you mean if letters are big enough to be easily read? yes, that's no problem. the game also has a lot of blur. it really isn't the prettiest despite the nice art style.
as far as i know all physically released games run on 60hz on a pal wii. just need to set your wii to 60hz output.

Nah, letterboxed, i.e. like a widescreen film watched on a 4:3 monitor, with borders on top and at the bottom. Resident Evil and Beyond Good & Evil were like that last gen.ryu wrote:you mean if letters are big enough to be easily read? yes, that's no problem. the game also has a lot of blur. it really isn't the prettiest despite the nice art style.
Hum, some people believed it to be true about the original Xbox, but it was not. Reportedly MadWorld PAL is choppier than NTSC (presumably downgraded from 30 to 25 fps). almost every pal gcn game also ran on 60hz and i believe i would have heard anything about this being wrong by now if this was the case. the wii seems to handle things the same way the gcn did (my monitor shows NTSC 4.43 for both signals).
yes it's letterboxed. are there games that are forced to widescreen and don't have this? that would be awful.

A forced, native 480 game? Excuse me, what? Disappointing, I had intentions on using my 4:3 29" CRT.
I would just opt for emulation, but I heard waggle controls are mandatory with Skyward.

NTSC and PAL are technically colour encoding systems, not synonymous with 60 and 50 Hz refresh rates. Your monitor may be meaning just the colour. Tales of Symphonia PAL is infamous for the slowdown, also, the Eurogamer review of Super Smash Bros. Melee states as follows:ryu wrote:almost every pal gcn game also ran on 60hz and i believe i would have heard anything about this being wrong by now if this was the case. the wii seems to handle things the same way the gcn did (my monitor shows NTSC 4.43 for both signals).
It looks great and moves swiftly, has a huge soundtrack of classic Nintendo tunes, and although the PAL version lacks a 60Hz mode it runs at virtually full screen.
No games I know of, but Radiant Silvergun 360 on a 4:3 monitor is bordered from FOUR sides.ryu wrote:yes it's letterboxed. are there games that are forced to widescreen and don't have this? that would be awful.

I'd be interested on your thoughts on this. I've been playing it solid for two or three weeks locked inside a Nintendo review embargo. I'm keen to finally yabber on about it!Jockel wrote:Super Mario 3D Land

I don't really have an opinion yet, since I only played through the first world for now.spadgy wrote:I'd be interested on your thoughts on this. First impressions are that it's a really nice and well designed platformer, but not up to par with, say, Super Mario Galaxy. Controls don't feel quite as tight and responsive as I imagined, but are tolerable. So far, I liked the mindbending bonus-boxes the most.
I own the PAL version, too. I just wanted to have a version with the bugs intact. Dat weapon charge glitch. Dat orb obtaining glitch.burgerkingdiamond wrote:that Secret of Mana boxart is BEAUTIFUL

That's kind of how I feel after clocking world eight. There's too many concessions to those who haven't played a Mario platformer before. It's a great little game, but it's a bit too easy (especially once it starts showering you with invincibility suits), a touch short on secrets, and boasts a fair few less clever design flourishes than the best of the series. Still, its great fun, and hard to put down. I just feel you have to be tough on the Mario series. I love the way it feels so much like the 2D Mario games at the start, despite being 3D, but really it's best a few worlds in when it feels far more like Mario 64 (from a level layout and design perspective). The bonus boxes are great. If you know about the Luigi thing, that's where I'm at now. I hear it's about to be a challenge.Jockel wrote: I don't really have an opinion yet, since I only played through the first world for now.

PAL supports 60hz for a fact, and the US even got 480p.ryu wrote:are you sure? i think my copy does not support 60hz.
Protip: play F-Zero GX in 480p. Glorious.

I got the cart loose, having the whole box and manual would be awesome. Great find man.

from everything i've heard getting things to run in progressive mode seems like kind of a pain. ._.Protip: play F-Zero GX in 480p. Glorious.
BUT WE'RE TALKING F-ZERO GX SO I'LL THINK ABOUT IT
(wouldn't even the pal game run in 480 when played on a wii with component/vga cables?)

Re: Awesome stuff you've just bought (+pics please)
Easiest way is a Wii with the US game. The video mode depends on the game, not on the console. So if you had the means to start the US game on a PAL Cube with component cables (good luck with that), or on a PAL Wii, it'd output 480p, given you enable progressive scan (by holding B during startup).ryu wrote:from everything i've heard getting things to run in progressive mode seems like kind of a pain. ._.

PAL version won't display 480p, no matter on what hardware you play it.
Since you own the game anyways I don't see any harm if you just download and burn the US version and start it using the GC backup loader.

It's quite cool to play the USA region game of F-Zero GX with a USA region GCN console + a modded JPN D-Terminal to VGA output hooked up to a Ultracade UVC and played on a candy cab setup...sure, it may be running in 480i mode but at least it's running in 60fps arcade-spec framerate indeed. Can't get any better than that, folks. Resize the screen output to 4:3 mode and you're good to go on an low-res arcade monitor.

Nah, what I meant to say was I'd get new sticks (I have some other buttons I can use) and get it all wired up so I just have to change the molex connector, not the individual button wires.
