I'm getting back into Bohren & der Club of Gore right now. I hadn't listened to these guys for a while - until their concert in Dresden this Saturday. Man I had almost forgotten HOW good Sunset Mission actually is. One of the most magic albums I know.

It's crazy that it's basically just a couple of kids doing it all. I'm jealous, but glad that someone is making something like it

They also made a videogame/video for their next song http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jz5JgjqF4f8

On a bit of a jazz kick, specifically Miles and Coltrane. Just listening to Ole Coltrane which is absolutely stellar modal jazz. I think it is quite easy to forget his Atlantic albums but I think some of his strongest work is from this period, especially when he is playing with Dolphy.

In a few days I will be getting my grubby mitts on the Miles' second quintet box set for my birthday from the wife. I have somehow managed to not hear a single thing by this band beyond a few live performances so I am very excited to hear the progression towards the In A Silent Way sessions.

I've been listening to a lot of The Jam's Sound Affects, and The Smiths' Queen Is Dead.

I was listening to David Bowie's Man Who Sold The World and Station to Station for about 4 months straight though.

There are a few of us, believe it or not. There may even be a dedicated thread somewhere.

I play a little bit of alto and can play a fair few parker heads but the solos... Jesus the man could fly!

Lots and lots of gypsy-jungle and Balkan-core breakcore right now:

Stuff like this! (Amen Gypsy by E-Coli)

Ringe Raja Records is the place to go for this stuff right now...

And for stuff with a more chilled Balkan-folk-music-meets-dance-music with a mash-up vibe, The Balkan Hotsteppers.

BTW, what's Clutch's best album?

I have Robot Hive/Exodus and Blast Tyrant, but haven't listened to them since I was in Junior High...

No problem. Their best is probably the self titled. That's where they really started to develop their sound and is probably their best, top to bottom release.

Oh, damn. I forgot how good Spacegrass was. I must have owned this record at one point. I'll need to dig around my CD stash.

The Jesus and Mary Chain - Darklands
Whirl - Distressor EP
Queens of the Stone Age - S/T
Deluxe records - Night Owls 1 & 2 - Really cool mellow, glitchy, ambient electronic stuff on Mike Martinez's (from Cars Get Crushed) label.
Sakoto Fujii & Tatsuya Yoshida - Erans - Piano and Drum duo. I need more jazz in my life. Instellar Space is one of my favorite pieces of music, but the genre is so vast I'm not sure where to start.

I made a mixtape as well. Everyone should tell me what you think. I put lot's of work into my mixtapes, believe it or not. I used to make these and include them with records I'd trade.

It's a touch daft, but I love the Balkan Hotsteppers' mix of balkan folk, klesmer music and upbeat breaky dance music right now.

Here's an awesome demo mix by them.

Alright, so you like Trane.
But do you feel the Dolphy?!
I actually prefer his stuff to Tranes. Such expressiveness.

I dig Dolphy but mainly as a sideman, with the exception of Out To Lunch which is almost perfect. I have heard most of his own dates and a bunch of live recordings and although his playing is high calibre, the compositions that he recorded tend to bore me. Give me his duet with Mingus on Stormy Weather any day of the week.

Trane is my favourite sax player, closely followed by Anthony Braxton.

Even those on Outward Bound?
This; for an example: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-iFwOBZhMZ8 ?
I personally think the theme rocks. Some cool obbligato there with the sax.

Trane was something special... haven't listened to Braxton at all though.
