetizing. The character models are bland and the combat looks really dull. Those have to be some of the worst explosions on the system. Enemies break into triangle parts... What is this, Nanosaur?

The good news is I just opened up a Nico Video account for the first time.

Now I must find footage of the Nadia PS2 game and hope it doesn't look as bad.
