We can make any boring conversation sound real exciting if we just use generic orchestral movie soundtrack music to it.

fadabum fadabum BADALABABUM cha CHA JHAN CHAAAAAAN!
"I'm going to the store."
dalaummm bummm BAM BAM BAM!
"Please buy some eggs, since we're out."
BADALAM BUH BUH BAAAAAAAAM!
"Yes. And I won't forget the milk, either. Can't have Count Chocula cereal without it."

Yes, I think most people have read some of her work. I'm sure a few people here went to college for more than a day.

Um, no, I don't think they do Rand in college.

The orchestrical music is all like,

fadabum fadabum BADALABABUM cha CHA JHAN CHAAAAAAN!
"Uh, I like making money n stuff."
dalaummm bummm BAM BAM BAM!
"Uh, who's John Gault?"
BADALAM BAAAAAAAAM!
"I wanna make a train!"

Holy crap, the dialogue is so extremely boring and they make it out to be so riveting and suspenseful. OK, so the plot is: Some guy and a chick want to make a train. Holy crap, that's IT?

Pardon the necro-bump, but I couldn't help getting a chuckle out of this.

The thing I don't get about Rand fans:

The character of John Galt invents an electric generator that collects static electricity from the air (sci fi suspension of belief for the moment here, folks). The company he works for and the powers that be in the bureaucracy thwart his attempts to mass produce the invention because the older style generators they've been making for years "work just fine" and they raise all kinds of doubts about the reliability of his new generator.

So Galt, in the ultimate act of taking his ball and going home, retreats to the mountains and invites all of the richest 1% to join him, and creates a paradise sustained by a gigantic Galt generator.

Now this Galt generator, a device that harnesses ambient energy from the surrounding environment, attacked by competition manufacturing older technology with a PR campaign aimed at its reliability, doesn't that sound just like solar power?

Why is solar power inextricably associated with tie-dyed hippies and not wrinkly old Greenspan types?

You got it wrong - or did they fuck up the story in the movie?

<spoilers> There was no such smear campaign, because no one knew Galt's motor existed. It was still a prototype when Jed Starnes died and his commie children took over. Galt quit the job immediately, and left the motor behind. But nothing was done with it: the only other person who knew about it soon joined Galt's strike, anyone smart enough to possibly figure it out also left, and the company soon went bankrupt. </spoilers>
