How Do You Dismantle an Egret II?

Post by man9child »

So I just found an Egret II. But I for sure will have to remove the control panel to get it through my doorway, and pending on when it gets delivered, I might be on my own schleping it up some stairs, meaning I'd have to pull the monitor out.

So what I wanted to know, is what tools do I need to:
a) Remove the control panel on an E2
b) Remove the monitor on an E2

And for that matter, how do you remove the monitor on the E2? I know there are 4 bolts that hold it to the rotate mech. But then, what, do you go through the back panel to get to the chasis? How many harnesses have to get unplugged on an MS9?

Thanks.

a) quite easy, unlock the panel (round key, bottom sides of panel surround), flip it open and remove the bricks/bolts (unscrew the Allen keys going into these by reaching your hand in the gap between the panel surround and the monitor).

b) no idea, but I understand it's quite hard

For man9child,

Just remove the four machine screws & bolts that hold up the Egret II control panel setup. Easy as pie.

I wouldn't recommend removing the 29" Nanao monitor though and just leave it inside the cab (just simple one step that you won't have to deal/hassle with later on). Just ask a buddy or a neighbor to lend a hand in getting it up the stairs. A good solid hand truck oughta do the trick slowly getting the E2 cab up the stairs one step at a time. Easy does it.

Then it's just a matter of reassembling the E2 control panel back on once inside the room. Just be sure to hook the E2 candy cab up to a good surge protector setup (rather than directly plugging the E2's power cord into an 120v AC outlet).

To remove the monitor you'll have to go through the back panel; I'm in another country from my poor neglected E2 so this is from memory:

1) remove neckboard (there may be some adhesive holding it on, be careful here. neck damage can ruin the tube)
2) discharge monitor and remove anode cap
3) remove ground connector (single pin, I think to the chassis, but memory is fuzzy here)

Okay, got the cab. It's in my basement cause I couldn't get it through the front door with the panel on. I was under the impression I could remove the bolts with an allen key but it doesn't look that way. Is that right? Just gave it a quick once over cause I was too busy playing games.

What tool do I need for those bolts, and are there just four of them? I counted more. Is it just the outermost bolts that need removing?

Got the panel off. You did just need an allen key.

Thanks, guys.

Got the cab up where it needs to go. Had to take off the panel and the coin arm to get it through the door.

New question:

When I first rotated the monitor I noticed that there was a lot of play in the brackets that hold the monitor in place, so I tightened them (while the monitor was locked in the horizontal position.) Now I've noticed that since I rotated the monitor back to horizontal, it is sitting a little low, and as a result there is a light leak at the top of the monitor. It's also very hard to get all 4 wing nuts in proper position now that there's less play in the brackets.

I just want to know if everyone here has their brackets in tight or if it's better to leave a little wiggle room. With wiggle room, I felt that the monitor was getting caught on the brackets while rotating.

The monitor also seems to tilt foward a little bit once I undo the wingnuts, is this normal or should I go through and tighten whatever is holding the monitor?

Your bezel might be on upside down. It's designed with a "hump" that sits between your speakers. It's got this for both orientations. I can't answer your other question, but I've noticed the same issues you describe, so it might be "normal".
