stick recommendations?

Post by mugicha »

Hi Guys, I'm pretty new here, thinking it's time to update the control panel on my astro city, primarily was wondering if you guys had some recommendations on what brand/model of stick would be good, I play a bit of everything on it, shmups, fighting, brawlers. Curious what buttons you guys like as well, right now, it's got a 4 button neo style setup, and I am going back and forth on whether I want to make it a 6 button layout.

thx in advance

Seimitsu LS-56-01 (the -01 means it has the 5-pin PCB that most Candy cabinets' harness use) if you want a really tight stick with minimal hassle of mounting and no modifications needed. Has optional 8-way gate too. I haven't tried it myself yet, but I have ordered one to try out.

You might wanna post some pictures of what mounting plates your panel use so you don't end up with a stick with an non-matching plate for your panel.

imho i would go for a ls-55. although i'm not sure if it is possible to fit it nicely into an astro city panel.

it is for me personally the best stick all-round stick ever. it doesn't have that initial "wobble" (before the spring
starts to resist you can move the stick a little in every direction) with bearing-based sticks.

on the other hand it has a rather light spring (similar to jlf) so your hand won't hurt even after intensive playing.

the engage and throw is a good compromise for all games. it's shorter than the jlf but has still enough room for some
fighting sessions. you can also fit a octagonal restrictor for the latter for easier circles.

it could have a slightly later engage but well, you can't have everything i guess.

as always i have to highly recommend kowal's site about joysticks

http://www.kowal.itcom.pl/ArcadeParts_pliki/eapJOY.htm

currently only polish but the characteristics are very helpful together with a few recommendations.

thx for chiming in guys, sounds like seimitsu is the brand to go with, emphatic, I had a question about the connectors,(not really sure what to call them) pretty sure my cp doesn't have the 5-pin, but rather each stick has 2 connectors on each of the 4 corners, 8 total (wish I could describe it better) I've also noticed different size metal plates around the stick base, will that make a difference for installing?

and matrigs, great link to that website, thx!

here is my inner cp:

What you've got right now is Seimitsu LS-32's. If you get a new pair it's quite easy to install, just take note on what wires go where on the switches.

I haven't installed any other Seimitsu myself so I can't tell you without a doubt what plates you'll need should you go with a '55 or a '56 model instead. Just don't get one with the -01 at the end as it means you'll get that 5-pin connector.

thx Emphatic. I've been looking around for some 55- 56's without the 01 or 02. Was looking at the metal plates on the old ones, and noticed the 4 screws attaching it to the stick itself, so I am pretty sure I can use those with new sticks, (sorry for all the noob questions and such) and thx again for everything.
