Gokuijou Parodius : O_o WTF?!!!
Gokuijou Parodius : O_o WTF?!!!
Somehow, this game came with Salamander 2 I downloaded a few days ago. I decided to give it a try. The weapon and character select screen alone made me go WTF? Then there was the pink balarena panda, that was really wierd. Then the giant mermaid where I died because I rammed her chest (I got pinned there because of the tail coming up out of the water and the bubbles from her hat, not because I was staring at her). And from there on, it just got wierder and wierder. The stage where you had to fight the mini gradius bosses was nice. But the moai heads wearing sun glasses had me rooling on the floor.
So what do you people think of the game?
Oh, and by the way the snes version is exactly the same as the arcade version minus 2 player mode and a few added characters.

The SNES version has mostly the same graphics as the arcade (minus a few gradients of color), but it throws a lot fewer enemies and bullets at you than the original due to the SNES' limited processing power (the arcade board used a 25MHz 32bit CPU, whereas the SNES has a ~3MHz 16bit CPU). Some of the "ships" also have different weapons in the SNES version--in particular, Hikaru and Mambo are completely different from the arcade version.popawell wrote:Oh, and by the way the snes version is exactly the same as the arcade version minus 2 player mode and a few added characters.

The entire series is pretty great imo.popawell wrote:So what do you people think of the game?
A few of the characters have changes to their weapon sets too.popawell wrote:Oh, and by the way the snes version is exactly the same as the arcade version minus 2 player mode and a few added characters.

"I LIKE SHOTS BULLITS AT BAD MAN"
I took your advice and went to see what it was like via screenshots from the gradius base. !!!!!!!!!!!>_<!!!!!!!!!!!! AND THAT WAS SUPPOSED TO BE A KID'S GAME IN THE ARCADES?!!!!!!!!! I don't even think my mother would let me play that.Dewclaw wrote:I think if you really wanna see somethin weird, play Sexy Parodius.
Those screen shots also bring up another wierd thought. The bosses and enemys differ in sizes between the parodius games. How do they change sizes? By growth and shrink rays? Hell no!! They probably use the good old fashoned air hose! LOL
My mind is really screwed up.

It's actually pretty harmless. Aside from plenty of toilet humor, there really isn't that much nudity in the game. The end boss is fairly silly, since it's a nude woman in bed with a sheet over her. All you have to do is avoid her leg when she turns over and that's the end of the game. But the part before that is pretty hectic. That's probably the most nudity in the game, even though you can only see her ass.popawell wrote:I took your advice and went to see what it was like via screenshots from the gradius base. !!!!!!!!!!!>_<!!!!!!!!!!!! SP has a good deal more cheesecake than the other Paro titles (though they're not exactly averse to it either), but nothing blatantly pornographic or anything like that. PG-13 stuff. I honestly mostly took note of the oddball "mission" structure more than anything else, I think that is more "debatable" than the lowbrow stuff.

"Forever With Me", IIRC, refers to the PS1 and Saturn releases of "Jikkyo Osyaberi Parodius," the (again, IIRC) fourth game in the series (there was also an SNES release, but I don't think it had the "Forever With Me" in the title; the game never had an arcade release): Gokujo Parodius (aka "Fantastic Journey") was the third in the series.
Gokujyo Parodius is actually the 2nd in the series.BulletMagnet wrote:"Forever With Me", IIRC, refers to the PS1 and Saturn releases of "Jikkyo Osyaberi Parodius," the (again, IIRC) fourth game in the series (there was also an SNES release, but I don't think it had the "Forever With Me" in the title; the game never had an arcade release): Gokujo Parodius (aka "Fantastic Journey") was the third in the series.

A winner is BM. The MSX Parodius title predates Da! by two years or so and is a unique game.

I believe that this "element" was even snuck past the censors in at least one US SNES game...IIRC, in Pocky and Rocky 2, if you use the "throw your partner" attack with Rocky, he turns into a big tanooki statue, complete with oversized package. I'll hafta see if I can find a screenshot...pixelcorps wrote:the japanese have no problem with tanuki testicles...
True, but for a mother like mine, stuff like this makes her go off the deep end. And I don't want her going through my files and deleting everything she sees (she threatens to do that once in a while). I really dont mind this and it certanly wont give me a nose bleed especaly after seeing some of the stuff from rom downloading (shivers) yuck. I think I will play it when she is not home, just to be safe. My mother is not mean, but she can be "unpredictable" at times.greg wrote: It's actually pretty harmless. I agree, Gokujyou is the best Parodius game, and I have all of them!
I find Sexy the weakest of all... not considering the MSX game, which was great for the system, but it hasn't aged all that well.
I think MSX Parodius plays better than every other Gradius game in the MSX system. They SHOULD had released a Parodius game for the MSX 2, or maybe even Parodius DA! (If the NES could do it, the MSX 2 surely could do it too)
