My new computer should be in the 15th, so that will give me some time to set up and give Satazius a whirl. I'm a little excited, I won't lie.
Why is it called the Vic Viper/Warp Rattler? Because the Options trail behind it in a serpent-like fashion, and the iconic front fins are designed to invoke the image of a snake's fangs.

Hopefully it means they'll make a thing of backing niche games. If Astro Port started getting published by Capcom regularly I'd prolly wet myself.

The game is up on Steam now. Sadly it comes with SecuROM and a 5 machine activation limit.

This is stupid. I wanted this game, but if every Nyu Media release, including Ether Vapor, has this shitty DRM I'm not buying. And I will make sure to contact them about this. Of course, this could also be a decision on Capcom's side, and I already hate them enough.

Doujin games do not need DRM.

I am actually enraged by the five-machine limit, but supposedly you can revoke licenses from machines in most cases, so I'll be sure to look into it a lot more before commenting further, especially since I would like to play the game.

This is pretty much what I feared and expected when I read that Capcom was involved. I'd just buy the original doujin release from rancor. It's more expensive, but you get a physical copy and no DRM.

I already supported Edelweiss, I'm not even buying Ether Vapor if it comes with this fucking piece of shit. Simple as that. Sorry and forgive me the cursing but this is inexcusable.

The original games are DRM free, hassle free. It's already on Steam. Why it needs further DRM?

Come on, change Fairy Bloom Freesia to Fighting Fairy now that you are at it...

edit: what Aisha said.

SecuROM??? No fucking way. I will not support Sony DADC. I'd rather pay $25+ for the Japanese disc if this will be the case (Rancor, we'll probably be dealin' soon). Steam's DRM is good enough, and does not hassle the customer.

Sorry Crapcom.

Hmmm, Seems like it might be an error from steam or something but nobody really knows until Nyumedia gives us some confirmation, Other indie devs seem to be happy about the game losing that DRM

Anyone figured out how to play this using a stick? It has the usual doujin problem of not recognizing POV-hat inputs, and for some reason XPadder and Joytokey have massive input lag. If I'm stuck on pad with a thumbstick I'll just go play something else instead.

edit: OK now it works and I have no goddamn idea why. Well, whatever.

Hmm....

http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/s ... stcount=18
The game never had securom to begin with I'm pretty sure. I bought it almost at the instant Steam notified me of it, and yet there's no mention of securom anywhere on my PC.

I checked in my registry at the location secuROM says it is, as well as in my AppData folder. If there's anywhere else people know it could be, let me know.

I fired off an email to Nyu Media and got this in response:
Thanks for your note. That was a (horrific) mistake that has since been rectified.

Apologies for the nasty surprise!
I think it's safe to say that SecuROM was never present in the game.
bVork it up!

Wow, I'm glad this all got cleared up. Still, it was really bad this happened in the first place.

Damn, they probably just irreversibly lost 50% of sales with that mistake. Show some professionalism for once, folks. Quadruple-check this stuff every time before it goes out the door. It's not hard or expensive to do.

Just so we're clear this doesn't have any DRM now? It doesn't use Steam's DRM either?

If you get it in any of the other stores outside Steam it should technically be DRM free indeed. However, I can't seem to find it outside Steam.

Wouldn't surprise me, the response I received concerning DRM on Twitter was exceedingly negative. And I know what kind of influence @shmups has -- Twitter is making forums irrelevant.

It's hard to be sympathetic with someone who didn't have their shit sorted first time. Maybe if Capcom and Nyumedia were cooperating and communicating properly they wouldn't have to suffer the consequences.

I find it pretty easy to be sympathetic, honestly. :) Sometimes, despite your having to explained the plan carefully and clearly to everyone, someone accidentally clicks the wrong checkbox in a massive 20-page form and you don't notice because it's a small detail on the page. Also, with digital deployment, it's often hard for all parties (esp. the developer) to preview things before they get propped to the live databases. So, while I think this was a huge mistake that should never have come about, I can see how it could happen to a very effective development team regardless of their skill at communication.

Somehow I doubt that. Most people who buy on Steam probably don't even know what SecuROM is.

Thank you for recognizing this.

That's just the TF2 numbskulls. Anyone who'd consider buying Satazius is going to be far more savvy.

The listing at GamersGate does say SecuROM for the DRM.
Thanks, bVork - for getting the cat out of the bag that there never was any SecuROM in Steam's version. Guess I'll go for it now.

WARNING: GamersGate's version DOES in fact have SecuROM by the way. I recognized paul.dll in that one and opted to go buy and install the Steam one instead.

EDIT: specified Steam version has NO SecuROM, but GamersGate's one does have it.

Go download the demo, Try to launch it without having steam on (Via C:/steam/steam apps thingy blablabla), If it works i'm pretty confident to say the full game will be the same.

UPDATE: Just because i'm quite damn nice i tested it for you, The game will launch without steam on, I can confirm you it's totally DRM free, Go buy it, It's lots of fun.
