Hellfire slowing down when shooting

Post by ptoing »

Tried Hellfire recenly in MAME. Everytime I shoot with a powered up shot (from 3rd power up or so on) the game slows down a bit while the shot is on screen.
Is this normal behaviour it has on the PCB as well or is it MAME being weird here?

I doubt the general version of mame will make a difference, I am using normal commandline mame, latest version.

Perhaps I should have specified that I mean once you pick up a couple of powerups and then shoot.

I just tried Mame++, latest version I could find is 0.119, which I reckon is the one you use.

It has the same slowdown and I doubt that it is my PC, it's plenty powerful enough to emulate this (as well as more hardware intensive stuff) The slowdown is not gamebreaking at all, just a bit odd.

So for now I assume that it is in the PCB as well until someone who actually played the PCB can confirm or not.

Do you see the slowdown there? It becomes quite visible at around 1:40 when he has the triple laser thing.
If you do not see it then it's just you having very insensitive eyes.

But I can see the lag there.

It's just that I don't have it.

I recall that just being a part of how the original pcb was, whenever 2 powered up shots were on screen in my experience, the game would slowdown for a bit.

Try to press F11(?) in MAME and look if the speed always stays at 100%. If it does, everything shall be alright.

Yeh, always stays at 100%. So I guess we can assume this happens in the PCB as well if emulation is correct, and I do not see how weird emulation would cause such a problem.

Also we can assume GradiusuiraD tried to troll me or something. Nice going, jerk.

Nope, explain again why would I want to troll you?

Also mine also stays at 100 percent all the time.

Because you said there was no slowdown (which there is), the one which you said you saw in the video I linked.
And you surely would have that slowdown as well. But you said you don't. So I call bullshit. Anyway, the issue is pretty much resolved anyway.

PCB version of hellfire slows down sometimes when your lasers are equipped to the max. So should mame.
