LS-32 octo-restrictor gates - focus testing participants?

Post by opt2not »

On the quest of trying to find more ways of pimping out my shmuppin' experience, I've been talking to Bryan over at Paradise Arcade Shop, and he has expressed plans on manufacturing LS-32 Octo-gates to be available on his online store. Personally, I love octo-gates for shmups, and would love to have these available to others who have this preference as well.

He wants to do a short run for testing purposes sometime this week. If he can round up 10 people, he'll go ahead with manufacturing 'em for us to try-out.

There will be no charge for the restrictor itself, but we will have to cover shipping cost. He quoted $6 for those in the States, but it might be a few dollars more for those of us who are outside the USA. Those of you who are across the pond might have to pay a little bit more.

Would any of you be interested in participating? This will require you to submit review details of the good, the bad, the faults or recommendations to Bryan. As well as write up reviews here and on other forums if you're members of them. It's kind-of a the trade-off, we get first dibs and a free restrictor, he gets the community publicity and reviews of his product.

PM me if you wish to join, and I'll contact Paradise-Bryan once we have enough participants. You'll have to send me your shipping details as well.
I've already asked a few members here that can vouch for me (this is not a scam, and I'm not going to visit your home unexpectedly - I'd call first :P ).

Brian's a good dude. He hooked me up with a hollow LS-32 shaft a while back when I couldn't find one anywhere else.

This is cool. When I first got my LS-32 I was kind of bummed because square gate was totally screwing me up. I'm used to it now, but I think the octaganol could be very nice.

I hear ya, I only like square-gates for fighters. Round gates are a bit too "loose" if that makes any sense, but having the notches from an octagonal for the diagonals feels really nice for shmups IMO.

Who else is in? Only 5 spots left!

it is impossibility to make octagonal for LS32 and not losing original parameters (short throw)
acting octagonal on LS32 get you worse parameters than now have ls33 or 56 with octagonal.
LS32 have 7mm throw for corect work on octagonal you need 7,5-8mm

ls33 on octagonal have 7mm and wrok fine
LS56 on octagonal 7,5mm

Understand that the gate itself will not be a regular octagon, but will have deeper cutouts on the diagonal sides. I think this can work fine.

the range of diagonals depends from relation throw to engage
for corect workig diagonals on circle throw to engage must be 2:1
on octagonal 8:5 minimum.

sanwa JLF have 6mm engage but throw on octagonal is 10,5mm
and you get 10,5:6

LS32 on square have 7mm throw/5mm engage and need longer throw for corect work on octagonal

LS33/55 and 56 have square restrictors and octagonal
otcagonal have the same throw how square
but original relation throw to engage on this stick i 2:1
and this stick work fine on every gate and throw is the same on square/octagonal/circle

How can the diagonal throw ever be the same, without eight switches or an un-turnable stick with an oddly-shaped "switch pusher"? :o

I'm trying to imagine why you want this project mooted, for those who are happy with the LS-32. With the square gate, there is more "switch-engaged" play in the diagonals than in the cardinals. A new gate could rectify this. I'm mystified?!?

why people like ls32 for shmups?
-because this stick is fine for shmups
why?
-because have short throw
you want add octagonal?
-OK fine - but you lose short throw
I can keep original throw?
-yes but you get weak diagonals

you want stick for shmups with octagonal... fine
this stick exist it is LS33 or LS56

conclusion:
this mod dont have any sense for shmups

what you want to prove?

Haven't heard back from Brian at Paradise for a while now.
I'm considering this a dead venture unless I hear from him otherwise.
