XBLIG developed by former big-studio people. It shows in the production values.
Feels and looks like defender. Still, very obviously 'western' and lacking in a lot of departments I would consider requisite in defining a 'good shmup'.
Loose control, tons of issues with being able to discern enemy ships from the background (motion blur...), a weak-feeling/looking main shot, etc.
Still, great visuals. Wipeout-esque stylings and VO, futuristic space aesthetic (No little girls). I stuck with it for an hour and actually ended up having a lot of fun despite the aforementioned issues I had with it.

Re: Orbitron Revoluton
Got this today too and I go with the comments in the OP:
Looks really really slick for an indie title but frustratingly underpowered and quite hard to make out enemies against the intricate background.
Still, as has been said, you cant go wrong for £2.10 can you now?

Re: Orbitron Revoluton
Yep, I mentioned this indie XBLIG title in another thread in reference to "Oribitron: Revolution" plays like Defender/Stargate/Strike Force (in terms of directional movement of your fightercraft).
Quite some pretty slick rendered sprites indeed. Just needs a bit more gameplay/game mechanics tweaking/polishing to be a better game though IMO. Perhaps an update will remedy those issues. I like the little "swarmers" enemies reference featured in O:R as a tribute nod from the classic Defender/Stargate game. Even rumble effects is put to good use when using the "boost" button during an O:R gaming session as a nice little embellishment.

Doesn't have a demo, don't think I'll be buying it without one.
Re: Orbitron Revoluton
360 version has a demo, so you can try that if you have 360.Udderdude wrote:Doesn't have a demo, don't think I'll be buying it without one.

Tried the PC version.
It's annoying that there's no option to change the controls scheme. Plus the fact that the default control scheme is somewhat...strange*sigh*

Re: Orbitron Revoluton
Poke the devs about this on Twitter, they might listen and fix that up. They've been pretty responsive for me so far. I'll link them this thread in the meantime.

Re: Orbitron Revoluton
What're the PC controls? Are they mappable to a 360 controller?
Re: Orbitron Revoluton
Not sure about the X360 version, but here's the PC version:

Quite...unusual for a shmup.

Re: Orbitron Revoluton
I think you'd need 3 hands to play with that .. better break out the joy2key (if it doesn't have stick support) >_>
Re: Orbitron Revoluton
Hm, someone with the PC version figure out if it's compatible with the 360 pad?
The game is easily my fave indie game, and I have the world high score for Extra mode atm, but... only 50 or so names are on that board. I've been waiting for the PC version, hoping more of you guys would help keep the scoring competitive ... but 360 pad inclusion is required as far as I'm concerned

Re: Orbitron Revoluton
It does support the controller natively.
I played the game a bit and I didn't really like it, wasn't bad, but 3 game modes (the defense was decent though), a single level, ultra-thin shot kinda hurt my experience.
As for the game's quality as a score-attack game, enemy placement are random I think, making genuine scoreboards kinda odd.

Re: Orbitron Revoluton
I said it before, but
There is a looseness to the controls that is immediately off-putting to fans of shmups (especially modern shmups)
But, I think because of that sort of looseness, if you stick with it you'll eventually develop a much ... deeper? ... connection with the controls

Re: Orbitron Revoluton
Wait, I think the word you are looking for the controls is "inertia"? (Just wondering)

Re: Orbitron Revoluton
Yeah, you're right. I wanted to say it went beyond that, but when I really think about it, it is just inertia.
Re: Orbitron Revoluton
Now I don't want to sound like a 12-year-old but this game needs online leaderboards. Also, I couldn't even change my local name, I just show as "Player" on the high score list. Downer.
