I have the Blackwidow and really regret purchasing it. Very sensitive blue microswitches. I'm not a keyboard player, but for typing and general use, I love my Filco Majestouch with brown switches. For shmups, I'm more of a pad player, and I'd recommend getting a USB Saturn pad. They're all over ebay and cost next to nothing.AstralExistence wrote:i just bought a razer keyboard to play shootemups (or should i return my blackwidow ultimate for a game controller)
Would also recommend PlatineDispositif's games, CrimzonClover, and Samidare.
Re: best commercial pc shootem ups
Cho Ren Sha is freeware now, but it's still one of the very best.
Hellsinker and all of Siter Skain's games are stellar.

Of course, that's just an opinion.

Crimzon Clover's not free dude, it's $20, might want to take this one off that list.rancor wrote:This question has been asked a thousand times on this forum, sooo.. inbe4lock:

Re: best commercial pc shootem ups
yeah - neither's Satazius or Alltynex Second.Bloodreign wrote: Crimzon Clover's not free dude, it's $20, might want to take this one off that list.
And top of the tops but not mentioned in that list:
RefRain Prism Memories and it's predecessor Samidare
But if you dowant free then there's there's Udderdude's XOP series which are arguably the best non-Japanese PC shmups out there...

Don't mind him, he's just been in a bad mood.
Jamestown is one if you're into games via Steam. Just got some DLC for it too if memory serves.
As for other good PC games, I can't think of any I'd recommend other than the ones people have already mentioned. The PC is a bit lacking I reckon.

I'm sure mjclark would approve. I've heard good things of it.AstralExistence wrote:was thinking of buying scoregasm.

Yeah, for arcade games anyway, though not everyone may admit it, and some think it's "Too Close For Comfort".AstralExistence wrote:do most people here use emulators?

Re: best commercial pc shootem ups
Well I'm only speaking for myself here, but I don't think it's so much that people hate PCs as it is that there just is more shmups available via emulators. We have a plethora of PC work-in-progress shmup material in Development and the active stuff there is quite good, but due to the nature of such not many people have an interest or expect something of Cave production quality. I highly advise you take a look.
Emulators certainly aren't the only way to go but they are by and large one of the easier ways. The Xbox 360 has heaps of shmups compared to other consoles, for example, but some of the better ones require importing which can be costly and quite difficult for some.

About buying original games, buy then if you can because they make a nice look on your wall and they make you feel proud, no joke here... I have no money to get then original but i really want an original copy of Hellsinker (even if the package is so simple

As for the PCB shmups emulators... visit the ""Too close for comfort" thread.
Re: best commercial pc shootem ups
Good lord...
Just ignore all those PC haters and naysayers. Hataters gonna Hatate. Whenever a dev says "PC release", those are the magic words that summon me.
Rancor and a couple of awesome people already named some nice titles. If you are on a Steam frenzy, definitely grab the Platine Dispositif stuff, Astro Tripper, Beat Hazard Ultra (powered by your own music! The dev took out the inertia and the game became far more playable now), Jamestown and, yep, Waves.
Avoid Razor2 Hidden Skies like the plague. Such a monstrosity...
Where are all those posts where I keep recommending PC stuff, I don't want to repeat myself.
Oh, here it is.
The TWINS series games (Alternative Sphere, Twilight Refrain and Twilight Insanity) are pretty solid too. Add more points to Samidare and RefRain, I love both. In fact, RefRain has one hell of a sexy package, guaranteed. (It's nicely designed, very professional looking, that's all)
Check my Youtube channel if you want since the majority (90%) of what I post there is PC STGs. I'm trying to cause some chaos with that web trial of the Akashicverse.
There is also a japanese doujin store but the guy knows very little english. It has some hidden gems though.
As for japanese commercial PC releases, RayCrisis and G-Darius play damn nice on the comp despite being direct PSX ports. Zero loading times. RayStorm and RayForce, on the other hand, suck bad. Raiden III on PC is pretty much the definitive version. Still I'm really butthurt they went to the 360 for Raiden IV. Yes, I admit dammit.

SPRAYFIRE.
Nah just kidding. Sprayfire is bad.

PSX Vita: Slightly more popular than Color TV-Game system. Almost as successful as the Wii U.

Raiden III first and foremost. Pretty rad co-op at that.

How did I forget Raiden III for PC. :X
There was a thread up not so long ago talking about the prequels for PC being complete trash but Raiden III's meant to be really good providing your computer can handle it (some people reckon its godawfully slow, I've never seen this myself though and I ran it on a legacy PC once). Highly recommended.

People tend to forget bout Raiden III and I don't know why. Sure, the majority's tastes moved towards bullet hell, but that's exactly why Raiden III stands out as something different. I guess not being on the Dreamcast is to be blamed.

Re: best commercial pc shootem ups
I'd never heard of Raiden III until about 2007 and even then I couldn't find much info about it at the time let alone the actual game. I personally would put it down to the lack of traditional Raiden mechanics (no wobble scrolling + WHAT NO PURPLE TOOTHPASTE LASER LOL HOW SHIT attitude). Frankly I think the Proton laser's a waste of time too, and I'd be playing Raiden IV all the time if it weren't for the weird wobble scrolling that is in it and that the Taito Type X hack of it isn't very computer-friendly.
