Try stalling behind a head that can't hit you, then when the screen catches up to you, zip past the troublesome section of maoi heads to another safe area. When doing this, consider the gaps in their shot patterns. Also, try to stick to 2 options it helps keep the rank down.

oh I see so the enemy patterns and shots they take increase when you have more than two options?

I'll definitely stick with two then - I also find having 3 or 4 kinda distracting when trying to avoid stuff (especially those squares that come out of the background)

Trying to see if I can get 1-5 to 2-1 in a single segment right now. So fucking close but that stupid brain thing clipped me like it always does in practice runs. :V

I could no-miss I think one out of 30 tries, and that's with bombspamming.

Oh my god, it is so hard to get used to doing full runs after months of savestate practice. No run made it to 1m today, and survival was shit (not paying attention) but I did some score optimization which worked really well.

That damn Stage 4 tech is much harder than it should be though. I have to keep the first form alive longer, I think.

Unable to decide between Gundemonium Recollection, Hitogata Happa, Sengoku Ace & Sengoku Blade at the moment.

In Sengoku Ace I have most fun playing with Gennai. Unfortunaly I get my ass kicked with him due to his ultra-delayed bomb that doesn't even do decent damage. Must learn stage 4 boss patterns.

Reached true last bosses on Gundemonium Recollection (normal) and Happa (easy), some parts of them are really nasty.

DFK 1.5! Only recently starting to really appreciate how godly this game is for scoreplay. I'd go as far as to call it the best in the series, and I say this as someone who really enjoyed the chaining in DOJBL.

Everytime I buy a cave game I get all excited to play shmups. By the time I get home to play it, i'm overwhelmingly disappointed (after I wash away th pretty shinies and pastels)
It was foolish to think DFKBL would reinvigorate me to play again.

Been playing a lot of Tyrian on the Wii this weekend. It's definitely not a traditional shmup, but it's still fun.

Deaths from clipping the 1-5 boss really hurt. Other than that, I'm only messing up on the easy parts (and bomb-milking the stupid fucking Desert boss ) so who knows, maybe I can get the goal over Thanksgiving vacation.

- The first midboss in 1-7 actually looks doable without bombs now :V
- Loop progress looks really hard (2-2 boss is horrifying considering my level of resources), but scoring is simpler now.
- I'm getting shakes whenever I no-miss to 1-6, What the hell, I should expect to be able to do that.

Sorry for making this my shmup log, but I feel I should put up my progress for myself, and those who are interested.

Been playing DFK 1.5 all day and am quite surprised I don't hate it o_0. Practicing the first and second stages (normal route). Joystick took a crap in the afternoon. It's two and a half years old and well worn.

I've been playing Gradius 3 in MAME for some reason I cannot possibly imagine. I find that 80% of my runs still end at bubble hell, despite having gotten to stage 6 once. I had my sights set on a pre-2012 clear when I first started some weeks ago but I'd really be lucky for a pre-2013 clear at this point...

One of my earlier scores in Batsugun Special (38M) actually started from the 3rd stage. I just didn't say anything. But it doesn't matter, you still had a great run in the later stages, use that as a remotivator.

I'm not really a Touhou guy but I've been playing Ten Desires lately, which I find relaxing somehow.

Also been playing some Super R-Type 3 on SNES. I find this one just a little more approachable than R-Type 1&2, but not too easy like Leo.

Been after a letter score in batrider advance ...... died today on the last stage within 2000 points of an A score , making it the 4th time ive died just before the A , FML.

Eliminate Down makes my dick rock hard. Seriously, it's Darius, Hellfire and Gynoug rolled into one. Definitely going into my top 25 list.

Back to shmupping now after a little break. Just got DDP Resurrection this week and am having a blast so far. Also checking out Mushihimesama and Ibara in MAME.

Continuing my credit feeding journey through Gradius Gaiden this time making it up to the trio in Formidable Fortress. Such a n00b on this game, Very Easy settings with 7 lives. Still an incredible game and loving the progress I'm making.

Holy shit, just did 2-2 boss perfectly, and then I cocked it up by hitting the bomb button instead of dragonshot. Took a while to get that right, but requires nice dodging throughout.



And today I almost got my first no-miss, but I cocked up the last damn pattern. I was certain the bullets were going slower - maybe I was just "in the zone".

I am so fucking pumped right now, because I'm finally getting used to the empty shot in Ketsui. My score is soaring, and at this rate (I can reach 70 mil at midway through stage 4 on a REALLY good day.) I will feel confident enough to post one of my scores here along side the greats. Other than that I've been too preoccupied with theatre and school to play much of anything.

The empty shot is just one of those things that becomes intuitive the more you do it. You get a feel for the timing of it, and you'll know right away whether you hit it or not.

Still playing Ketsui too. It's more or less the only shmup I've played all year long. I'll play another shooter every now and again to break it up, but I always come back. Eventually I'll have to settle on a new main game, but it's hard to walk away.
