My copy finally arrived from PAL land. Fun game. I thought I might have spoiled myself playing the iOS version daily, but it's a whole new experience having it smooth, in a higher resolution, with my booming stereo, and my stick. :D

Was surprised to see that it has an actual logo on the box spine. Most PAL games seem not to :P Maybe that's not true for 360 games, or it's a case by case basis....

Erppo wrote: Yeah, that is the main problem. Currently if you approach the game purely with scoring in mind, you should first just try to cheese your way through the game ignoring all risky scoring stuff in the stages and if you manage that, you will soundly beat even the best scoreruns that fail to get to the TLB. All the other stuff only comes in after you can confidently max out the TLB score because only after that it starts to matter again. It's not broken, but it's still a bit dumb.

I didn't play the game very much but just getting to the TLB doesn't even seem very hard. The game is basically just BL's Bomb style with a slightly stronger ship, and I know BL Bomb isn't that hard to clear.
uh no. it starts out mild but once u get to the stage 2 boss it's a whole new ball game.

Uhhh, just use two hypers and the thing goes down without any trouble.

One week of training should also do the trick!

And thanks Ilyrian :)

To be clear, since I think every one missed it. I was just saying that Ketsuipachi is a lot harder than BL Bomb Style.

Well while I didn't play the Arrange very much, I have certainly played it enough to know what it's like (st5 boss was the furthest I got) and no, that boss isn't any harder in that.

It was sarcastic. Casper claimed that it was really hard, and I just posted a video (with cliched title) to tell him that he needs to learn2play.

Have you played 1.5?
The 1st pattern in last life bar segment is one of hardest pattern to dodge in 1st loop. Usually I get hit there.

That one is hard, yeah, but the openings in the red bullets are memorizable and the blue flak is aimed. Of course, I've played about 3 credits so that is by no means an expert opinion.

I didn't say it was hard, I said that Ketsuipachi is a bit tougher than Bomb Style.

That pattern actually is a bit of a problem. I've watched superplays where the japanese player hypers that pattern because it's just not worth messing with.

It's one of those patterns that absolutely shouldn't be a problem but just is for a lot of people.

Yes, sometimes (at least when you max Red gauge) the blue bullets fly around in a more random way with a big risk of causing a lousy and unnecessary death. I always hyper that pattern because it's just not worth it.

Edit: That is in BL. The pattern is very simple and not a threat in regular Daifukkatsu.

I don't know why people seem to always say this game is easy. Using the middle-type (power?) it's probably the hardest cave game I've played. Much harder than DOJ.
To go "full-Plank" - colloquial - To experience disproportionate levels of frustration as a result of resistance to completing a task. Those who go "full-Plank" very rarely recover.

People need to be playing Score Attack, dammit. I should not be in fifth place (at last check) in 1.51 with my crappy scores.

(Still loving the game, and wishing I had more time to play it outside of weekends.)

By shmup standards it's incredibly easy for survival. I mean, you technically get more than 10 lives per credit with autobombs, and hypers keep you safe from bullets for a long time.

Scoring is, of course, a whole different matter.

I have Black Label (bought it and 1.51 the day my copy of the game arrived), and its leaderboards aren't exactly populated either, though certainly way higher than 1.51 (kind of strange, considering their prices, but it seems everyone except me hates 1.51). Most people are busy playing 1.5 or Arrange A, it seems.

The other shmup that came out in the west the same week seems to have the same problem, except worse, because it only has one leaderboard.

In short: people are playing these games wrong. Film at eleven.

It certainly doesn't help that DDPR doesn't do anything to make it clear that Gold isn't required to submit leaderboard scores. I have a friend in Finland who bought the game but wasn't playing Score Attack for that reason.

Give it a few months. The Deathsmiles leaderboards weren't amazing around release either.

I don't know, I still think it's the hardest clear I've ever done. Maybe you're just used to lot harder games then since I didn't even do Ura.

You're talking about different modes.
Estebang, there are no (OK, 1 for the bosses that have a bomb icon before them) autobombs in Power.
No miss/no bombing the game is incredibly tough. There's a lot of stuff going on simultaneously and few cancelling enemies compared to other recent Cave games (Futari...). Hypers give you an extra life line but if you're looking to score you can't use them in the later parts of the stage.

1,5 Power is a VERY tough clear. I would say that it is on par with Black Label.
BL has more, faster bullets and some nastier patterns but;
more cancelling enemies,
the ability to cancel hypers (clearing the screen) and of course...
not having to have a full hyper gauge if you actually want to cash in on your multiplier. Scoring is necessary in both modes since you WILL need the extra lives.

Assumed he wasn't talking about Power. A 1CC in that mode is certainly is certainly in the upper echelon of Cave's hardest challenges. I think the whole purpose of it is so you can milk as many points as possible from the early stages.

What I'm starting to really appreciate about DFK is the vast range of difficulties between modes. 1.5 using Strong or Bomb is an easy 1-All, no arguing there, but the second loop is still way beyond my ability. Power Type I just can't stand, having 4 variations of ship speed is too much for me to handle.

When I first got Black Label I tried playing using Strong, not realizing that it effects the difficulty compared to Bomb and Power modes. I shelved it for months before giving it another whirl, and now I'm enjoying the challenge with playing in Bomb mode. Another fun mode I recommend trying is Novice BL using Strong, the second loop patterns are actually playable for someone like me and it's definitely harder than 1.5 (first loop) with Bomb or Strong.

That said, Arrange-A and Ketsui-mode are still probably my favorites.
