Indee! I started it on the plane but crashed. I will pick it back up. The line about Doogie Howser was fucking classic though.
Oh, I watched Horrible Bosses on the opposite way on the plane. Funny... but watching Aniston talk about fingering herself (amongst other things) was worth the price of admission alone. She's taken good care of herself.

They were starting to lose me in the opening half hour when it was just a bunch of hairy Liberal Arts majors musing about life, but once it got to the customer service aspect, I was in. If you've ever worked behind a register, you will love this.
Nothing better than a good documentary.

I've never seen an abortion before, and while it was a little gnarlier than I had imagined, what did I expect it to be? Some of the "pro-life" nuts in this were frightening, made me glad that there's a large expanse of water between me and that land. Can't we all just get along.

While it was still fairly serious, I really needed a more fun documentary after that last one. Although that's two "wtf is wrong with America" movies in a row.

Yep, Eli Roth's Hostel franchise (with proper credit as writer & director of both Hostel films) is getting a third sequel titled: "Hostel: Part III" for the upcoming 2012 season. It will star 57 year old actor Barry Livingston (of the 1960s "My Three Sons" TV series fame) as a torturer.
I recall that Eli mentioned that Hostel was originally supposed to be a one-off film deal but decided to do Hostel Part II that followed a year (2007) later after the initial 2006 release of it's earlier counterpart. The international "murder for hire" group conglomerate is alive and well in the Hostel series indeed. Will this 3rd outing of the Hostel gore-fest franchise manage to one-up the second Hostel flick or not? Expect the usual special EFX body parts from KNB EFX group (as they did the special EFX for the first two Hostel films). It's a given.

I loved the first Hostel and absolutely hated the second one. I'm not holding my breath for the third.
Re: Movies you've just watched
Maybe belongs in the Drunk thread, but continued my endeavors in the crap early 80's sci-fi fantasy films of my youth with Flash Gordon. Only wanted to observe that this was ironically a more enjoyable movie than Legend, and a little better than Krull (bet you've never heard that order of words come together in a sentence), but (even more ironically) actually could have used more running length, or even a multi-movie installation. I mean, like John Carter of Mars, Flash needs to beat the goodness of humanity into every mongo-kind of the kingdom of mongo with his fists to convince them to overthrow emperor ming, and that too is just a bit too short and anti-climactic. Keep in mind a multi-movie installation would have been just as horrible as this, and all the gaudiness and queen soundtrack probably would have grown old, but still, Flash is just getting up to speed as the end credits start rolling. I guess leave them wanting more, only no, nobody really wants any more of this.

Souzhou River.
Further cements my belief that mainland Chinese filmmakers are the best in Asia. Could have been cheesy as fuck when I think about it (and lord knows, the Chinese are good at making movies like that) but instead it was artistic without being self-important. Raw and effective stuff. It's about the stuff that gets lost in human traffic, but with a bit of a magical twist. A very unorthodox love story, I especially like the first-person storytelling/narration of the videographer. You never see him, but he's still a believable character.
I'd say at moments toward the end there were times when I felt it needed to wrap up quicker - it was in danger of slipping out of consistency very slightly and fudging its point - but on the whole the director was firm with what he wanted to do vs no budget.

Watched 30 minutes or less the other day.... pretty funny over all. I think I am slowly warming up to Danny Mcbride. When I first came across him I wasn't impressed with his humor, but the more I see the more I laugh. He is just so random.

Jennifer Connelly is in it. The movie is made of WIN and GOOD. I've been in love with that girl ever since I saw her in Dario Argento's Creepers (the edited version of Phenomena) back in 1984

I watched Fame this morning at 1:00 a.m. on Turner Classic Movies/TCM. Shoot, I didn't know Alan Parker directed it (same guy from Midnight Express, Pink Floyd's The Wall, Angel Heart, among others). For many, many years I avoided this movie and subsequent teevee series. Hell, I remember when they were premiering them and how big they were at the time in the early 80s. The ads for it made me nauseous and completely repelled me from any art school kids.
Pas mal. I was wrong about the about the movie. I liked the cinematography/photography and the music score, and the casting seemed okay. My only complaint was the ADHD puerto rican kid; jesus h., I thought he'd never shut the f*** up.
I went ahead and bought Fame... along with Flashdance

Re: Movies you've just watched
Just finished watching Miike Takashi's direct-to-video production of Silver. It's not very good and some parts are downright boring. The girls aren't particularly attractive and the action is stilted, except for one wrestling match/move. Still, there is something to be said of low productions and how to truly crank out a modern Grindhouse or Exploitation type of movie. Short and sweet, and on to the next movie - Troma and Roger Corman style. I'd definitely watch three or four of these video productions over anything tarantino directs nowadays

Re: Movies you've just watched
The animation for the new Tin Tin movie looks creepy and ugly as hell. I remember reading this animated movie was in the works, but I was thinking it'd be done using traditional animation with its trademark designs. I cannot stand to watch more than a few minutes of this 3D, Polar Express/Mars Needs Moms animated garbage

Re: Movies you've just watched
Chain Reaction (1995) - Cheesy sci-fi flick. Not bad.
Pandorum (2009) - Zombies in space. Again. Meh.
Limitless (2011) - Something about a super drug. It was kinda decent.
Chronicles of Riddick (2004) - Pretend zombies in space. Nice CG and scenery.
Hunt for Red October (1990) - Submarines and Russians. Plus Sean Connery. So that makes it awesome.
Total Recall (1990) - Two weeks. Two weeks. Two weeks.
Adjustment Bureau (2011) - Men with hats running around annoyed at Matt Daemon. It was actually pretty good.
X Files: Fight The Future (1998) - I have never seen the TV show, but the movie was good.
World's Fastest Indian (2005) - Anthony Hopkins playing a bumbling cycle buff. Felt really good after that movie.
City of Lost Children (1995) - I don't know WTF this was. Ron Pearlman was in it, speaking french, and there were cloned midgets, and a brain in a tank, and some steampunk stuff, and assassin fleas. This had to be one of the most whacked movies I've ever seen.
District 9 (2009) - Fookin' prawns. Great movie.
That's all I can remember from the past 2 months. Saw a bunch of sub-par movies in the theatre (Cowboys & Aliens, The Thing, and some others not even worth remembering), was not impressed. Not sure how anyone can justify spending $14 on a ticket plus $10 on popcorn and a drink for ONE person.

Re: Movies you've just watched
I watched the 1964 version of the Killers. Good, but not as good as the earlier version despite having a superior cast (Lee Marvin, John Cassavetes, Mr. Roper and Ronald FUCKING Reagan). The pacing wasn't as good and the characters weren't as interesting, but still an interesting and well done take on the story.
Feedback will set you free.

Contagion (2011)
Very solid for a big Hollywood movie, although I find that with all disaster movies, the shitty situation getting worse is more fun than how it gets solved. I'm not sure this turned out as "ultra-realistic" as Soderbergh had in mind, but apparently the science is pretty sound.

That scene was beautiful <3 It more than made up for the 2 hours of overly sentimental, melodramatic pap and drek Aranofsky foisted upon his unsuspecting viewers. That movie was made tolerable as a drinking game: every time something bad happens and the violins kick in, take a swig of tequila!mesh control wrote:I love that ass to ass scene in that one anti drug movie.xbl0x180 wrote:Jennifer Connelly is in it.
