Toaplan Shooting Battle 1 questions
Toaplan Shooting Battle 1 questions
firstly, is it 100 percent compatible with PS2 (no unwanted slowdowns or glitches etc), and secondly, the title insinuates there may be a second one.
Is there?
PS it has tate right?

Re: Toaplan Shooting Battle 1 questions
Sadly, there is no volume 2. I do believe the games support tate though!
I would also be interested to know if it is compatible with the ps2, specifically a slim model 90000.

Re: Toaplan Shooting Battle 1 questions
I've never actually played this, but I do remember people saying it was incompatible with PS2s.

Re: Toaplan Shooting Battle 1 questions
Only Tiger Heli works on the PS 2, Twin Cobra and Kyukyoku Tiger freeze on the Now Loading screen.

Re: Toaplan Shooting Battle 1 questions
That's a bit of a pity. Ah well, something to think about in the future. I can't imagine Japanese PSXs would be very expensive these days, I do want to pick this up as the games are classics.
tell ya one thing though, I tested the ISO of Raiden DX on my chipped PS2 and it seems to work 100 percent - Game is sick. I've seen the re-release on PA for dirt cheap, does this version come in a jewel case or some shitty cardboard slip? If it's crap I'll search out the original...

On my PS2 Twin Cobra / Kyuukyoku Tiger ran at half speed.

This is kind of interesting - I've seen the "Now Loading" TC/KT freeze in the ePSXe and pSX emulators, but my Japanese PS2 does the "30fps max" thing. I wonder if there's a difference in the way different PS2 revisions handle PS1 games? Could account for the varying input lag reports posted on this forum regarding Zanac Neo, Night Raid and Capcom Generation 1 running on PS2s.Kollision wrote:On my PS2 Twin Cobra / Kyuukyoku Tiger ran at half speed.

Re: Toaplan Shooting Battle 1 questions
It would be great to compile a list of how these "trouble games" run on the different models of japanese ps2s.
I would be pretty bummed if there was no way to play Zanac X Zanac on my ps2, but it seems a tad risky to buy the game hoping that it will run well

Re: Toaplan Shooting Battle 1 questions
Toaplan Shooting Battle 1 is the only JP PS1 game I've played that doesn't work on the JP PS2. I bought a JP PS1 just to be able to play it! I didn't have freezing, btw-- just enormous slowdown.

Re: Toaplan Shooting Battle 1 questions
Definitely all this. Whats the bet all the 3d stuff works fine, and the few games I do want to play are affected (Gradius Gaiden, Toaplan SB1 etc). Got the Compile one working on an emulator (PC) and once again, wouldn't mind trying it on actual hardware. What's this FreeMCboot? Mate was telling me he's reading a bit about possible solved compatibility issues with certain games.

Re: Toaplan Shooting Battle 1 questions
For what it's worth, Toaplan Shooting Battle No 1 is 100% compatible with PS3. No slowdown.
Of course since PS1 games are region locked you'll need either a Japanese PS3 or a hacked PS3 (=install a custom firmware or a modified firmware on a PS3 with firmware 3.55 or below). There now is a homebrew tool for PS3 that allows you to play PS1 imports (and backup CD-Rs) on your PS3 (slim or fat).
(Neither direct linking or "just put this into Google" -type of deals for this sort of thing are allowed on this forum. Please read the rules. -Ghegs)

Re: Toaplan Shooting Battle 1 questions
@Ghegs
Sure, I did read them. Mind you, I did not link to any disc images or ROMs, I only mentioned the name of the hombrew tool. On the other hand there are several ongoing emulator-related topics on this board which explain precisely how to boot ROMs, which emulators to use and how to properly set them up. I've seen PS1/2 emulators mentioned by name, too, and even swap discs.
What's the difference between using a PC emulator or a swap disc to play PS1 games and playing them on the built-in emulator of a hombrew-enabled PS3? After all, it can be used to play games one legally owns. I for one do own a genuine copy of Toaplan Shooting Battle No 1.
Just like the people now playing CAVE ROMs on PC emulators might actually own those PCBs.
By the way, in the post directly about mine yet another tool that can be used for both legal and illegal purposes is mentioned, you didn't delete that one either. Presumed innocent until proven guilty?

