F-Zero X rules!
Re: F-Zero X rules!
The two problems with X are the bland graphics and the fact that there's no reason to use a machine besides the Fire Stingray. Otherwise, it's great, and the physics are much better than GX's. I've never seen anything like X Cup (randomly generated tracks) and Death Race in another game, either. Shame the custom track builder/machine editor on the DD didn't make it to the US.
Have we talked about the unlockable videos in GX for every character? A huge amount of work obviously went into them (things that most people would never see before the days of Youtube), and they're equal parts bizarre and hilarious. My favorites are Dr. Stewart and Baba's.

F-Zero X sounds soooo good. Never played it. I've only played F-Zero SNES and the first on GBA. Owned GX but never played it.

Re: F-Zero X rules!
No offense but reading you guys posts it seems like most X people only prefer it because they suck at GX.

Having played GX with a 'Cube joypad finally, I think I like DualSHock2 better in my arcade racers (although the default button layout favours the original controller). Mario Kart Wii played jolly well with a DS2 too.

F-Zero X is my all time favourite racing game, you can play it forever.
I finished every cup on Master Level, anyone else did it?

Re: F-Zero X rules!
The PlayStation generation has produced gamers with some very... unique tastes. F-Zero GX with a Dual Shock 2 would be about as fun as playing with two rusty-edged tin can lids pressed into your palms, since that pad is full of fuck, as the AVGN might say.Gus wrote:Why would you want to play with a pad?Obiwanshinobi wrote:Having played GX with a 'Cube joypad finally, I think I like DualSHock2 better in my arcade racers (although the default button layout favours the original controller). Because it worked a treat in Burnout 3, Jak X, Crash 'N' Burn, Mashed: Fully Loaded... Actually I played Mashed: Fully Loaded with quite a different pad, but I'm sure DS2 would work a treat in this one as well.Gus wrote:Why would you want to play with a pad?Obiwanshinobi wrote:Having played GX with a 'Cube joypad finally, I think I like DualSHock2 better in my arcade racers (although the default button layout favours the original controller). This game was fun as hell and still is in short bursts. I miss the mute city bgm from this game and port town as well, truly epic stuff(crazy call at cry ftw).

I heard Twin Norita was a pretty decent alternative to those two. Same with Hyper Speeder IIRC. I'm not sure how, but my sister used to be able to give me a run for my money with the Wild Goose of all things, even on the courses with a huge drift advantage.ResumeDPosition wrote:This game was fun as hell and still is in short bursts. Re: F-Zero X rules!
Has anyone ever been able to play AX? Using your memory card in it automatically unlocks the AX content in GX, which is a bitch to unlock otherwise. You can also use your custom vehicles, although there's a clear "best" setup of parts (Frost Lynx).

Re: F-Zero X rules!
Just learn snaking and MT boosting. Not that hard to unlock the AX parts.

Yeah it's alright, but it wouldn't have been a very good quip if I'd added "apart from Burnout 3" on the end.Drum wrote:Burnout 3 is great, you monster.Skykid wrote:Did you play any good games with it?Obiwanshinobi wrote:Because it worked a treat in Burnout 3, Jak X, Crash 'N' Burn, Mashed: Fully Loaded... I would say it falls just short of great, but is still very good and incredibly enjoyable. I'm still bitter that they abandoned the style of 1 and 2. The original in particular is far superior to 3 in my mind.Drum wrote:Burnout 3 is great

I see Burnout 2 as the apex of the series. Absolutely love time attacking that game. I got into top ten of the world (read: in the few sites listing records for it) in Ocean Sprint (R) track, my favorite one.

Surprisingly, Fumito Ueda has confessed to being a huge fan of Burnout.
Paradise was awful, though. The open-world thing was terribly shoehorned in, and the complete lack of pedestrians shattered any suspension of disbelief. They could have just had them always jump out of your way, like in Crazy Taxi.

Re: F-Zero X rules!
Eh, the reason I found it bad was because the racing was bad because it was mainly designed for open world instead of having proper tracks. The world is pretty empty but the game is mostly designed for the free-roam multiplayer instead of single player. One of the only good ideas in the game are the multiplayer challenges which are pretty much a crapload of co-op mini-games that a lot of the areas of the map are designed for.Estebang wrote:Paradise was awful, though. I would, but I don't think I'd be much competition! I just finished the last cup this morning after not playing it for a few months. My times could be improved a lot. Re: F-Zero X rules!
I have now! Here's the video of my Ocean Sprint (R) 1:41.633 time. I haven't time attacked any other tracks (not even the other point-to-point tracks which I prefer) and I haven't played the game for months now so we'd be more or less starting from the same line, so to speak.louisg wrote:I would, but I don't think I'd be much competition! Re: F-Zero X rules!
Are there any differences at all between the PS2 and GameCube versions of Burnout 2? (I know the Xbox received something of a final cut.) Got the first one for the 'Cube because it does 60 Hz, but all sequels do it regardless of the platform. Come to think of it, chances are the 'Cube version outputs PAL colour at 60 Hz, which the PS2 can't do.
I didn't do any time attacking per se in Burnouts, but some Burning Laps in 3 pushed me to my limits at the time (you can't just win by not crashing like you can do against the AI, rubber banding is obviously a non issue, but there's no room for error either). The name of the game is dementia.
To anybody having visibility issues with 3, I can only say learn 2 see (think Raizing bullets). It'll click eventually (provided you don't get physically sick the way certain games make some people).
Actually I fancy checking 3 out on a 14'' CRT to see if it's playable o such a small screen.
P.S. Someone's challenge, if you are into that sort of thing.
