It couldn't have been any later than 1990 but one night when I was a kid me and my friend Mikey used his dad's channel stealer to unblock something that wasn't Spice channel. It was the tail end of a sci-fi/fantasy film that ended atop a mountain of skulls bathed in red light. The villain was an ugly male figure with metal tendrils on his head which I think he used to skewer and lift the hero type guy. I seem to remember that after this there was the typical splosion' followed by hero guy talking to hero girl with poofy blonde 80's hair in a spaceship hangar.
For the longest time I thought it had the word 'Force' in the title, and that it was a sequel but after searching around on Google I'm not so sure. It's always bothered me that I can't remember it because the imagery was pretty powerful. Lil' help?
Definitely not Predator. I saw that in theaters when I was little and have probably watched it a billion times since. I still get chills from the main theme.
Sounds like it could be that low budget 3D sci-fi flick known as "Space Hunter in the Forbidden Zone 3D" (Molly Ringwald was the damsel in distress that needed rescuing).

PC Engine Fan X! ^_~
Hmm, when I first googled it I thought that could be it but the baddie in Space Hunter doesn't have the tendrils coming out of his head. He is bald in a similar way but I don't think that's it.
While I really want you to find this film, circuitface, some of the suggestions for films in this thread are amazing. About to watch Forbidden World/Mutant. I always thought that Alien didn't have enough gratuitous nudity in it.

Good choice!
Forbidden world is the shit. I actually managed to rent it on VHS as a kid, even though it had ridiculous age rating slapped on the cover, something like not to anyone under 20 years of age (I was 10).
I like the last few posts very much. Forbidden World / Mutant is a true low budget Corman classic, it simply exudes awesomeness at every turn... easily the best Alien spoof out there. And Starcrash is kitsch genius. (And yes, Caroline Munro was indeed amazing to look at in that.)
Yea, thanks for all those other recommendations. I can't believe how bad these films are, and how much I'm enjoying them. Getting pretty close to tentacle stuff, even, and the gore is spectacularly bad too. Love it.

It has pretty epic ending.
For a minute there I thought you guys must be talking about Lifeforce (hint: not the Konami shmup...)
It's that scene from the trailer where he's all like "WELCOME TO MY MIND!!!" but my memory just slightly altered what it looked like. I'm downloading this right away. It's been driving me crazy for years lol. Thank you!
I found this video on YT, you may see the skulls & bones, the villain tendrills, the cheesy effects (mostly red lights & explosions).
It's a very funny no-budget film, quite creative and memorable, with *good* bad dialogues; It will not be difficult to find a good copy there.
I Hope this helps.
This movie was one of the best of the first season of MST3K. My friend and I still quote that movie. "How is it that you can breathe the poisoned air?" "I.... have.... no.... explanation....." And that spaced out crack whore kept saying, "What is it Dark One?" It's like she had all four wisdom teeth taken out and she was shot up with Novocaine and was mumbling while trying not to bite her tongue.
Undamned is the leading English-speaking expert on the consolized UD-CPS2 because he's the one who made it.
You folks go watch the 1987 Masters of the Universe live action flick with Dolph Lundgren (!!!) and Moebius' designs. Just saying. The trailer won me over simply by NOT having the Voice of God™ feature.
