Good work! You'll get it. I think I made it through to stage four regularly in Raiden IV DP, and my abilities as a shmup player are middling at best.

Recently, I have been playing Satazius. I'm doing fine, but Stage 3 killed me a lot of times, especially THAT part where you go down.

I 1-ALLed Ketsui like I wanted to, so now... I'm playing Dragon Blaze again. WHY AM I DOING THIS

I got 2-1 down to 1 bomb and 2-2 down to 2 bombs. 2-3 and 2-4 are still shameless shitspam everywhere. :V fun fun fun

Ja, warum nicht? :)
I'm now coming to grips with the 3rd stage, feeling the pain of getting the timing wrong with the rocket...

No longer a grievance! :D After playing DOJ on my giant CRT instead of my small one, I beat my old high score for a replacement of 89,000,000 AND made it inches before the final boss fight. It was great fun, and an ever greater sense of self accomplishment. Still not my favorite CAVE game, though.

A bit of a few things:

-chipping away at Guwange, damn this game is tough! I can chain up to about mid stage 4 so far. I feel slightly addicted to it.
-aiming for 1cc in Space Harrier, playing it with stick on Shenmue 2. This game is so godlike. Consistently getting to st. 8-10ish.
-DoDonPachi: Resurrection, mostly casual play, marveling in it a bit. Think I'll be better off just playing for survival lest I time sink heavy memorization :o

Eschatos and nothing but. Trying to 1LC Easy for a decent score (I know, lol) and then move on to Normal. My goal this year is just to focus on Eschatos. I've put every other STG I own in a drawer so I won't be tempted.

Played some Black Label Futari after not trying it for quite some time. I've decided to put some work into Maniac and God modes.

So far, I've reached stage 3 with about 130mil in Maniac, and stage 2 midboss with about 140mil in God.

When I first tried these modes I found them much too difficult. Now I think God may be one of my favorite shooters.

Fought EVACANEER DOOM for the first time with the volume jacked up to max...

Mid battle, when I was doing quite well for my first time and after it launched all those missiles towards to top and bottom of the screen to cage me in a bullet prison, tears of joy came to my eyes.

The battle more than lives up to the hype.

Some of the bosses are ridiculous. Did they even playtest this game?

Just got back to the local arcade after not playing any of their specific games (Futari God, Ketsui, DFKBL) for 3 weeks.
Managed to get my ass past the last midboss in Ketsui... so i guess i'll focus on that one for now!
I should be able to no miss to the last stage if i make sure to bomb when i absoutely have to.
The clear is inching closer. :)

Is it bad that I love this game?
Back when I was visiting some family in Trinidad, I'd always be on that cabinet in the arcade at Movietowne while waiting for a movie.
It helped that it was only $2 TTD [well, $0.31 USD] per play, which is completely reasonable.

This was ages ago though [like, 2006 or so], and I sucked at it.
Come check out my website, I guess. Random stuff I've worked on over the last two decades.

Thunderforce I, II, and sometimes Zen Itchi...or Stinger(1983)

Thunderforce I- Review pending until I can clear atleast THREE STAGES(god dang that freakin' Spicy Hot Nacho shaped ORN fighter from Hell...STOP...CHASING....ME!!! :x )

Thunderforce II- the very first shmup I ever played and the one that hooked me for life. Still haven't beaten to this day, but the difficulty, fab early Genesis graphics, pacing, and music ALWAYS keep me coming back for one more go.

Zen Itchi- Still aimming for 1CC, overall near perfect game, except for that @%#$%in' 4th boss.

Stinger(1983)- shmupping zen in its purest form. The Twisted One was right.

Gradius II. Spent awhile playing Gradius 1 and actually making pretty good progress for the first time in forever. The autofire niggles got on my nerves, though, so I decided to upgrade. Using the double shot in Gradius 1 really limits your bullets per second and I constantly got myself into wonky situations. Ripple laser in 2 works just the way I want it to. Also a much much prettier game.

My god, you're still having a go at the first Thunder Force. XD

When you can figure out how to get past the stages let me know. It's harder than anything Cave, that's for sure.

Me? Still playing XOP Black Ultra Special. I can get some decent scores in the first few stages via Score Attack but I still can't survive past Stage 2's midboss - and the midboss seems to suicide long before I'm able to actually kill it off.

Still on Futari. I'm glad I'm masochistic when it comes to games, or else God mode might be too much.

I realized that I still have not got the 1cc in 1.5 original, so I took a few credits at that. Managed to hit 150mil and died trying to get the 1up on stage 5. Pretty good for not really putting much effort into this mode I think.

Finally gotten around to playing Donpachi on Saturn which just arrived. It's the only cave title I had never played before (not including Mushi Matsuri 1.5 and Ibara black label). I know it's not a great port but I'm enjoying it regardless, making it deep into stage-5 after only a few attempts, the 1-All shouldn't take long to reach.

Quite fascinating to see Where it all started

DDP:R just arrived today, so I tried out all of the modes (besides Black Label since I haven't purchased it yet).

For some reason I was able to autobomb my way to Stage 5 which seemed really easy....then I discovered these spinning laser things that everyone complains about.

Decided to see how my new Asus VH236H was for shooters, so I played a few credits of Futari. Upped my BL Original score to 35Xmil and nearly cleared with two lives remaining. Not really an impressive accomplishment but definite improvement over the last time I played the game maybe a year ago. Sort of tempted to work on scoring later stages a bit to try and make it onto the scoreboard here.

I re-purchased ESP Galuda II. Had to sell it a while back for some cash but felt oddly attracted to this game. I especially like Arcade mode. The bullet patterns are entrancing and the aesthetics are some of my favorite from Cave shmups. I think I could have a good time trying to aim for a simple clear with this game.

The window options are kind of cool. I'm using a setting that has 2 'around player' windows beneath the game screen. I also put the input display hud beneath the player shots. I think I got a pretty classy look setup for it. Zoomed 150% tate on hd tv.

and Guwange and random DFK mind fucks. I guess I'm on a cave kick. >_>
