Help: Getting rid of old-generation gaming/console/equipment

Post by Blade »

Hey guys, I was digging through some dusty old boxes and I've been discovering a backlog of old stuff that I have no idea what to do with.

First up...I have no idea what to do with my old Playstation Jewel Cases and Manuals, obviously I have the discs which I sometimes (but seldom) play, but the Jewel Cases in particular are cracked to hell for the most part, the only surviving ones tend to be the multi-disc cases from Square Enix (i.e. FF7 3 disc box, Vagrant Story, or any other Playstation-era FF game). The manuals are in decent condition, but like I said the cases are either cracked or falling apart. So in essence I have no idea what to do with them. I'm thinking of smashing the cases altogether and getting the parchments of advertising out behind them.

I don't know anyone who collects manuals, but I would like to know who I could donate these to. Same goes for some of my old Strategy Guides (which I have quite a few of), at this point I won't ever buy a Strategy Guide ever again, because of how much space in my house they take up (space is a commodity here).

Also, I have a mod-chipped Playstation (PSX, not PSone), that in particular is missing a ball-bearing, but other than that I'm not sure about the lens but it was sorta working on a lot of games last I checked, but I would like to part with it, if only as spare parts for collectors, just don't know who I could talk to about it.

Also I got an old (well sorta old) Sega Genesis (modern version) that is in GOOD condition, it probably still works, I just don't have the video/power hookups for it.

I'm not trying to sell my stuff in this topic, per se...I just need advice on WHERE I could get rid of it. Like I said, this stuff takes up too much space in my house and I need to get rid of my stuff to make room.

Best Buy will recycle your electronics. (Not sure if by "Recycling" they mean "ship off to Nigeria/Ghana to be stripped there".)

When you say Playstation Jewel Cases, do you mean the CD sized ones or the original supersized ones? Replacement CD sized jewel cases are dirt cheap and easy to replace, if you ever feel like fixing those up.

One man's garbage is another's treasure. eBay is the way.

Well, CD-sized (sorry, nothing like the old DVD-boxed jewel cases like Sega Saturn had), with exception to most of my Square-Enix RPGs:

Final Fantasy 7 (3 discs + demo case)
Final Fantasy 8 (4 discs case)
Final Fantasy 9 (4 discs case)
Vagrant Story (1 disc + 1 demo I think???)
Valkyrie Profile (2 discs case)

Most of these have a crack or two in them so I don't think the cases themselves are worth much, but the manuals and covers could be recycled for fresh cases to any collector maybe?

I don't really want to buy replacement cases, I just want to get rid of them...the PSone discs I have are currently in a metal CD booklet I have in storage, much sturdier than any plastic jewel case.

I don't have much experience (or luck) selling stuff on ebay, so advice on who to talk to would help. :D
