WTF Logitech!?

Post by Ruldra »

A while back I got a Driving Force GT to play some racing games. After a few days of play I noticed that the pedals were malfunctioning - they were activating by themselves, without any input. This problem seems to go away and come back without notice, and it makes the games unplayable when it happens.

No doubt this is just a small contact problem that I could probably fix by myself, but I'm afraid of opening it up and not being able to set it up again properly. Since the wheel is still in warranty, I decided to contact Logitech and ask for a replacement.

After a few messages, they agreed to send me another one. But on one condition: I am to DESTROY MY WHEEL and send pics as proof! They won't give me a new one until I have sent evidence that my wheel is properly "unusable".

WTF is this shit :? I'm seriously baffled that a company would ask me to do such a thing.

I really don't know what to do here. But destroying it is beyond retarded.

I've heard of this. It was something like Disney or Nintendo with their Toys R Us displays. Stores had to send them proof of destruction after their usage was up. Indeed strange, but I guess I can understand companies wanting to avoid customers scamming them for free product.

take a dump on it and send them a picture of that.

I've had 3 Logitch wireless controllers, and 2 died very prematurely.

few years back you could get free x360 controllers over here by calling microsoft and telling them your controller was broken.

guess that kinda thing's where it's coming from.

I hope you destroy it in some epic way and post it on youtube. Set it on fire, throw it off a cliff, tie a million fireworks to it. But whatever you do, make it worth everyone's while (especially ours.) Let Logitech know you aren't the sort of person to take 'destroying' something hands down.

I hope you own a handgun, so at the end of your video you can shoot it a couple more times to make sure it is dead.

Can you imagine if Microsoft had such a ridiculous policy? You'd have to render your 360 completely useless before they'd do anything.

Logitech seems to do this pretty often lately. I've been asked to do the same thing for a crappy OEM mouse. I just cut the cable, they OK'd it. Might be different for a product worth more than $5 though...

Logitech stuff seems pretty good at breaking in general. I have two rumblepads sitting around with broken D-pads and another F310 that's starting to give up. Yet I keep buying them because they're the only gamepads that I know of with lots of buttons, buttons that are easily pressed, a d-pad with decent tactile feedback and two sticks.

I've got a classic controller pro to usb adapter coming in the mail for this very problem. Only $10 on amazon. :D

Send them this as proof of destruction

The 360 does a good job of rendering itself useless without anyone's assistance.

Some of you guys are way too eager to destroy a completely usable piece of equipment :? I wouldn't mind if it was broken beyond repair, but aside from a small connection problem, it works perfectly. It's like asking me to ditch a whole computer because of a virus. Even if I was promised a new one, I just feel bad doing it.

I think I'll call them and ask if there's some other alternative. Hopefully I can talk to someone more reasonable.

Yeah they stupidly require pictures of cut cables for replacements. I don't get it either.

Forgot I had a wireless mouse from them die after a few months. that 3 out of 4 devices. fuck that company.

but if you really want to preserve their crap,
what if you take it apart into lots of pieces so it looks smashed. then you have a chance to fix it like you intended.

Yeah, I was thinking of doing that. If I can get it working again it'll be nice to have a spare wheel.

Or can you set some random plastic junk on fire and say it was the wheel?

But offtopic, why the hate against Logitech? Their stuff is ok. Their Z5500 speakerset is a brilliant piece of kit and my Logitech desktop set is working fine also.

Decided to dismantle it and make it look as messy as possible. I hope it's enough.

I REALLY doubt I'll be able to assemble it again :(

Well at least they aren't asking you to mail the defect to them at your own cost.

Although you should of dismantled it in a way you could put it back together. Who knows, you might have easily fixed it and had another one to spare.

Damn.

My DFGT started going out on me after 3-4 months (same issues, the pedals suck), but rather than get it fixed I decided to upgrade to a Fanatec wheel.

So after reaching the conclusion that companies do that to avoid being scammed, Ruldra's decision is to try and scam them? Stay classy, shmups forum.

It looks messy in the pic but all the parts are neatly stored now. I'll try putting it back together tomorrow, let's see how it goes.

It'd only be a scam if I get a new wheel, sell the old one and the other guy uses it to try and get a replacement from Logitech. But I'm not gonna sell it.

Got a call from Logitech. They want me to send another pic, this time with the PCB broken in half.

So much for my cunning plan, lol.

That was my first thought. Someone is going to get injured trying to destroy one of these things.

They were kind enough to suggest picking up a couple of pliers and snap it in half.

Oh well...PCB destroyed, new wheel is on the way. Thanks Logitech. You guys are crazy but customer support is top notch.