Re: Toaplan Shooting Battle 1 questions
It's sometimes hard to see where to draw the line when it comes to discussions about this stuff. Emulators and emulation aren't a problem though, only the ROM parts of those discussions are forbidden.
Hacking consoles is another matter, especially in this case where the console in question is still in production. We have some people using JTAG'd Xbox 360's and softmodded Wiis, but there's never been, at least not to my knowledge, any links or guides posted on how to actually do those things. I'd like to see it kept that way.
You're right, I didn't edit stryc9's post. Your post had that "(and backup CD-Rs)" line which started up the red flashing sirens in my head. This is where it gets difficult to say what's acceptable and what's not.
We can discuss this further over PM if you'd like, let's not derail this thread further.

Ok, in summary, the gentlemen's agreement here is not to mention backups (be they legit or not). Gotcha.

Re: Toaplan Shooting Battle 1 questions
The legal, mod-pleasing alternative to hacked Sony consoles is picking up a de-bug console (they sometimes crop up on eBay and even in our trading section on very rare occaisions).
My de-bug PS3 runs all PS1, PS2, and PS3 games just fine. For 99% of games you don't even have to switch the regions. However. a 'fake region change' option in the menus lets you run even the 'trouble' games as they were originally intended.
De-bug PS3's are tricky to get, but de-bug (AKA 'test) PS2s are cheap as hell. I don't know how TSB1 runs on a de-bug PS2. I'll try it tomorrow if I get a spare moment.

Re: Toaplan Shooting Battle 1 questions
I've played Zanac X Zanac on both the big box PS2 and the slim and it seems to run fine. No input lag that I could perceive.
FULL LOCK is BOMB

Debug consoles? Very interesting indeed. That would be great if you could try that Spadgy.spadgy wrote:The legal, mod-pleasing alternative to hacked Sony consoles is picking up a de-bug console (they sometimes crop up on eBay and even in our trading section on very rare occaisions).

I'll fire up my dusty old debug PS2 today!
Re: Toaplan Shooting Battle 1 questions
aren't Twin Cobra and Kyukyoku Tiger the exact same game..... that's quite a weird collection :S
Re: Toaplan Shooting Battle 1 questions
No - there's quite a few difference. As it happens, I was reading about the differences on System 16 just the other day.kevenz wrote:aren't Twin Cobra and Kyukyoku Tiger the exact same game..... that's quite a weird collection :S
Re: Toaplan Shooting Battle 1 questions
One has checkpoints and the other doesn't.
Making Twin Cobra the easier of the two to progress.

Tonight - I test my debug PS2 with this, I promise!

Re: Toaplan Shooting Battle 1 questions
Using ffgrievers work in progress PlayStaion 1 emulator on a ( out of region ) PS Two slim.
Initial testing shows Tiger Heli boots with graphics issue but appears to run at normal speed.
The other two games are selectable but black screen on game start.

Re: Toaplan Shooting Battle 1 questions
I'm pretty sure most of these "debug ps2s" are actually chipped consoles. And i know all those "universal ps1s" are chipped.
I'm willing to believe the debug ps3s are real.

Re: Toaplan Shooting Battle 1 questions
I actually saw a "debug" ps1 at a game store I went to in the Bay Area. The console was an odd green color. I asked the guy if they painted it, and he told me that the debug console came in this color. Honestly, I don't know if I believe him or not, but I thought that was interesting.
Oh, and what happened spadgy?

Re: Toaplan Shooting Battle 1 questions
Yes, there were green debug PS1s, and blue ones.
Anyway, there is really no need to test the game on a debug PS2. It is safe to assume that they have the same kind of PS1 emulation as regular PS2s.
Furthermore, buying a debug PS3 just to get region free PS1 makes no sense (you could probably buy 2 or more regular PS3s from any region for the same price). A homebrew enabled PS3 is so much more practical: The ability to copy your rare and expensive PS1 games to the internal hdd and not having to disc-juggle anymore is invaluable.

Re: Toaplan Shooting Battle 1 questions
Has anyone ever tried this game on a PSOne? My US SCPH-101 behaves exactly as the PS2 is described. Freezes at the Now Loading screen of Twin Cobra and K-Tiger. Tiger Heli appears fine. I am using an original with a swap-disc (some cloner disc, version 2?).
Re: Toaplan Shooting Battle 1 questions
I've played it on a stock NTSCJ PSOne, didn't have any issues. All three games booted and ran without problems. It seems this particular disc really doesn't like to leave its native system/region.
