The Mana Khemia series' battle system was pretty fun, I thought, as was that of Ar Tonelico II - III definitely dropped the ball in that area, though.
Yeah I agree, Mana Khemia had a nice battle system. Felt like Final Fantasy X, but updated so that switching characters actually made sense, but required timing.

The game did feel drawn out at times, but the battle system was my favorite part.

Sorry, that was my fault. I edited the text in AFTER ptoing wrote his question. He was just so damn fast. :(

Haha. So you shoot all the time? Is that something you wanna be doing in DDP?
If you wanna score, shouldn't you be able to pace your shooting to chain properly or something? (I don't play DDP for score much so I might be talking out of my ass.)

There's no way you can chain probably if you're firing all the time. This shit is the best ever. Cave know how to piss off people for sure :D

I'd imagine that the constant shooting is only in the motion control, and not on when you are playing with a controller. That wouldn't bug me too much, as I'm not going to try to full-chain stages in motion control anyways.

However, if its also on when played with a controller, then that would suck.

Not that I need another DDP port anyways.

If Prometheus is ever back in our neck of the woods I'd like to see him try playing the game this way for laughs. But no, definitely not a serious control method... though if it's really trying to copy the way the Smartphone versions play, the Kinect controls will also allow the ships to move as fast as the player can move their arm which could make a pretty big difference in strategy.

Looking forward to reading any more impressions members have now that the game is released, in particular about accessing DDP (obviously) for non-Japanese speakers.

I... sort of bought the game on impulse after seeing the LE had already presold out in the usual places. Managed to snag an LE from CD Japan - they shipped it out the same day I ordered it ._.

Apparently you can't change the button config or lives of Dodonpachi. Took some guy 20 hours to clear Instant Brain, which is considerably short for a game of this kind.

Source is 2ch.

So EOJ said DDP has a training mode to play any stage and Hibachi. Any features besides that?

Wow, so at least two people bought it because it's somehow shmup related.

Either CAVE has some of the most craziest fans or shmups players are very hungry for new material.

Umm, both. Is that such a bad thing? Personally I like being crazy, and there is no shame in wanting to play their old games on a modern console, especially if the port is superior to the previous ones.

I can tell you right now most of the board would be all over a proper Mushi or Ibara port since the PS2 ones are relatively questionable (more so Ibara).

I'm waiting to find out if DDP will see an XBLA release before ordering this. Plus I'd need a walkthrough since I can't read Japanese :?

I've actually heard the gameplay compared to Phoenix Wright.

A couple of lucky guesses and you'll be fine lol.

I remember playing Sakura Wars 2 back in the days on the Saturn. Dating portion of the game made no sense to me but the tactics portion was awesome.

I'm sure if it gets complicated there will be a tutorial down the road.

That's not at all what I've been reading. Supposedly it's unplayable due to the language barrier, and not just for the sake of understanding or enjoying the story.

I can't believe no one's realizing the obvious...if this is included as a freebie in a VN then Cave is only a few months away from dropping it on XBLA also (or maybe even in some kind of collection). Otherwise this seems like a lot of effort to just patch it in to another title as a freebie. Just my speculation, but I wouldn't buy a VN you can't understand for this when it's likely to be made available very soon in another format.

Yeah, and all indications point to it being considerably inferior to the MAME-supported version.

Controls can't be formatted and there doesn't appear to be an over-scan adjust or even screen rotation (I know somebody mentioned earlier that it had tate but the guy goes through all of the bare-bones options and that isn't there).

Didn't the WR Ibara player also get a ridiculously high score on the ps2 port, showing that the port is actually fairly true to the pcb?

I would definitely check out a new version of Dodonpachi, since the other ports are so off that Promethius can't score nearly as well on them, but I don't think I would be interested enough to buy Instant Brain just for that. But hey, I suck at DDP anyways.
