Gah, now I'm asking myself, "Do I need to watch to watch Evangelion again?"

The answer is, "Probably"

the more removed from the original, the less damage it does.

I'm looking at this the same way I am at the Tintin movie--an excuse to publish a luxurious omnibus edition of the original comics.

I'd trust George Lucas over Michael Bay or Uwe Boll.

The live action Ashita no Joe was great. I've heard that the Yamato live action movie was well-done too.

if they ever did a live action version of akira in japan, and assuming that person in question hasn't grown too old, i would want that psycho kid from battle royale to play the part of tetsuo. maybe.

kiriyama was the baddest mofo in the that film. shame he had to die.

The live-action Detroit Metal City was underrated. Turning it into an inspirational chick flick worked far better than it had any right to.

They also got the guy from the live-action Sexy Voice and Robo TV series, another underrated production.

Don't know about the live action Detroit Metal City, but that's kind of the point. I think the manga was, you know, enough for most people. Don't get me wrong, I kinda liked it, but I'm sort of afraid of watching the film.
Oh yes, the live action Gokusen TV (the first season) was rather good, if sanitized in comparison to the manga.

Damn Tim, you know there are quite a few Americans out there who still lives in tents due to this shitty economy, and you're dropping loads on a single game which only last 20 min. Do you think it's fair? How much did you spend this time?

GP mentioned Blade Runner. That's a good example of when I like the grain intact. The BR blueray has all the grain intact and no DNR was used to remove it. That's because they didn't need to. If they had used DNR it would have had no point and it would have stripped fine detail and made all the skin tones waxy.

Aliens is an example where the grain was to a fault and Cameron has been very vocal about being unhappy with the film stock they used. When DNR is used moderately and not just flipped on it can work wonders. The Aliens bluray looks better than the real film stock. They used just enough DNR to bring the grain down but not abolish it.

Wrong thread, dog. This one is for bashing Hollywood.

Nah, the story was a leftover and the animation was awful. The upcoming CG animation by Otomo continues the tradition of dudes moving around and making faces like that, just powered by modern technology. Make room for yet another horse, folks.

I fucked up... thought I fixed that hours ago. That's what I get for making posts via my phone. But it was either that or actually pay attention to "American Werewolf in Paris" while at a friends house. I tried.... and decided to get sucked into my phone instead. Had no idea that movie was THAT horrible, speaking of bashing Hollywood.

I hadn't seen "American Werewolf in London" in years and watched the bluray last year and was surprised, enjoyed it more now than I did when I was younger. But the sequel, not so much... not at all actually. Sorry for the tangent, starting to sound like PC Engine Fan X... no offense PC Engine Fan your one of the more memorable posters on here :)

Gladly. And thanks for reminding me I've yet to watch Freedom. It came out when I moved back to Tokyo and my life was upside down. Now, it's only spun around sideways.
but the story never pulled me in.
Well, it probably wouldn't if you only watched it once. If you watched the Streamline dub, probably not b/c it's hard to relate to a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle. Having some understanding of Japanese culture does help... with just about anything Japanese of course.

"Upcoming"? Freedom was an early HD-DVD tech showpiece, dude! Though I agree that it looks awful.
