How long does it take you all to clear a game?
How long does it take you all to clear a game?
I know that some players are very gifted and will probably plough through a game on normal settings in an evening or something, whereas I am more of a plodder and have to play and play and play to make progress through a game. Even then I'll have nights where I just can't match the performance of previous evenings.... So what'#s the average? Do you all expoect to finish a game in a week? 2 Weeks? Month? Keep coming back over a long time?
Just curious...

Re: How long...
It's more about memorizing patterns instead of just trying random stuff on every credit. I usually spend two or three hours on memorizing stuff on various levels, then practice levels individually untill I know most of them pretty well. Then I start playing for srs bsns.
Re: How long...
Took me about a week to 1CC Deathsmiles, but that is one of the easier games.
I honestly don't manage to clear most games, but I believe I will someday.

37 hours to loop ketsui
Re: How long...
Cave games: 2-4 weeks for the easier ones, 6-12 months for the harder ones.
Raizing games: 2-4 years
Psikyo games: basically never
In all seriousness though, kinda depends on the game, don't ya think!?
Deathsmiles on rank-1 might take 2 or 3 tries. Pink Sweets might take 20-30,000 tries... (even then you're unlikely to clear Stage-5).

Re: How long...
Really varies quite a bit. MushiFut BL Orig took 3 or 4 days I think? Death Smiles was about the same. Ddp took me several years to 1CC (I made a thread about it when it happened a couple months ago, actually) so that was a big deal for me. Don't know exactly what my play time would have been, and I wasn't using savestates at all until right before I got the clear. Kingdom Grand Prix took maybe 5 or 6 hours to get into the loop
Batrider Normal was my first 1CC....I can't remember exactly how long it took, under a year probably. Bakraid Normal didn't require much effort at all, but with both of those it's debatable whether they should even really count as clears at all.
Been working on DOJ for the past couple weeks, dunno how long that will take. I've hit the final stage once so far. I expect DFK to take a couple days to C-Strong 1CC once it arrives. I have a few games partially worked out that I need to go back and try to finish, like MMP and RF2. Garegga and Batrider are constantly ongoing endeavors, maybe 4 years or so on Batrider and 6-9 months of serious play on Garegga.
But yeah I dunno, I feel like I take forever to clear shit

DDP DFK took 2 tries :V C-S shitplay durr
Dragon Blaze took 1.5 months, not including the few weeks of flailing that I did on it about a year earlier. Learning each loop stage after that is taking me 3 weeks minimum. Probably my only serious clear.
Most Touhou clears and DDP took forever since I was shit at the genre back then. DDP took what, 4 months to 1-ALL?
Savestate practice helps immeasurably. DDP I just restarted and never got good at chaining. For DB on the other hand I took the whole fucking game apart, learned to score, and still managed to clear it reasonably quickly.
Got real damn close to clearing Ra.De about a month in. That's an easy enough clear.

Re: How long...
At least one week for an average difficulty game (for shmup standards). However it's rather several months of well-measured playtime (a few hours per week for me) in most cases and more difficult games. I am not too fond of studying a superplay right away and just copying strategies, but rather like to find some own paths and strategies first. I'm also not too good at individual stage practice as I mostly don't have too much fun doing it. I could probably make faster progress if I approached it differently, but it's good as it is.

Re: How long does it take you all to clear a game?
It takes a few weeks for most of my runs. It eventually gets very annoying playing the beginning parts just to make an attempt against the later parts. If I find a game really enjoyable then I may spend a few more weeks after beating it challenging myself to play the higher difficulties, or score attacking before I feel satisfied with the game and move on to something else.
As an extreme case, it took me a whole year and around 1000 credits to beat Gradius III arcade. And there are no continues in Gradius III, each credit is a start from the beginning full playthrough.

Around a few hours or more. I can 1cc an easy game within minutes.
Re: How long does it take you all to clear a game?
clear games in an hour or so in case I'm no Cc-ing.
.... not counting all the practice I do.

Re: How long does it take you all to clear a game?
Obviously depends largely on the game. I normally grind out all the stages in practice before getting serious about 1cc'ing stuff.
I'm usually fairly quick at getting things done when I finally decide to do it but laziness and me often just preferring to practice makes 1cc's take a fairly long time.
When I finally pull myself together to make a clear I usually do it relatively quickly. I think I got Ketsui in two runs, DOJ in four, Mushi BL Maniac in just one and most of the Touhou Lunatic clears I've done have been the result of 2 attempts spread across a year or two. The most being on EoSD which took 4 attempts but that probably also had something to do with me not putting anywhere near the same effort as the other games. Oh and because its harder.

It varies for me, but I have a nasty habit of not trying after I reach a certain point so I can't give a real estimate. Part of that for Raiden Fighters JET was me not being able to easily record the achievement should I get it.

Re: How long does it take you all to clear a game?
If it's Compile, there's roughly a 33% chance I will beat it on my first try.
Everything else is sort of like shooting myself in the crotch and asking, "So, how long will this take to heal?" The odds of me healing fully are slim and it's going to be painful no matter what. Hopefully this analogy makes sense.
I think I beat Mobile Light Force on default settings when I was in eighth grade though, so maybe that was just a grazing wound.

Why is it called the Vic Viper/Warp Rattler? Because the Options trail behind it in a serpent-like fashion, and the iconic front fins are designed to invoke the image of a snake's fangs.
Re: How long does it take you all to clear a game?
I didn't really play shmups a lot, but the longest one probably was B-Wings by DECO. Took me 15 years to actually 1cc it, and that was only once, somewhere last year. Started playing this game on my late granny's Nintendo, didn't see the game for more than a decade, then found it online recently.
This is my signature. It's so unique, nobody else has it.

I should probably try challenging myself more because it rarely takes me more than a week to complete a game.

A clear is a clear, I just wanted to get a 1-ALL out of the way with Strong style before I really dug into the game and started punishing myself. Don't misunderstand, I have no illusions whatsoever about the difficulty/legitimacy of the clear.Paradigm wrote:Power 2-ALL? Well played.

Fair enough.
A Strong 1-ALL doesn't make DFK an easy 1CC, people conveniently tend to forget there's a second loop when they talk about their '1CC'.
But you know how that sounds.Deca wrote:but come on it's friggin DFK >_>

Re: How long does it take you all to clear a game?
Point taken, it's just an easy 1-ALL in cheese mode haha. Playing outside of Strong style at all, or even just trying to score decently in Strong is definitely not what I'd call easy.Paradigm wrote:Fair enough.

Re: How long does it take you all to clear a game?
Cave games are the majority of my clears:
Harder stuff: 1-2 months dedicated play
Easier stuff: 2 - 4 weeks
Approximately.
When I actually manage to focus all attention on clearing a game and not get distracted by other things in the process, I've always been pleasantly surprised at how quickly it can be done.
For Raizing I'd probably add 4 months.
