A question regarding crystallized battery acid...

Post by Siren2011 »

This all started when I noticed my Nintendo Wavebird wasn't turning on. I changed the batteries, and it still wouldn't turn on. On second glance inside of the compartment, I noticed a white, crystalline substance crusting around the spring where the negative side of the AA should go. I scraped it all off and washed the fuck out of my hands. Turned the controller on again...nothing happened. Even though I had cleaned it all up around the metal spring, so it SHOULD have accepted a charge with that shit out of the way.

I have no idea why the bottom of the battery changed like that (Due to room temperature? Your guess is probably better than mine.), but whatever it did, I think it permanently broke my controller. If it can be saved, however, please let me know.

Does anyone know what's going on, or have experienced this yourselves? How did you solve the issue?

If it's permanently broken, I'd like to buy the receiver!

lol. Sorry, buddy. Issue resolved. :D I was very close to resorting to disinfectant wipes (which would have been stupid, but desperate), but after scraping the surface of the (positive) charge plate with a rusty nail, an electric current was able to be made between the Energizer and the WB.

/thread. Thanks for reading.
