Tips on Xbox 360 Arcade Sticks

Post by z0mbie90 »

I'm thinking about getting a Arcade stick to my 360, and been on the net and looking.
But man there are alots of different sticks available. Been looking on Street Fighter TE sticks and Hori Real Arcade Pro. VX SA, but they are abit pricey.
I know that if I want a good stick with great quality they will cost.
So I was thinking to get some tips. Witch one is best and so on.

Oh yeah I like to be able to play with it on my PC too.

EX-SE is the one of choice for me...got 2 of them because they are that good (in value as well when on special). Whats your budget?

I think 230 US dollar is what I can spend right now. And I been looking on EX-SE but the problem is that I can't find any store here in Sweden that have them, and I can't import stuff. So Mad Katz TE, Hori Real Arcade Pro. VX SA and some cheap mayflash sticks are wat I can find.

Maybe on some forums I can find some sellers.

nearly all xbox360 controllers will work on the windows os so you dont have to worry about that. With that kind of budget, you have a couple of options really.

try playasia http://www.play-asia.com/paOS-14-71-dd-77-1-49-en.html The Qanba seems to be a new and upcoming group which offers better value than the madkatz offerings.

Also take a look at www.etokki.com for a few options.

I was definitely swayed on a youtube review. The casing I believe is wood, its triple format compatible and you switch via a switch rather than pressing and holding buttons, it has a holder for carrying around, it comes with a lexan/plexiglass! so you can change your art straight away..the rest is same as the TE...

Try posting on the forums on bitterharmony.se (swedish fighting game community) if you're looking for a swedish seller. There might be someone there who will have something to sell that you can mod to suit your needs.

Lycka till :)

Yeah, it's not pretty, but the stick itself is very good for that price. Mad Katz are really easy to mod with parts and artwork of your own choice.

Does anyone have any experience with the Hori Fighting Stick VX? For about 70 bucks it's pretty enticing, especially because you can upgrade the stick or buttons without enclosure modification.

I bought a TE-S a while back. While I had to re-arrange the buttons to make most of my games not retarded, it works really really well. Pretty easy to mod for multiconsole with the new Kitty boards, plug and play for the most part. Works well and has turbo options for games that don't have Turbo buttons built in.

Plus the cord is a zillion feet long, so if you have a 2 player cabinet with mame and enjoy 4p games with your buddies, it makes a great 2nd or 3rd controller.

I just found out that video games new york is selling the Qanba AND the Hori VX. I went in there today to buy Mushihimesama Futari and discovered these babies. Hmm, I'm thinking about just going the cheaper route and modding the VX if I get picky about it later. Apparently it's pretty easy to mod.

Turns out that my lady wants to get me a Qanba Q4 as a gift. I think I'm gonna try and figure out a "hack" for that tattiebogle xbox 360 driver so that I can play it on my Mac as well (it's currently configured for PC only I believe). Btw, if anyone knows how to update the property list file in that driver bundle to include new sticks, please feel free to let me know...

I've just taken delivery of one of these babies. Got it for £25 as well before they inexplicably bumped the price up a fiver later that afternoon.

It 'feels' pretty good. Bit of weight to the unit itself, the buttons actually feel ok (they are the silent type of buttons). Just on feel alone the stick actually doesn't feel too bad either. It could probably use with being a bit tighter like the Seimitsu LS-32 I've got in my Agetec and I've no doubt that I will eventually swap the buttons and stick for Seimitsu/Sanwa.

£30 for a decent base that is easily modified seems a very good price for what it is.

The EX-SE is really nice, managed to find a new one online at dascheap recently. (last one though)
Was going to go for a Qanba Q4 or a rebranded eightarc, it will take a LS-32-01 without the mounting plate. not sure if it fits with a mounting height of 23-24mm though?
I've heard there is a tiny tiny bit of input lag in the madcatz compared to the hori's, not sure how the qanbas compare.
