Here's a quick wrap-up of what we got out on the floor, shmupwise:
-Ikaruga, GC (TATE)
-Shikigame No Shiro II, GC-J (TATE)
-R-Type Final, PS2
-Gradius V, PS2
-Mushihimesama, PS2-J
-Twinkle Star Sprites: La Petite Princess, PS2-J
-R-Type Delta, PSOne
Didn't have time to bring my Dangun Feveron cabinet this year, because I was in Las Vegas at a trade show until the day before the con. It should be there next year, though. Also, there was a vocal minority that may get at least one Dojin station next year. Hope everyone who attended this year had a great time. Maybe we can meet up next year!
Yes, a doujin station would kick ass. I know that some guys were playing Metly Blood on a projection screen Friday night. Also, it was a shame that Mushihime Sama wasn't in TATE format and that Ikaruga was one player only .
One of the most fun games there however was Twinkle Star Sprites. A 2 player vs game is great for this sort of thing where there are lots of challengers. I dominated that game for a good 2-3 hours on Saturday afternoon (was the guy with the spiked hair and the naruto headband). Got in a lot of good matches against some people.
I feel bad telling people it was coming to the US though (recently found out from IC that it isn't). Many people would stop and ask me "what game is this?", "is it import only?" and people seemed to be really interested when I said it was coming to the US as a budget title.
Yeah, somebody told me saturday night that TSS:LPP was coming to the US. I double checked with the guy who brought it and he assured me it was not. I am planning on ordering the import version shortly
Mushihime wasn't in TATE because I ran out of time to move it to a TV that could be rotated. If you noticed, the square Sony TVs (actually pro monitors... nice stuff) had speakers protruding from the sides. It would've had to be moved to a different station. If I have my way next year, all of the shmups will be at one station, and all TATE capable games will be played that way.
I'm pretty pumped about the doujin stuff. I had never seen Melty Blood actually being played. It was most impressive. If I have time between now and the next con, I'll even be setting up one of my cabinets to play some of the doujin stuff. That should be pretty sweet.
The only thing I didn't like was that everyone would credit feed to the end while others are waiting to play. It's kind of irritating to wait 20-25 minutes while watching someone die every few minutes. I guess that's not really a staff thing, though.
I did like all the set ups. The Ikaruga ones were really nice.
