List of Classic Arcades in the States

Post by Pharos »

I apologize in advance for linking to Kotaku but I thought this would be of interest for some of you.

Maybe it could help plan your next family road trip, heh.

Too bad there's no listing for the indy arcade hangout known as Beto's Arcade in Riverbank, CA. Considering that it opened up in May of 2010, it's still in business (although on occasion, it'll close for a brief time and reopen again at the owner's descretion). For a while, I thought that it closed down for good but was surprised to see it up & running again...could be a seasonal thing perhaps?

Btw, there aren't any pinball machines inside this Beto's for the inquiring pinball wizards wanting to know if such games are playable there. Is strictly just a local indy arcade stocked with some classic dedicated cabs from the early 1980s up to the early 1990s along with a pool table and a full-sized air hockey table setup. Fully stocked snack bar with drinks on the side if you want.

Thanks for the post. I will check to see if the listing in Joplin, MO was hit by the tornado. I'll be there over the upcoming holidays so I'll definitely check that out.

Cool. Crabtowne USA in MD is listed. The resturant isn't much, but the arcade there has a lot of nice stuff for classic gameing and even a few pins. Not a standalone arcade, but Hersheypark in PA has a nice classic gaming arcade in the park, complete with obscure games like Qberts Qubes (I even saw a Joust 2 there once). When I went to Vegas for CGE 2010, I also went to a Pinball Hall of Fame that was nearby. It had some very neat machines in there, including some vintage ones from the 50s and 60s. It also had a couple old school games, but it was mostly pinball.

Tornado Terrys in Texas is HUGE! Definitely worth a road trip if you're within driving distance. It's one of those $12 for all you can play type deals. Many, many games - classics and new stuff as well. And he sells arcade cabs and parts!

This summer I was out at Barcadia in Dallas. Not so good. The games are all sticky and puked on. Not a great selection either unless you're into the '78-'84 era.

well thanks for this link! I didn't know there was a classic arcade so close to me. within an hour's drive :). We used to have a great arcade here in town, but once it got moved, it never got updated and many of the machines became broken most of the time.

Pinball Wizard in Pelham, NH doesn't have many shmups, but over a hundred classic games and pinball machines in rotation. The owners know their stuff and make repairs as soon as possible when there's a problem. You can get 90 tokens for $20, though some of the pinballs are costly. They just got a Beast Busters cab in great condition.

They even have Gazelle's infamous Sailor Moon beatemup, though it's in a converted Ninja Gaiden cab.

I did check this out and it was horrible. Very few of the games worked at all, and the ones that did were screaming for cap kits, control repairs, or both.

I did have a nice Guiness while I wasted $2 on Staw Wars Trilogy Arcade with busted controls.

If this place deserves a listing then my house should be listed twice.

What the hell why isn't Pinball Pete's listed here?

EDIT: Whup, found it on the map. Still, it isn't in the list on the side for some reason

I was going to list this. There was quite a bit of new stuff when I was there in July, of course mostly pinball machines.

They had a cool Robotron 2084 cab and a Defender cab.
