XB 360 bundle pricing... yikes!
$599 or $699 for the 2 bundles at ebgames.com.
Look man, this ain't gonna fly IMO. This is insane. Sure it might add up, but these prices bring back memories of the 3DO when it came out. Making you buy 4 extra games on top of the already costly system is unfair.
I was looking forward to the PS3 (which I am sure they will do it to that one also), but if this is what it is gonna cost, I might have to wait a bit to get into the next-gen.
edit: sure there will be the stand alone system, but eb ain't selling that configuration yet. Perhaps someone else will have just the system and whatever you want or dont want with it (Target, Wal-Mart, etc.)

eh it's probably just eb milking the presale "hardcore gamers", announced prices were 299 and 399 for the system.
i'm sure when the thing actually comes out you'll be able to pick up a system with at most one forced bundle game.
course eb is only one retailer and not even that big in the scheme of things, ignore 'em.

I read somewhere that the basic bundle wont even be backwards compatable.

I'm thinking that the Nintendo emulation aspect won't be a huge factor. Then again, I don't have much faith in Nintendo anymore. Unless something huge happens, they're toast. Considering the incredibly large base that Sony already has, it's going to be a bitch for MS to take them on. Then again, we're dealing with two companies that have a near-infinite amount of money to throw at the console market. Personally, I'm pulling for MS, if only to spite Ken Kutaragi.Specineff wrote:^^^ And I think that's where Sony and Nintendo will kill MS. Being able to play your PS1 and PS2 games on your PS3, and all the games Nintendo will make available through (paid, boo) emulation, will make the X360 compatibility penis a bit too short, IMHO.

I like your style. Microsoft has been coming in short with the ladies for a long time now.

Well it's £279.99 for the full package here, which isn't bad considering the original Xbox was £300 when it was released and the Saturn was £400 (10 years ago)
And it includes -
20GB Hard Drive
Wireless Controller
limited mini Media Remote control
Headset - Voice Communicator
Component HD AV Cable (with SCART adaptor)
As for not being backwards compatable on the core model, it probably needs the hard drive.
I'll still not get one at launch though. I'd rather wait a while for the first price drop, then get most of the launch games for a much reduced price.

thats what i'm thinking anything that doesn't need the hard drive for long term storage, like morrowind remembering where everything is kinda stuff. past that if "some" games are compatible thenb unless those games used very limited use of the hardware it means the 360 can handle most any thing the original could.theevilfunkster wrote: As for not being backwards compatable on the core model, it probably needs the hard drive.
Lol, what the hell does that mean? How can anything be sorta backwards compatibleDamocles wrote:Current word on the street is that only select, popular titles will be backward compatible. ...at least that's what OXM reports.Ord wrote:I read somewhere that the basic bundle wont even be backwards compatable.

Count me out for a X-Box 360
I'm going to wait on the PS3. Knowing Sony the PS3 will cost an arm and a leg and be made by Chinese prison labor out of the cheapest parts avaliable. Ah that's quality kids, SONY QUALITY!howmuchkeefe wrote:I'm waiting for the PS3 as well, unless MS decides to scoop up all the developers I know and love and chain them to their console.
I know that I will ultimately own all three of the next-gen consoles, it's just a question of when.
Of course the games will probably be really cool though which will force me to buy whatever cheaply made half assed hardware that Sony decides to put out.
Nintendo will probably have the best made console but there will be virtually no games made for it except for whatever Nintendo makes.
Proud citizen of the American Empire!
None of the next-gen really interests me.
The Sony PS3 has a weird boomerang controller. Geez, never thought that the Immersion lawsuit would give the controller designers brain damage.
Knowing Microsoft, they are trying to take over the industry by pushing the Xbox 360 out the door too early, and hopefully that will be their downfall (I didn't like the Xbox. Bill Gates already took over the computer industry, stay the hell away from my videogames!)
If I do buy a next-gen, it'll probably be the Revolution. Call me a brain-washed Nintendo fan-boy if you must, but I hope Nintendo gets their act together and truely cause a "revolution" with it. Plus, the legal emulation is a nice bonus. I hope their mystery controller isn't too weird however. How will you play those old games without something conventional?
It'll probably be a long-ass time for me to buy something next-gen, simply because all my money is going towards building a good gaming PC and I simply don't have to time for consoles anymore. And when I do buy a next-gen, the next-next gen will be annouced. Sigh....am I doomed to play outdated stuff for all eternity? Is it really that bad?

Shmups: It's all about blowing stuff up!
I was under the impression this was because of two things:howmuchkeefe wrote:This pisses me off. It's symptomatic of a greedy, control freak mindset, and it's the consumers who will ultimately suffer for its sake.
1. Power PC arch. versus x86
2. MS doesn't own the Graphics chips design for the OG Box, so they have to pay Nvidia, to allow the new machine to take specific GPU calls.

How expensive could it be to slap a few outmoded chips into the box and give nvidia their damn money? I'm thinking around $20-$30 per unit.
This sounds like a good excuse, but what it means is that the consumers are paying for someone's else's lack of foresight and bad decision making.1. Power PC arch. versus x86

Edit city: Couldn't they use emulation?
If any of you watched Microsoft's E3 Press Release for the XBox 360, you know that they said "XBox 360 will be backwards compatable," hands down. They didn't say "Some of your favourite titles will be backwards compatable." I'm just going by the horse's mouth, but that's not to say that the MS horse should be trusted, to begin with, heh.

I bet my two cents that they'll use the GC controller. Kids, remember Rev is gonna be backward compatible.FatCobra wrote: How will you play those old games without something conventional?

They've actually jumped around quite a bit. The backwards compatability rumors first cropped up, and MS neither confirmed nor denied them. Then they denied it. Then they confirmed it. Now (well, as of this month), they've taken the stance of only supporting select titles.undamned wrote:If any of you watched Microsoft's E3 Press Release for the XBox 360, you know that they said "XBox 360 will be backwards compatable," hands down. Xbox 360 will play all older xbox titles but you NEED a HDD or there is no backwards compatibility.Damocles wrote:They've actually jumped around quite a bit. SHAQ FU!
MS did the same shit when the original xbox came out. you HAD to buy bundles to ofset their loss on the hardware by making it up on the games. and every bundle had at least one game you would never have bought in it. Most bundles has munches oddysee, halo, and some sports game, as I recall. no one would liek all three... ever...
Whew, lots of bad info in this thread, so I'm here to clarify.
1. 360 is NOT totally backward compatible. What it does is emulate the Xbox games due to chip differences already cited. MS is working on emulation for games on an individual basis, so the patches should come trickling out one-by-one meaning that some more obscure titles will likely not be supported. You will have to download a specific patch for each game, though the system is rumored to come ready to play Halo 2 and other huge titles, though that will have to be the Deluxe package only (see #2). Who knows how well it will be able to emulate the Xbox.
2. The basic pack does not come with a HD at all, so it won't be able to access Xbox Live or do any backwards compatiblity.
3. Accessories and games are insanely overpriced. A friend that works at Gamestop told me that standard MS price for a wireless controller was $45 and the HD by itself will be $99. Those are U.S. prices mind you. Who knows what they'll charge elsewhere. Oh, and how about $59.99 as the standard price point for games? A friend that just got out of working in testing for EA told me that they want to price the 360 Madden at $69.99...
4. The Revolution has Gamecube controller and memory card ports on top of it.
